I'm not so sure that we don't keep "Pepper" and release Carson. Carson is not and really never has been 'all that' and Johnson is younger and making a name for himself. BP moved him from DE because we have a glut of DE's but are short of DT's and Johnson has still been showing up. Cheese or no cheese Johnson has game and a lot of upside while Carson has bad knees.

As for Tyson Thompson I'm afraid you might be right. The kid is a keeper but I just don't see us keeping 4 RB's especially since Thompson has not been tearing it up on KO returns. I hate to see it because there is no way that he clears waivers or lasts on the PS for very long; he will be on everyone's short list for RB help.

BP is obsessed with special teams and thats why crowder makes it.

It is to early to tell on Crowder.

If his next two performances are like last nights he very well might be cut.

But if he puts up more performances like he did against AZ I think he makes the team.

Parcells appears to be a big believer in game changing moments (i.e. turnovers). And Crowder appears to be a deliverer of those types of moments.

Was Thomas Johnson hurt last night? I saw him go down for a bit and nothing was ever mentioned by Madden or Micheals. They were too busy to actually call the game. It'd be nice if we could stash TJ on IR with one of those life-threatening toe injuries.

Also, where has Terrence Copper been? His mention in this thread is the first time I've read his name in a month at least.

Surprise cuts: Al Singleton; Quincy Morgan; Lynn Scott (finally) - not too many. We aren't that deep.

Some fairly believeable choices all in all, but I don't agree completely.

Not a surprise to everyone, but I think many on this board will be surprised, probably because we have too many favorites, drink too much kool-aide, and eat too much of the cheese.

Predictions:

Quincy Morgan...cut.
I guessed at this back a few months ago. I figured that if he were to slide out of the 3 spot, he'd slide right off the team. So yeah, I'll go with that one.
Tom Crowder also cut...no way to justify keeping him.
Well, he's just one of those guys who's up for the 5th WR spot (and we may only keep five). I think he stands as good a chance as Merrit or Rector.

Thomas Johnson...cut...probably stashed on P.S. (don't eat the cheese)
Sorry, but with Ferguson's situation, have to keep Carson
I don't know, he's made alot of noise. If I had to guess right now, I'da agree though.
Keith O'Neil...cut.

Izell Reese...cut.
Yup, O'niell is likely finished here. and Resse is an easy cut.
Tyson Thompson...cut...stashed on P.S. (don't eat the cheese)
munch much munch. The hype machine has made it way too likely that we'd lose him. I think we keep 4 RBs AND a FB this year (yikes)
Tyson Walter...cut.

Jeff Robinson...cut...Condo makes team.
Both those guys make it.
***************************************

Pierce and Ryan both make the team.

Pettitti and Tucker both make the team.

Merritt and Copper both make the team.

I think one or the other netween Pierce and Ryan make it, the othe goes to the PS. I agree on Pettiti and Tucker, Copper our #4 and as far as Merrit goes, see above.

all in all not bad though.

I agree that Condo has to snap like he did last night from here on out to make the team, but I don't think goalline will have much to do with it...if we carry all the TE's I think we'll carry, Robinson won't be in the game on short yardage anyway.

Robinsons caught 3 passes in Dallas, All 3 on the 1 and all 3 were TDs. Hes another option in inside the 3 offense. Though pple will notice him now, but that should open up another option for us somewhere else. To beat out Robinson, Condo will have to be a threat somewhere other then DSing.

I thought Robinson was an awesome deep snapper. Do we pay him too much to be a perfect deep snapper. Besides being automatic snapping the ball, he is always near the ball on coverage (punt). What an asset to special teams.

Nope, Reese easily makes the team, he is the ONLY FS we have with ability to cover deep & the speed to make plays...
Scott is cut...

Jack I agree with you about Carson...I would rather keep the young guy "Pepper" with the good wheels...

Oneil is gone easy on that one...
BZ: You must be BLIND if you think A-Train is as slow as Eddie...

He is a keeper, more so then ever with Barber not being able to hold onto the football...

That also helped TT chances...

I can't see cutting Robinson for Condo when Condo is average at snapping...Why get worse at the position just to save money?

Morgan is hurt, he has a shoulder that needs surgery, he is a tough guy, one we will be needing before the year is out...

To me its Copper who is cut, he just doesn't do anything for me...

