I think the surprise pick will F. Pope TE/UGA..The guy is a freak and I dont think Parcells can pass him up, he knows he can get OL/FS in rds 2/3..

Say FA is over and we have signed Peterson. We are in BPA mode, the draft rolls around and the suprise pick for the Cowboys at 18 is LENDALE WHITE RB USC. What will you think?

i will be thinking that a couple of shop owners in my local mall will have a good day as i break a few things around the house.

OR

i will be thinking that they better have some strong medicines in the emergency room of my local hospital on my way there as i continue to throw up uncontrollably.

A surprise would be the Cowboys taking a QB to me.

for once we agree, that would be a surprise because we dont need one and they wont.

what would also be a surprise would be the skins having any draft picks left and if they do (despite their best efforts) actually making a sensible choice for once:laugh1::laugh1:.

I agree. And most drafts have Tye Hill falling in our range which would be very good value even though CB is not a pressing need for next season.

NDawg44 - I would really HATE to see that happen. I want to continue to solidify our Defense and would like to draft defense w/ our 1st rounder. We already have JJ & MB3 so I's rather not address the RB position until the late rounds if we had to.....

VY being available at #18 would surprise me and would love to see it happen!!! I'd like to see Jerry and Bill "discuss" who to pick before Jerry overules Bill once again and takes VY..... :)

I was going by my own opinion. I don't need a draft site to form my opinions. I form my opinions by watching the players perform on the field.
which season did you watch exactly?

If we need a power back, why not save the 1st-rounder for a bigger area of need and sign FA's Jonathon Wells or the slightly eccentric Najeh Davenport? They stand at 6'1", 252 lbs. and 6'1", 247 lbs. respectively, are relatively young, and have proven they are capable of carrying the ball in more than short-yardage/goal-line situations if something happened to J. Jones and Barber. Ron Dayne might be the next best FA big back out there.

Ron Dayne re-signed with the Broncos.

I don't think Barber has any special qualities that will wow you and JJ hasn't showed that he can play an entire season but he can wow you. So I don't adding him would be that much of a stretch.

Dude, what are you talking about Barber showed a real nack for blitz pick up as well as short yardage gains, who were you watching. And for the record I consider Jones a 1000 yrd rusher talent wise, maybe even closer to 1500 yds when he has a complete season injury free. We are set at RB, that would be a waste of a pick.

Uh those aren't special qualities. Hambrick was good at picking up the blitz and short yardage as well.

Hopefully Jones will finally complete a season. What good is 1500 yard talent when you can't even stay healthy enough to gain 1,000 yards heck even Fragile Fred Taylor has done that a time or two.

But Nate the bottom line is that when it comes to "needs" RB is pretty far down on the list.

I'd like a chance to see what Jones, Barber and Thompson can do with even an "average" offensive line/blocking TE/fullback in front of them.

I have no interest in throwing Jones and Barber under the bus at this point.

Selecting a RB in the first round smacks of what a team like the Raiders would do.

MW is right...there is nothing wrong with the RB's we have...the problem was clearly the OL and two moves (so far) have been used to address it...Jones looks like a guy who could be a 1500 yd a yr back with a decent OL...Barber could easily be a 1200 yd a yr back as well if he had all the PT

there is such a thing as overkill...when you have glaring holes elsewhere and you have two good RB's, you dont use your 1st rd pick (and cap space) on ANOTHER RB

And I think one more high round pick (2nd or 3rd) could be spent on the OL IF Larry Allen is cut.

I totally agree...they need a couple of good OL prospects here

but I'm just saying hypothetically if he was Irelands BPA rather than taking someone for need. Maybe not the Raiders but the Bills and Saints have and it worked out alright for them by going BPA. Ricky Williams and Duece McAllister and Travis Henry and Willis McGahee

I agree I don't think it will happen because we won't be in BPA mode. With Parcells short term status our draft will be need based. I'm just pointing out our guys "look" like they could be decent backs but neither one has done it yet.

But T. Henry was very unhappy with his carries once McGahee came on board so BUF had to trade him. I'd rather have a set hierarchy where every RB knows his role and the situations he'll be on the field in unless something happens to the guy ahead of him.
