Are you guys ready for TO?
Ashwynn said:man, the guy skates out of Philly and gets another pay check as he signs with another team to dismantle. Man, what a victory for TO. What a loss for Humanity sake. No wonder this world is so messed up. TO proves the point, cry your way to get what you want. America is going downhill fast. What a message to send to kids.

I remember talking about this just last week and it was stated then that because of his veteran status, he was not subject to the waiver process and becomes an unrestricted free agent if released. Can anyone confirm the waiver wire rules on this?

That hits the cap twice.

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Terrell Owens may get his wish after all.
According to a report in Newsday, arbitrator Richard Bloch is expected to reduce Owens' four-game suspension from four games to one or two games later Wednesday.
Owens was suspended four games by Reid for conduct detrimental to the team November 9. The NFL Players Association is seeking to have the suspension reduced and wants the Eagles to cut Owens if they have no intention of playing him again.

The report indicates that the Eagles, who planned to de-activate Owens for the remainder of the season, will release the mercurial superstar receiver instead. Philadelphia is concerned that Owens will cause a distraction if the ruling allows him to return to the Eagles' practice facility.
Owens has stated all along that he wants to return to the Eagles, but would want to be released if Philadelphia didn't plan to play him. If released, Owens would go through the league's waiver system, with the worst team getting the first shot of claiming him.
Owens is making a base salary of $3.75 million this season.

It still isn't the "smart thing to do."Jarv said:Actually not Hos, if a team was to pick him up this year, then trade him after the season is over, but before the March roster bonus. Then they would only have to pay him this year the pro-rated portion of this years salary...which would as of now 6/16's of this years salary, which I think is small anyhow.
Of course, what you could get for him would probably be minimal, due to the fact that he has a roster bonus of around 6 million in March.
Whatever team get him this year would get a great bargin. If you were planning on releasing him before March...Or you could pay the 6 million in March and keep him, but if you tarded him after that you would eat that 6 million...
Okay, everybody confused now !!!

Reality said:Here are the rules regarding NFL waivers ...
Section 1. Release:Translation ..
(a) Whenever a player who has finished the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers between February 1 and the trading deadline, his contract will be considered terminated and the player will be completely free at any time thereafter to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period. If the waivers occur after that time, the player’s Player Contract will be subject to the waiver system and may be awarded to a claiming Club. However, if such player is claimed and awarded, he shall have the option to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent at the end of the League Year in question if he has a no-trade clause in his Player Contract. If such player does not have a no-trade clause and the Player Contract being awarded through waivers covers more than one additional season, the player shall have the right to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent as set forth above at the end of the League Year following the League Year in which he is waived and awarded.
(b) Whenever a player who has finished less than the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers, the player’s Player Contract will be subject to the waiver system and may be
awarded to a claiming Club.
If T.O. has a no-trade clause and a team claims him, he can become a free agent at the end of this season. If he does not have a no-trade clause, then he can declare himself a free agent after the 2006 season.

Another reason why the Commanders are evil.sbuscha said:You have an arbitrator who is in direct conflict with football. This guy is a 20+ year Commanders season ticket holder. This guy is ruling with an underlyng motive whatever it may be. A new arbitrator neds to be chosen someone who is completly free of conflict....
I wonder if the league can look at the Eagles and regulate whether Douglas is allowed to hang around the team. After all, he has no roster spot, and I did hear where he instigated that little wrestling match in the locker room by going in the training room earlier that day when Owens was in there and saying something like "I know there's people in here faking injuries".
