Taco was the best DL last game.
Against the 2s, 3s and next years junior high PE teachers...
Taco was the best DL last game.
Written like someone who believes it is all about sacks ....
No sacks bro. No sacks. Nada.
What are you expecting for Taco to do this year @xwalker ?
I expect a performance that fans would be pleased with if he had been a free agent signing for the Kerry Hyder type contract (1M per).
I don't expect a performance that fana would be pleased with for a 1st round pick in his 3rd season.
Dlaw was not doing what he is now his first few years. That and Gregory's suspensions are most likely the reasons they went DE again in the first round.
Is Dlaw a bust?
Depends on what your definition of a bust is.
Will Taco ever be a probowler and pile up sack numbers? No, probably not.
Is Taco an average starter in the NFL? Yea, I think he is.
So, it all depends on what your definition of a bust is. If you think all first round picks should be probowlers, then yea, he would be a bust to you.
I’m just curious what that is. I don’t know what to expect from Hyder. 3 Sacks? Solid run defense?
I think Taco is probably capable of being a solid (average) player against the run. I don’t think he has the dedication or ability to be a very good pass rusher.
If Taco seriously applied himself he could probably be a moderately successful (not elite) pass rushing DE. Poor man’s Anthony Spencer.
But Spencer is light years ahead of Taco right now.
I realize that sacks can be misleading. Sacks are, to some degree luck. For instance, I think on Taco’s only sack last year he wasn’t blocked. Or, conversely a guy may get a sack and have it wiped out by a penalty.

I'm not referring to Hyder's ability, just his contract and how acquired compared to how Taco was acquired.
Taco's draft status is irrelevant at this point.
The only relevant issue is whether he is 1 of the 10 best DL on the team and is he one of the top 4 DEs on game day.
Spencer was a much better player than most fans ever realized. Playing the Strong Side OLB position in the Wade and RR 3-4 defenses was a very difficult position. It's a "3 tool" position in that it requires run defense, pass coverage and pass rushing skills. The Weak Side OLB position (Ware's position) had minimal pass coverage responsibilities and the run defense requirements were less also (The Strong Side OLB played the run almost like a 2-gap DL vs the WOLB playing it more like a 1-gap DL. The WOLB was often allowed to abandon run contain and just rush the passer off the snap).
Just be happy that scum of the earth Dez is gone.
You're just going to make yourself miserable focusing on Taco and Witten.
Taco has improved for sure. Let’s not forget how long it took DLaw to come on. Give the kid some time, he may surprise a few of you.
To be fair, Taco seems to be doing better after Marinelli had that "man to man" talk with him. The effort is there on a more consistent basis and he actually did some good things. The pressure he's getting seems more intense, which is always welcome. Whether he does well enough to outperform some of the younger guys remains to be seen, though. Armstrong, Hyder and Jackson are very likely to give him some stiff competition. That's always good to see!
