Say FA is over and we have signed Peterson. We are in BPA mode, the draft rolls around and the suprise pick for the Cowboys at 18 is LENDALE WHITE RB USC. What will you think?

Personally, I think he might be the best back coming out this year. I doubt he lasts till 18.

A surprise would be the Cowboys taking a QB to me.

Would consider taking White but I think we would be more likely that we would trade down at this point.

I think Lendale White is overrated and will be a bust.

I posted that on another board.

I have that feeling too, that if he's there, he's the choice.

The Cowboys don't have a power back, and a power back is something Parcells loves, especially when he gets a huge lead.

I know we don't need another running back, but I wouldn't be put off by that selection at all.

However, with the Pats at #21 and the Broncos rumored to like White, I think a deal down is possible.

With Barber proving himself last season I don't see any reason why Dallas would take White with Barber and JJ here already.
Dallas has had a solid free agency period with a few more moves to go but still needs the draft to bring in a young nose tackle, an O-lineman, a linebacker and a young WR.
At some point you could see us in the draft doing the "best athlete available" angle and grab an RB, perhaps on day 2 but we have too many needs to address if we are going to make a deep playoff run this year to grab an RB in round 1.

I think I mentioned this possibility before on the Draft Zone a while back. It's a real possibility, now that someone is in place for every urgent need other than kicker.

Another possibility is if LenDale White falls to 18, we draft and trade him. I know Hostile has talked about a trade with Indy; their #1 and #2 have about the same trade value as our #1. From their #1, there are good values in NT candidates, and OL candidates. Q would then be whether the #2 pick gathered would be of enough additional value to be worth it. Would a Mark Anderson, say, picked with Indy's #2 be that much more value to this team?

David.

I thought the same thing with TO as well.
Most would agree we were the leading candidate to get TO. The complete opposite is true with White.

I'd be thinking we just wasted a 1st round pick on a situational back when were 2 deep already at the position. I'd also be thinking Parcells would never let him on the field because he struggles catching the ball and can't block to save his life and we all know how far that will get you with Bill. Yeah, so basically I would be pretty ticked off.

I watched some of the first eagle game and Julius could have easily been over 1,000 if he was allowed to finish that game. He hurt his ankle a little bit and Parcells let Thompson finish all the fourth and I think some of the third qtr.

We have been missing a powerback? The last powerback we had was........Herschel Walker. I know Eddie George wanted to be a powerback but that didn't quite work out did it.

I personally agree w/a few other posters in saying that I would be surprised if L. White was drafted by the Boys considering they have 3 good options at RB. The Boys, even in a successful FA period, have other needs besides a powerback especially in the first round. I think if L. White does fall that far, and I think he could with his poor showing, that the Boys will trade out of the spot or pick the BPA that fulfills their needs (ie. OL, WR,S, OLB). Like someone else said, the only other surprise pick would be a QB at 18 and that would only be if Cutler fell imo.

By the way, I personally would consider JJ a 1000 yard back considering the injuries he has had. It isn't so much that he hasn't actually reached 1000 yards in a season, but that you know he would have if he wasn't injured or if we didn't have two other very good rbs. I think this year, he will definitely hit 1000 yards and I could also see Barber come pretty close too (ala Denver's running game).

I guess I don't understand the importance of that.
