I think you just answered your own question. I do not know what the other 31 teams RB situations are but if even one of them finds that they are just not happy with their RB situation Thompson could be gone. Like I said before he will be on everyone's short list.wayne_motley said:You have to remember that any team who even likes Thompson's potential would have to be sticking him on their roster for the future too...it's just hard to do that these days...they'll have to cut another guy they were going to keep to sign Thompson off waivers...why would any team do that? Usually this late in the game, last cuts, you're not signing guys from other teams' cuts to your 53 man roster unless they're going to be a #1 or #2 and contribute.
Unless there were another situation like Miami found themselves in last year, I feel certain Thompson would pass through waivers...who's going to take him the week before the season starts and expect to teach him their offense and get anything out of him? Our situation is very much like any other team that would consider him...if he can't play special teams, he just can't sit around and eat up a spot on the roster...just my opinion of course.
BTW our situation is just the OPPOSITE of any other team that would consider him. We have a Very promising young starter in Julius, a veteran change of pace back in A-Train and another promising young RB to back them up in MBIII. A team that would consider taking Thompson would be us LAST year; the starter injured and the backup sucking mud and the running game in the toilet. That is the team that will pluck Thompson off our PS in a heartbeat.
If we try to stash Thompson we lose him 10 to 1 odds. The only way out is if BP sees enough ST production to keep him or if he decides that either A-Train or MBIII has less upside (I wouldn't hold my breath on that one). Too bad IMO.
