Sturminator's Costa video

We know. We saw it the first time... time after time, after time.

And we also saw improvements along the way. Not enough by a country mile, but he has shown steady improvement.

Several of your selected plays showed Costa being beaten badly, some of them showed blitzes with Costa engaged with his man and a LB or stunt going up the middle, Costa is responsible for one guy, and that guy is a 3-4 NT type often enough- why he is one on one with him is beyond me- I wish other teams would be considerate enough to leave Rat one on one.

Smith and Free will swap sides, the other three spots are up for grabs. Not sure why Costa, the youngest and least experienced of the bunch, and the one we could expect to struggle the most, gets singled out I don't know. Many of your selected plays, Costa was just one of the guys getting beaten,

This o-line is still the number one weakness, and serves as an anchor to hold the entire offense back. I say average at best, others like to say "mediocre" at best- neither is nearly good enough. I hope next season we can honestly say the o-line is better than average, or even good by NFL standards.

I can see why some fans prefer Kowalski at center. Costa doesn't even snap the ball well. And Bob Sturm's film strip shows that he doesn't do much more than try to get in the way of a defensive lineman crashing in upon Tony Romo. It is really amazing how well Tony Romo has been able to do, with him there. His softness in the middle explains a lot of the running troubles as well.

At times he's beaten so badly it's almost laughable. Just shoved right to the ground.

This is the not for long league. You recall how long Petitti lasted don't you? Well, he was as poor an open gate as is Costa. Are you paying attention to the hits upon Romo? Wonder still, how come the Cowboys were so slow at starting games this year?

I bet you could put together a video of him dominating someone that would be an hour long. Highlight and lowlight videos are always misleading. No player is perfect, especially a undrafted 2nd year player starting for the first time. Part of the reason our OL has been bad is because the team never let any young guys play and develop. There are very good OL around the league right now that were drafted or originally brought into the league by Dallas only to linger down the depth chart or on the practice squad before being cut in a year. If they let Costa go, 2 years from now he will be the starting center or guard on a very good OL somewhere else. He needs the time to develop and get stronger.

That was brutal.

If he plays like that Sunday night we all will be singing... Turn out the lights, the party's over.

Can anyone tell me why this man is starting for us? Any rational thought as to a possibility there?

I remember at least 5 plays this year where Tyron Smith got owned .. I guess we should replace him in the off-season too.

Just like players can be made to look awesome in highlight videos of their best plays while hiding their bad plays, the opposite can be had given enough time and motivation by someone.

And just for the record, I wouldn't mind some upgrades on the offensive line including at center. I'm just reminding everyone that it is very easy to manipulate when you have easily manipulated people waiting to be told how to think.

Imagine if someone made a highlight video of every time you lost your temper .. would that define you? I'm just saying..

and the GM, Jerry Jones thinks Costa is doing one hell of a job at center...only ranked 31st in the league at the posiiton....Costa needs to be replaced next year..he's nothing more than a backup, kind of like Jerry, nothing more than a backup GM

have you watched any games and bothered to look at the O line, especially the interior?

Costa is going to play a lot for the Cowboys . . . now. Now! I don't know how that works, but I'm glad we've got him. At this juncture, I don't know if anyone has had a better preseason than he's had. I put him right there at the top from my perspective with preseason work and how impressed we've been with him. - Jerry Jones, 8/14/11

Yeah, it's kind of hard to figure out why the team had any faith in him at all.

No way could Gurode be that bad.

And he omitted the bad snaps. That's being pretty charitable. I wonder if Clay Shiver is available ...

There is a major difference in how Smith attacks an opponent and his engagements. He is physical, confrontational, as well as in position to redirect the opponents mass and momentum.

Costa instead, attempts to absorb an opponent's momentum, but also in an upright position. He even badly over extends and stumbles. To be able to bench press 500 pounds seems to be lost on a possible hand pop and low center of gravity for Costa. To be able to see him getting pushed aside by a penetrating opponent, just because it is to the side, and Costa merely trying to absorb a blow really isn't that hard to see. Or to disagree with...

“You should look at this one based upon the facts as you see them. You saw Phil Costa step up and for all practical purposes win the starting job at center. Win it heads up. ... Then you saw the reality of having a significant salary for a backup player. Let’s keep in mind, the experienced offensive line last year got our quarterback knocked out, or was a big part of getting our quarterback knocked out, early on in the season and that really hurt us. Not that we were playing well to begin with. So it’s not that our experience kept us from doing the one thing you really want to do, and that’s get your man or at least get in front of your man. What you’re going to see is a likelihood of more getting in front of your man, less people coming free." - Jerry Jones, 8/27/11.

He's in his own little world.