I don't think we can afford to keep Crowder with so much young talent on the Dline...

Crowder could be relased and resigned to the PS Thompson couldn't, Ratliff couldn't and Pepper couldn't...

I didn't get to see any of the Arizona game, but I have seen Condo his whole career at Maryland as a long snapper, and he is rarely off target. What you saw of him in the game last night is more of what he is capable of, rather than what I read on here from the Arizona game. If that was me, in my first game as a pro and trying to make the team, who knows where that ball would have gone. :D

And yes, I am a little biased since I am a Maryland fan, but the kid is good, and he will be snapping for a long time in the NFL, either in Dallas or elsewhere (I'd just rather it be in Dallas).

The only one of those I would call a surprise cut would be Quincy Morgan. For me, I'll have Leo Carson as a surprise cut. Even though it might not be a great idea, I could see it happening.

From what I saw, Thomas plodded like Eddie George.

I disagree. In fact, I don't even think that is physically possible. :D

wm...I would ordinarly agree with you about Tyson Thompson getting cut and subsequently being stashed on the practice squad, but I think there's been too much positive national press from ESPN and other media outlets about him.

Forget the cheese for a minute...I think Bill likes the guy and doesn't want to gamble losing him like he did Dantzler. I think not playing him last night was deliberate attempt to lower his profile. JMO.
The difference, of course, being that Dantzler didn't amount to anything and is about be cut again.

I love what I've seen and read about Thompson...I hope he makes it, but the bottom line is that you have two young, better quality players in JJ and MB3 already on the roster...unless Thompson can actually make a contribution, I just don't see the point in keeping him.

You have to remember that any team who even likes Thompson's potential would have to be sticking him on their roster for the future too...it's just hard to do that these days...they'll have to cut another guy they were going to keep to sign Thompson off waivers...why would any team do that? Usually this late in the game, last cuts, you're not signing guys from other teams' cuts to your 53 man roster unless they're going to be a #1 or #2 and contribute.

Unless there were another situation like Miami found themselves in last year, I feel certain Thompson would pass through waivers...who's going to take him the week before the season starts and expect to teach him their offense and get anything out of him? Our situation is very much like any other team that would consider him...if he can't play special teams, he just can't sit around and eat up a spot on the roster...just my opinion of course.

The difference between guys like Scott and Singleton vs. the guys I see getting cut is that if Singleton and Scott don't start, they're definitely backups with experience and they both move directly to most of the special teams.

nice take all around....I haven't heard anything about Crowder in the 5th WR slot...last night the announcers were saying that the problem with Crowder is that the Cowboys can't find a position for him...that, like Woody Dantzler, he doesn't really have a position.

If he's a top 5 WR, then it's a no brainer...you keep him for Special TEams...but if he has no position, even though BP emphasizes the specialties, you just can't keep a guy only for that in this day and age.

I totally see where you are coming from here. Unfortunately, I think there are some teams thin at RB that might take a chance on him. If the Bears don't get Benson signed, do they take him for insurance behind Thomas Jones and Adrian Peterson?

Maybe I'm making the guy out to be better than he really is. But if you believe all the media hype, I don't see him clearing waivers.

Robinson is arguably the best long snapper in football
very true...but there's a reason we keep bringing in long snappers every camp, and it's not because we're afraid his arm will get tired...lol. It was the same way with Hellestrae before him. The Cowboys would love to find a young, inexpensive replacement, but if they don't find the guy, Robinson stays.

Last week Parcells surprised everyone by getting rid of 6 players; 4 cut, 1 traded and 1 to IR. I think he will cut another 6 players Wed/Thurs and put Cundiff on IR, leaving the remaining 7 cuts for Aug 30. Here's who I would cut immediately:
1. WR Jamaica Rector 5. LB Reggie Love (maybe PS)
2. S Woody Dantzler 6. Keith O'Neil
3. CS Lenny Williams
4. RB Keylon Kincade

If you have to cut TT you wait till the last possible time, when the other teams are trimming players they too would like to be keeping, hope no one loses their RB forthe Season and hope he makes it through waivers.

I personally thought we didn't see him last night because he had already proven his ability to run for BP, SPecial Teams is his hope now he has to show up on returns a little more. I like him I just don't know how he fits unless MB3's butter fingers stay awhile.
