For those who think Felix will start next year, think again!!! Felix is the guy who can make this offense exciting but not as a full time half back. That belongs to T.C.
Tashard showed us all last year that he is the rock steady half back we need. Felix is the scat back that can make a defense pay on any play. He needs to be moved around and especially in the slot where he can create mis matches. We need to learn the screen pass and utilize it with all of our three backs.

Marion is the the blunt instrument of the offense. He will press his full force on the neck's of the defense when they have had it trying to tackle Tashard and chase Felix.

Marion should not start the game, Tashard should!!!! Felix should be given a healthy number of touches at running back and slot receiver but the main man is definitely Tashard. He has the heart, the moves and the ability to break tackles on a consistent basis.

Let's use Marion to his best effect. He is a third down, short yardage guy and definitely the best closer in the NFL.

Done right this could be one of the great running back groups ever in the NFL.

I agree.

Still not sold on Barber being the starter and after Choice produced like he did against some of the leagues better defenses, I say give him the chance.

I like Flix starting.

Or better yet, I like the coaches to decide who's going to start.

We do love our backup running backs on this board.

If we start Choice then we will have people wanting to start whoever is behind him.

We wanted Hambrick over Emmit.

We wanted Barber over J. Jones.

Now we want Choice over Barber.

Who are we going to want over Choice?

We finally have a top notch running back again. Can't we be happy with that?

Did you see the runs he had from the tailback position? Felix is a great tailback and he doesn't NEED to go into the slot. It'd be nice for a changeup but he will be just fine as a full time tailback.

You are right about Felix. He is capable of going to the house from any position. I just don't think he can be the starter and take the pounding especially in the early going of a game. Let Tashard do the heavy lifting in the beginning of the game, bring Felix in liberally to run from the tailback position or catch passes from the slot and then hammer it home with Marion.

You know someone always gets hurt but we have the luxury of having 3 who are legitimate starters. The question for Jason is how do we get the most out of these outstanding athletes. How do we keep the defense off stride and how do we maintain possession.

Tashard seems to be right between the battering ram (MBIII) and the speedster Felix. You could not ask for more complemenatary backs. Throw in a little Witten and RW with a touch of Crayton and Austin and we got us a heck of an offense. Oh yeah, and don't forget Bennet. That big lad and catch and run.

If anything, we could have Barber move to FB on some plays.
Imagine having Barber and TC or Brber and Felix at the same time.....

On obvious passing downs put Cricket back at FB.

IMO Barber will start, Felix subs for him, then Choice will sub for Felix and after that you go with whoever is the most effective.

With that said I hope we run some two back sets with Felix and either Barber or Choice and motion Felix out as a receiver to get him one on one with a LB.

Excellent post. Of the three, Choice is most equipped to carry the load. MB3 for short yardage, red zone, and a smash mouth change of pace... Felix for the home run...

I agree. And I believe we will see more subsitution depending on game, team, down & ditance. I don't think it will be like last year where MBIII plays the majority.

I think we will see more various combinations the the 3. Not so much all in at the same time, unless they try a wildcat play. But I don't see Jason using that. I will be surprised. Unless they set it up as a wildcat, and try a shuffle pass out of that. I can se that one, or an end around.

But this is why I am on here typing this, and not out at Valley Ranch.

It would be more than he was getting before our other backs got hurt last season. The only problem I would have with him getting those carries is if its during garbage time during a game. He proved and showed that he can play at a high level in this league so he DESERVES more playing time. I dont want to hear the not enough balls to go around mantra it can work distributing to all three of our backs. To be honest I dont think it should just be about how many carries each back gets per game, Garret should go by what particular defense we're playing week to week and which back would be more effective against that defense. That back should get the bulk of the carries for that game while the other backs supplement throughout the. It would just take some egos taking a back seat but from what I've seen from all three of our backs I dont sense any big egos.

The only problem I have with frequent substitutions is that Barber seems to get on a roll when the pressure is high and he's given the rock repeatedly. I wouldn't want to see that kind of momentum broken for some artificial carry quota or strategic reason. Sometimes you just have to keep going to the well when it's producing.

How about all three in the game at the same time. MBIII at FB, Choice at tailback and Felix in the slot. RW and MA on the outside and Witten. That is a lot of talent for any defense to cover. I was listening to ESPN radio yesterday and they had a local announcer from Detroit on. They asked him if RW was a No. 1 receiver. He said most certainly, YES!!!!! He says RW has some of the best hands in the league and knows how to use his size to block out the defender. The only knock on him was his lack of speed. But we have that in Miles Austin and Felix Jones. I am getting excited for next year!!!

Agreed. Choice showed he has the quicks, shiftiness, vision and burst against the best NFL defenses to start. I'd hate to think we don't operate by what has proven what's worked on the field.

Barber's best quality is his physicality. This plays well in short yardage (although TC has shown to have that "feel" that doesn't eliminate him as an option) but especially in the second half.

Felix's explosion is good for sprinkling thourghout the game.

My gut tells me though that we'll start Barber, primarily because of his contract, add Felix and a smattering of Choice. The in-house wisdom being "this was out plan last year but injury took it away, let's do it again." But even prior to his injury, Barber wasn't producing as he had as a complement.

It's unfortunate because Choice is clearly the best overall back on the staff IMO.

For the most part I agree with you, but it would do no harm to have Barber as the nominal 'starter' and play for a series before installing Choice. That ought to keep everybody happy.
