T-Will has to change his ways

Williams can catch away from his body. How would he have made the third down catch in Seattle otherwise?

Of course Williams can catch with his hands, but that doesn't give him a wide catch radius unless he can do it consistently. Even I can catch a football with my hands. The problem here is that TWill isn't a natural pass catcher. He doesn't have that talent, but he can develop that skill. If you don't have that skill then all that other talent goes to waste. It even diminishes his terrific size and length. He might as well be playing with the same body as Cole Beasely if he can't catch balls anywhere outside of his numbers on a consistent basis. It only takes a few times for him to miss a catch on a less-than-perfect throw for a QB to lose trust in him. For a guy like Dez, all you have to do is throw it in his general vicinity and he will go up and get the ball just like every other superstar big receiver in the league. As Romo said last year about this problem when TWill disappeared for several games, "He just isn't open." He's not fast enough to just run by defenders and get wide open. Someone will always be near him so he will need to compete for the ball. You need to catch with your hands to do that consistently.

I think his main problem is that he lacks the confidence to catch with his hands during games because he's not a natural at it. I bet in practice he's pretty terrific. Irvin had some interesting things to say about this as well. When your arms get tense because you're trying so hard, your hands are no longer "soft" and balls begin to bounce off you.

Personally, I'm really rooting for the guy. I like TWill a lot, but the problem with his hands is a very big problem.

He had the drops but he also had a big catch at the end to get us closer to the goal line and then go out of bounds to stop the clock.

He is very good at catching near the side line and toe tapping before going out. That takes good concentration.

He is also very good at getting yards after the catch.

I have confidence in twill but I'd be highly suprised if dallas doesn't make a move at wr. Reggie wayne sounds great to me!

Williams is good at certain routes. I would not ask him to run routes where he'll be forced to make "hands" catches while being closely contested. It's a 25/75 proposition. Whenever he's able to square up and use his body, he's a much more effective and efficient pass catcher. Sadly, I don't think that's changing.

You can tell you won the game when the biggest gripe is about Twill and body catching.

We have enough weapons to match the score against the teams we'll face without Dez. It'll be up to Scotty to draw up the game plans to get our other weapons the ball.

Liked what I saw from the play calling last night to Dunbar. hopefully we'll see other options like Escobar get on the field to cause matchup issues.

Me not liking him, won't change the fact he's the teams number 2. Now the teams number 1 for at least a few weeks.

I always told people, the body catching will limit you. Especially in tight coverage. He dropped the ball too many times because he tries to hard to bring it in. He's not use to catching it with his hands.

Although I'm glad he got that PI called, it wasn't really that big of an interference, and if he learned to extend more and use his hands he would of made that play.

He's the number one now. He needs to be more consistent, and not have to have separation to make a play.

Especially with Dez out. He has to change, and be more aggressive.

and Dez dropped a big pass as well that gives us a 1st down by the goal line instead he dropped.

This is true but having Dez out a few weeks can be a blessing in disguise if it doesnt kill our record.

T. Will should develop a Lot as a player over the next month.

I don't buy that. It's never a blessing to have 88 out. People are looking at what Tony did in the 4th and are trying to sell a bill of goods by saying that we can do it without Dez. This is a crucial injury. I'm trying to be optimistic but just the presence of 88 changes an entire game plan for the opposition.

I don't think it bull that Dallas can win games without Dez. We do have some other very good players capable of making plays on offense. What is Bull is the thinking Dallas can't win without Dez.
To an extent your right people will look at what Dallas did late in the game without Dez and the fact they did it with 2 quick drives capping both off with TD. Dallas did not struggle to move the ball without Dez

I understand Dez is a big loss.

You must be of the belief everything is going to fall apart and we won't win a game.. That won't happen..

The NFL is all about QB play. Losing Dez hurts but it's not season ending and T.Will should get better over the next month as a player.

That's the positive spin.

If we lose every game like you think then yeah it was bad.

As long as Romo stands we're ok.

It's different when a team can game plan for 88 not being out there. I give Tony a ton of credit because after the Mincey penalty, I thought that game was over, but I think it's a mistake to believe that it will be that easy to move the ball like they did moving forward the next couple of games without Dez. Oh and bull was a typo. I meant a bill of goods.

I have been saying it since the day he was drafted that he's a body catcher. I'm not saying he can't play in the league as a body catcher, because he can, but Romo needs to hit him in the gut with this throws, not the hands.

Which makes him so much easier to cover. Yes Micahel and Randy caught the ball with their bodies when it was needed but otherwise it was all hands. I threw this in there because the popular rebuttal was michael irvin used his body to catch.

And I agree but, players need to go out and do their job. Romo will get them the ball. I'm sorry but if Dallas can't win because of 1 player (outside of QB) then we never had a chance. No doubt Dez is a great player and I hate to lose him but you bet I believe in these other players to do the job. Frankly Dez did not play great all night long, dropping and easy pass that would have puts us on the goal line.

I think the whole team was pressing a bit, and Dez was really pressing after the IV and all I think he was trying to score a TD on every throw.

Dez didn't play well, but that doesn't take away what he brings to this team, emotionally and the kind of respect that the other teams give him. He opens up other opportunities for other players. Dez doesn't need to have a great game in order to impact the game because of the respect that the other teams have to give him. At the end of the day, you need game breakers. Tony can only do so much. Tony had a great game yesterday, and we still almost lost to an incredibly inferior team.

So what Dallas season is done because of Dez? We have talent on this team outside of Dez guys who are capable of making plays. Will it be harder without Dez? sure, he is a star player but I will not take away from what other guys are capable of. Our guys went out and put together Back to Back drive without Dez they are capable. People act as if these are guys are dirt and without Dez they can't play that is not a fact.

I wouldn't single him out, he kept us in the game. Street and Beasley both fumbled and Dez dropped an easy one that cost us a first down.

Well maybe that's the difference. I don't trust T-Will, and Beasley is limited in what he can do. The presence of Dez makes these guys better. I didn't say that the season is done, but it sure doesn't help us in any of these games that he's out. I'm hoping that he will be back in 4 weeks. I think that Tony will be able to move the ball somewhat against some of these teams, but I think it will be very difficult to get consistent TD's in the redzone. Thankfully, Tony bailed the team out and pulled this W out because I think we'd be in a lot of trouble losing to that Giants team along with the Dez injury. Maybe I'm off base here, or just to much of a Dez supporter, but I'm more pessimistic at this point until he can return.
