This shouldn't surprise anyone. He hasn't practiced with the team, isn't in game shape and isn't exactly a RKG. You can't just walk in and get snaps.

Sucks because he's a talented player, but he's also replaceable.

He is one of Jerry's Kidz now.....don't count anything out......Jerry has mixed notions of loyalty, family and second chances into some weird nostalgic mutation.......he can't just cut guys like McClain, DMC, Brent, Randle, Hayden, Free......etc

Those are odd inclusions. Free has been a serviceable RT for years now, and Hayden was a minimum wager that Marinelli liked. DMC was solid for how little he got paid also. Brent he just wanted to help get his life in order rather than throw away in the trash, and he gave up on Randle when the player proved he didn't care about football.

I'd love to have a manager/owner/whatever like JJ

Your point is very valid. I guess there is an upside to JJ's way of doing business in that nobody, not even the other teams in the league, ever know what to expect from him.

Let him come back to the facility and bust his tail in practice for a few weeks and show the commitment that he's claiming he now has. Talk is cheap. And actions speak louder than words.
I wonder how dedicated to returning to the team he would be if our record were 3-6, or something along those lines?

At times it seems like Garrett is in charge (witness Dak retaining his job)....then there are times like this...where we are thinking about allowing Rolondo McClain back on a team that is 8-1...and I realize that Jerry is STILL the primary shot caller!!!!
I will probably start an argument with this, though that is certainly not my intent, but JJ is the GM and does, indeed, call the shots on personnel acquisition, while JG is the coach and makes the decisions on how to utilize those players. Two different entities. Ideally (and I think they do this, for the most part) the two work in concert to maximize the opportunity for success. We're not likely to ever know the inner workings of any of this, so it's kind of pointless to debate, though.

I am sure they're going to make room for him because of the talent he's shown when he's available. This will give them some flexibility to move the linebackers around a little bit. Maybe keep Lee from taking as much punishment in the middle and such.

I don't know. I personally would be done with this guy because he's proven more times over than needs to be remembered that he is not reliable.

Here are more details, have fun...

He is expected to remain on the reserve/did not report list.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2016/11/17/thursday-buzz-jamaal-charles/94030396/

He’s in shape. Rolando is really somebody who helped us when he was here, but I really don’t want to get into when or if he might be joining us. I’ve communicated with him several times in the offseason and talked to him on the phone. Yes, he does want to play, but there is more detail that I’m not going to get into right now.”

suspect RKG discussions are ongoing...

I see, so allowing a totally team-first guy like Romo to compete would upset the chemistry of the team, but bringing in a Purple Drank drinking linebacker, who has consistently shown that he is NOT a team-first guy wouldn't hurt a thing. Okay. See, this is the type of ridiculous logic that I'm talking about. You folks really need to get your critical-thinking skills in order.

You are the one who injected Romo into the conversation, not him. So nice straw man there....

That is true but I also think Jerry and Jason have talked about the possibility. I think Garrett input will mean a lot to Jerry

I think you're probably right about that. That would be the ideal way for JJ to handle this and I think he respects JG enough that he would handle it that way.

Jerry does listen to those around him be it scouting, Stephen and Jason. I gather from BP that Jerry is a man who brings people in to get their views and when there is opposing views Jerry will make the final call based on the information of both sides. I think some think Jerry is just out there making moves on his own and I think that is pretty far from the truth based on things I have read and seen in the past.

While I would not be surprised at much of anything he could ever do, I tend to agree with you. He's not the unilateral decision maker that some people make him out to be. In fact, I believe that the current state of this team screams teamwork and an ability to listen on JJ's part.

I know all of what was said around the time of and after that draft, but I read an article on here recently (in the last week or two) in which somebody in the draft room said that was absolutely not true and that JJ was completely on board with the Martin pick. I know there were a lot of tales to the contrary, but I tend to believe that article. I guess the only way we would ever know for sure is if JJ came out and elaborated on what really went down that day.

So let me get this straight - Clarence Hill reports that Jerry said McClain will not be back with the team on Monday and Brandon George reports that Jones is not ruling out the possibility of McClain's return. Got it.

we had chances to walk away from all these guys, no hard feelings and we specifically chose to bring them back...they are all very average and not worth the time and money they got

Meh. I would understand why he wouldn't be allowed back, but I'd still like him here if he's in shape.

I'm not saying Jerry was not on board with the Martin pick but Jerry was also gushing over Johnny football before and after the draft. Makes you think that had others not been involved in the process and Jerry was making moves on his own what the likelihood of Manziel being drafted by the Cowboys would have been?
