So the difference between a 4.5 and a 4.6 is about 4.5 feet. The difference between a 4.27 and 4.33, over 40 yards, is less than 2.5 feet. Not a big difference at all.
*this is based on something I saw on TV last year, leading up to the combine so I haven't done the math on it myself. I'll check it later today.
a 4.3 40 is 9.30 m/s
a 4.4 40 is 9.09 m/s
a 4.5 40 is 8.89 m/s
a 4.6 40 is 8.70 m/s
In 4.3 seconds a
4.3 travels 40.00m
4.4 travels 39.09m
4.5 travels 38.23m
4.6 travels 37.41m
Its not linear but its pretty darn close .91m, .86m, .82m splits respectively. The gaps will widen proportionally but the ratio is pretty close to 1. It looks like decent rule of thumb would be a .8m difference between the various 40 times and a defender can tackle someone if they are within a yard.
Take from that what you will.
