Wouldn't playing while pending appeal make the 1-game suspension totally meaningless?

That is typically how it works though, he would be suspended for 1 game once his appeal has been processed. That is why I asked. In this case though it seems they will hear the appeal tomorrow

You are correct. Guys typically play until their appeals are processed. Sometimes the appeals aren't expedited quickly and the guy is out there playing the next game and then has to sit the following one if he loses the appeal.

Do you honestly believe that? The man who has been fined, what, 7 times for player safety violations since entering the league? Who has already been suspended for similarly flagrant and dirty stuff.

You do realize I'm talking about Scandrick right? You have to read the quote right above my comments if you don't know how forums work.

Glad your not the person who decides those things. Suh's history buried him. I am surprised it's only one game.

The quotes above my comments were about Scandrick so my response was about Scandrick.

And you can't tell me Rodgers wasn't playing it up. You would think someone that has been in front of the camera would have put on a better show. Regardless...Rodgers played it up...The ref had no choice but to "protect" the NFL's darling. I don't think the ref wanted to be "that guy" for not protecting one of the leagues marquee players. Who would want to live w/ that wrath?

Sorry i'm missing something here. How is pushing a guy in the back of the leg to get off of you playing it up? how is talking to the ref about why there was no flag playing it up? And the ref didn't do anything because there was no flag. The suspension is being handed down from the league after reviewing the tape, not from the ref because AR (rightfully) questioned why there was no flag....

5/16/13 NBC Sports

Mean Joe Greene, the Hall of Famer who played for the Steelers from 1969 to 1981, told the Detroit Free Press that Suh shouldn’t listen to those who want him to be a kinder, gentler player.

“He is a powerful man,” Greene said of Suh. “Unfortunately for him is that he’s letting some of this notoriety and publicity get in his head a little bit. By that I mean it changes the way he approaches the game, cause if he changes that he’s not Ndamukong anymore. And you need an edge to play in the pit. Anybody that talks about what you shouldn’t do hasn’t been in there. I think you have to play the game the way he does, but not go over the edge. A couple times he went over the edge, and he shouldn’t be afraid of that.”

Greene doesn’t think Suh’s critics understand what it takes to play defensive line in the NFL.

“I know that when the public gets involved and the talking heads get involved and they talk about something they don’t have any idea about — it’s nice and air conditioned where they’re sitting,” Greene said. “So he can’t let other voices dictate how he plays.”

Suh hasn’t responded to Greene’s comments, but I imagine that once he hears what Greene said about him, he’ll say, “Thanks, Mean Joe.”

1. its bad sportsmanship. Some of the meanest toughest DL in the league throughout its history, never pulled something like this. so the position can be played at a high level without this "edge" or "BS" is what i call it. Apparently Mean Joe and Suh. cant.do that. they lack the internal fortitude. they are incapable of playing tough, "vicious" football at a high level without becoming a foul , low, cheap shot kind of player.

2. Mean Joe played in a different era....with different norms. his time has long been over.

3. i take issue with him claiming "people just don't understand unless they have played the position". People are able to think and relate tp things they aren't directly involved with or have direct experience with. . some of the best draft people never coached or played. some of the best coaches never played the game. people who dont have kids can understand its hard to raise them, and that kids shouldn't be lying stealing and cheating . I don't need to be a parent to understand all that.

no, Joe is just an old man who has a skewed and , wrong. opinion about this issue.

hey Joe, have a coke and a smile and just watch the games...like the rest of us.

It's a one game season at this point, there can't be any deferral because there might not be a next game. The appeal has to be heard in time for the Lions to game plan for Suh's potential absence.

The league might also want to punish a team that seems to foster a cheap shot mentality. A fine wouldn't suffice, in that case.

It's not clear cut if it was intentional. I say it's overturned on appeal tomorrow or Wednesday.

By that logic no player should ever be suspended. No one has every died during an NFL game. Or maybe everyone should be suspended for just playing the sport because even though no one has died during an NFL game it is a violent sport.

Thank you. I get tired of the old "nobody died" argument.

If you read the suspension notice, you'll see that they have removed any reference to intent. It was basically characterized as a reckless act, for which there is no defense. He's done.

Apparently it was intentional and if it wasn't he would've not been suspended simple as that and as far an appeal goes he won't win because of history with offenses over his tenure in the NFL.

Rodgers was rolling around on the ground like he was dieing.....Amazingly 3 minutes later he was fine. It was all an act to get Suh thrown out of the game.
