Which means they are being coached that way

Probably the number 1 issue in QBs with talent that don't make it is that they either dump off the ball too quickly or they hold on to it too long.

Romo once talking about this issue in some depth in an interview. He said one of his keys to getting better was learn how long to hold the ball and that it was a situation dependent issue.

Mhmm, that's why Pittsburgh won 2 games with backup QB's by taking risks. Do your homework
LOL, do my homework. So you just assume that every NFL team's backup QB should be able to light it up and take risks and win some games huh? Oh boy... Pittsburgh looks to have, not one, but two competent QBs., where as Dallas is struggling to find one decent backup QB. Did you stop and think that Cassel is still learning the system and his teammates? I bet you were also calling out Garrett's "vanilla" play calling last year too huh? You have every right to criticize the Cowboy's lack of a backup QB plan, but to expect the Cowboy's offense to be dynamic with a still new backup QB in Cassel is asking quite a lot.

This is pretty much what I expected. There are guys open, but just like Weeden, we're almost instantly taking the easy throw. This time it's with a totally different QB that actually took chances and moved the ball well just a week before.

You'd be really hard pressed to convince me that these guys aren't being told repeatedly not to take any chances unless it's a wide open, easy throw.

Exactly right.

The coaching staff got into his head.

But how do you blame a system that apparently produces plays where guys are breaking open, based on this article and videos? It appears the QB just doesn't understand it well enough or can't read a defense well enough in order to make a split second decision about who is most likely to break open when.

Again. Since when was Romo hitting the number 2 receiver that is supposedly wide open.. Last year everybody was blaming T Will for not getting open.. And before that Miles Austin and before that Roy Williams... And before that
Crayton..

Apparently even Romo had that problem that guys were wide open but couldn't see them..

I keep asking this question, but nobody answers... When did Romo ever throw to Beasley vertically like that?

Maybe those guys that are 'open'are decoys in the routes and defenses know Dallas tendencies of where they are going in their routes... Maybe they are at the end of the progressions as well and so on..

By the time guys like Cassell or Weeden or even Romo look at them, the play would have broken down and the QBs have to escape the pocket..

That being said, Collins may be the closest thing to luck and good fortune for this organization, since us getting Romo that late.

agree with u 250% i mean Good GOD man, this kid is the ****innnn' TRUTH. If he's already basically turned into a dominating bulldozer at G in his ROOKIE fuggin year, can y'all freeeakin' imagine HOW bloody furrkkin ReeeeDICuLouS hes gonn be in 1-2 years from now? I see a guy next year that's a thoroughly FORMIDABLE manchild at Guard and THEN, the next Season, I believe La'ell will literally morph into the maestro of the interior, basically a consummately UNSTOPPABLE mothaTrucka at LG n at that point...Good ***** BYE the rest of the NFL lol...

I remember the two failed runs which Avril blew up behind the LOS. It appeared as though Hanna had no shot to block him as Avril had leverage and seemed to guess right based on Free vacating and he was off to the races. Sturm's post illustrates how this is simply a defensive player beating the scheme.

And Collins again....the kid is special. Pretty encouraging to see Sturm write that Collins has a chance to be the best OG in the league. Collins' game reminds me of Jahri Evans a few years ago when he emerged as a great OG. The power and mobility are similar.

I will say it is somewhat bizarre that Cassel was so liberal with the football 7 days earlier and then in this game, he takes pretty much no risks at all with the ball.

3 INTs that result in a loss to a division rival will do that to you.
