Surprise Pick at 18

I guess I don't understand the importance of that.

Especially if we are winning games and have an effective running game. Who wouldn't mind have three rbs recording 999 yards in a year? :) Not to mention, it is harder to defend two effective rbs, the just one that teams can focus on. Gives the opposition NO break!

I hope that is the case that JJ can stay healthy and finally give us a good back. Some say 1,000 yard season is an overrated statistic but we haven't even had a back meet that statistic in 4 seasons.

The Cowboys aren't running the wishbone here. They already have two good backs and there are needs elsewhere. My bet is that if Bunkley is still around they grab him at #18.

considering how fragile JJ is, if he's there, that'd be a value pick

Say FA is over and we have signed Peterson. We are in BPA mode, the draft rolls around and the suprise pick for the Cowboys at 18 is LENDALE WHITE RB USC. What will you think?

I think White is a pretty good player, but he's not one of the top 20 players in the draft so he wouldn't be the BPA.

I think Lendale White will have a bigger impact than Reggie Bush next year. I don't think Barber has any special qualities that will wow you and JJ hasn't showed that he can play an entire season but he can wow you. So I don't adding him would be that much of a stretch.

Are people forgetting we have Marion Barber on the team?

He was EXCELLENT in short yardage and goalline situations last year (I can think of one short yardage play that he screwed up, and it was early in the season).

We don't need White and we won't draft White.

Our problem last year on offense wasn't the fact that we didn't have a power back, but the fact that the Ol was dismal and that outside of Glenn, we had receivers that no D coordinators lost sleep over.

This is one of those instances where the BPA makes very little sense (that is if White is the BPA on the board).

Also, if we p/u White, I'm not sure if BP would go w/ 4 tailbacks. That would make Thompson the odd man out. I would hate to give up on a kid w/ so much natural ability.

I'm not opposed to picking up a powerback, but it would have to be a bulldozing FB-type that can be had in the latter rds. Polite is OK for now, but we can definitely use an upgrade at FB.

I am also skeptical about Reggie Bush an his smallish frame, but then again, I remember what an impact TB's rb (forgot his name) was to them last year and they were saying all the same things about him prior to the draft. So, that will just be one of those wait and see type situations.

And L. White MIGHT have a greater impact depending on what team he goes to. Of course, if he is on the bench behind a star RB, then he won't make much of an impact or a similiar impact to the backup rbs drafted for the Giants and Eagles. He sure didn't start things out right though coming in to the pro day or combine out of shape and lackadaisical. With that attitude, it sure won't open up BP eyes in wanting him on the team.

Nevertheless, again, there are more pressing issues then needing a rb in the first round. Again, OL, FS, OLB, and WR are more pressing then a rb.

Yes, JJ has the Wow factor and Barber may not to some, but they both get the job done in scoring when they need to. I don't need a wow factor if you are an effective rb. And don't forget Thompson who is also an exceptional rb talent.

My thoughts exactly.

If BP took Lendale White with the 18th pick, he better have a trade for Juluis Jones done. Either a young linebacker like Odell Thurman or a 2nd round pick. Having Jones and White would be overkill.

I'd be one p!$$3d fan if they traded a young proven back for someone who hasn't proven a thing yet in the league. He could be the next Blair Thomas or Jarrod Bunch for all we know.

Dude Jones hasn't proven anything either. He proved that he is really fast, but he can't stay healthy.

So Jones hasn't proven anything. Barber isn't anything special and hasn't proven anything. Yet, some people here want White, a player who has never played a down in the NFL. So I'm guessing, that means he has proven something in the NFL, so he will easily get that 1,000+ yds. Right?
