News: Sturm: Why you shouldn't check out on the 2-6 Cowboys

We won 13 games this year and probably would've won 10-11 games this year had it not been for injuries.

And had we an adequate replacement for Romo, we most likely wouldn't be sitting at 2-6.

You have to have the horses to run the race and this team has proven on more that one occasion that without Romo (or equivalent) we're nonstarters.

I was checked out after week 2. I don't let rooting interest override my brain. There was simply no way the Cowboys could withstand an extended period of time without Romo. Weeden is easily the worst backup QB in the league and the trade for Cassel did nothing to change the situation.

There should be a serious backlash against the owner and his son for this wasted season. Romo is on borrowed time and to throw this season away on such a bad evaluation of talent is inexcusable but very predictable considering the sources.

I hope we lose out. 2-14 is what I root for.

I was going to agree with you until I got to the end and seen you want to lose out. I have to disagree, I can never cheer for my team to lose. That will never change. I do agree with. ..it seems Romo has carried this franchise and on a different team he would have had a ring already maybe more then 1

No with a adequate replacement for Romo we would probably be in the same boat. Unless you found someone as good as Romo.

Romo has also been why this team doesn't have a ring. Don't get me wrong he's a big part of this teams success but let's not act like he hasn't taken part in this mediocrity either.

Which is my point.

We need somebody as good or better than Romo for this organization in this era to much of anything.

Winning five or six of the last eight games is only likely to significantly reduce our ability to acquire such a replacement.

Roma's replacement is not in next years draft.

not checked out yet, but Romo comes back, and unless he plays defense or can coordinate the defense, what does it matter. The defense will still be a problem when he returns.

Romo will have to score more points to offset the defense's lapses

Giants = 5-4
Eagles =4-4

Both still have the Patriots on the schedule. 95% thats another loss for each. Putting them both at at least 5 losses. That means, outside of the Patriots, for them to get to 9-7 the Giants have to go 4-2 in the other games. For the Eagles, they have to go 5-2. I'm don't feel like looking up the tiebreaker possibilities, but 8-8 is easily still enough to be in contention. Just need a win to next week to give Romo a little breathing room.

And dont forget they still play each other witch will be a loss for one of them.

Same here.

We are only guaranteed 16 Cowboys games per year. I'll be damned if, after waiting all off-season, I cheer for them to lose. Just not happening. Especially when we're not even mathematically eliminated.

Those of you who checked out are embarrassing. The Eagles and Giants both still have games to play. They both still have to play the Patriots and still have to play each other the last game of the year. They both cant and wont win out. What happens if Eli would miss several games with an injury just like Romo has? All you ghost would be flying out of the closet claiming you never lost faith......SMH.

Thats false one player can't win a ring by himself. Marino never won a ring guess that's his fault. ....alone

Even when we were 1-15 I cheer to win every game. Real fans stand up

According to Football Outsiders, we have a 3.8% chance of making the playoffs.

That's 1.6 times as high as our chances were of coming back to beat the Rams last year.

That's 3.5 times as high as our chances were of coming back to beat the Giants in Week 1.

That's 7.6 times as high as our chances were of coming back to beat the Bills in 2007.

That's 19 times as high as Michigan State's chances were of coming back to beat Michigan a few weeks ago.

That's 38 times as high as Miami's chances were of coming back to beat Duke a couple of weeks ago.

You get the idea.

Nothing embarrassing about it at all. Neither is continuing to have faith.
I all but checked out after the Giants loss. I pretty much saw the writing on the wall,though I really didn't want to admit it. At least not to myself. Sunday sealed the deal for me. I don't feel the least bit ashamed of feeling that way. Being a fan doesn't always mean having unreasonable expectations. I'll still watch every game. Cheer on every bit of good play I see. And cuss all the bad ones. And if by some kind of miracle like we've never seen before,they do end up getting to the playoffs. I'll be glad to admit that I'm the most shocked person in the country. And won't even think about trying to convince anyone,I knew it was going to happen all along. I'm a damn good liar,but no way I'd be able to pull that off! :D

Because I don't see any franchise QB's in this upcoming draft. Who are you thinking of?

I think we’ll end up picking in the top half of the draft and I think Romo has 2-3 good years left in him (although I very much doubt he start all 32-48 games) so the new QB has time to learn and will probably get an opportunity to play due to Romo missing time.

So give that scenario my top three choices would be Paxton Lynch, Jared Goff or Connor Cook.

With a little seasoning any one of the three could turn out to be what the doctor ordered.
