Twitter: Super Bowl Teams Who Continually Draft OL In The 1st Round.

my point wasn't don't value the OL. my point is you don't spend a top 12 pick on a guard. right now we have 3 first round OL men on the team....that's 3 premium picks. two of which are guards.

now, they spent 23M on trey smith. who was a 6th round pick. so the question is not spending. the question is which draft pick capital are you going to use to find the players to build your team.

and you just proved my point for me. so I appreciate it....picks in 2nd round. not top 15......

and btw, larry Allen. the best guard ever was a 2nd round pick.
Your point is absolutely correct.
Positional value and immediate impact in this case is the issue and that of need as well.
Kenneth Grant should have been the pick for these reasons.
Rico Dowdle did just fine running behind Hoffman.
The Booker impact and need is negligible.
The need was a DT1 not an OG.

Inability to stop the run is why this team loses games.
Period.

I'm of the opinion none of it matters without a new QB1
Dak ain't it.
Yeah,
But people get mad here when you go big picture and use Dak or Jerry too much.
When improving those 2 positions would go an awful long way at achieving actual onfield success.

Such a nice dose of reality knowing neither is going anywhere.

Cowboys!

I was happy with Hoffman and Bass fighting it out for the RG spot. Didn't think we needed to add 2 more Guards, especially with a 1st round pick.

Nate Newton said about the 90's offensive line..."Before Emmitt came, I was just a normal fat guy," the left guard said. "Now I'm a fat guy who goes to the Pro Bowl."

Play makers make your line even better.

I would have gone DT, WR or RB in the 1st.

Guess it's all water under the bridge now, but this FO sucks.

Eric Williams 3rd round draft pick
Mark Tuinei. Undrafted
Nate Newton. Undrafted
Mark Stepnoski 3rd round pick
Larry Allen 2nd round pick
Kevin Googan 8th round pick

The differance is these guys were blocking for Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith
This ^^^^^

oh, I am 100% in agreement with you. but do you spend a premium pick on a guard, the least important position on the OL? a LT, heck yes. but guard? I don't think so. how many of the eagles OL men were drafted in the top 15? yet as you said, they have a great OL and Barkley did great. if you are bad at player evaluation and drafting, then you spend your high picks on non-premium positions because you are afraid to miss. we have three 1st round picks on the OL. THREE!!!!! and two of them are guards!!!!

so how many of the past 10 superbowl teams have three 1st round OL men on their team. no, lets make that the past 15!

and the problem you speak of is, we are not very good in talent evaluation and managing draft and player personnel on the TEAM.
I agree with you the FO has been the constant issue with this team for the past 30 years. Jimmy was able to compensate and brought some success but there was no cap there and we went after players in free agency. I agree especially with your last statement, that is why we had Lance and now have Mingo on our team.

You’ve got to get your QB before you focus on anything else.

And by get your QB I mean one that is skilled and talented, not paid well.
There are very few QBs in history that can compensate for a weak O line. Either you have to be a runner or an accurate passer with quick decision making. I would say maybe Rodgers in his prime and Tom Brady could still find success behind a weak line, but most of them would crumble. At the end of the day, it is a team sport and you have to shore up both the trenches and skill positions. A QB alone cannot win in this day and age. Mahomes is better than Hurts, but Hurts had a better team around him.

we can just agree to disagree. I take a 25-35 defensive player that would allow the defense to be better over all. than a guard, who can't have the same impact for us to score another 10+ points a game we need because the defense sucks. I mean this defense really sucks.

SJ did mention there was trade offer on the table from Texans, but points value didn't add up. I would have still taken it.
Exactly,
Grant was the perfect immediate impact AND need player.
He fulfilled BOTH those requirements.

He immediately replaces bust Mazi and the whole complexion of the defense changes.
This ain't a hard concept.
Booker supposedly will replace Hoffman.
Big deal.

So try to give Dak a line like he had his first 6ish years and expect different results?

When do we take the most important position in sports seriously?

Again, by taking it seriously I am meaning focusing on talent and skill, not how much they’re paid.
