Tag Leary?

The Giants could've let JPP walk and used that money to add a couple needed pieces on their OL. They knew that they had no intention on ever signing JPP long term but they decided to keep the strength of their team together for one more season.

This free agency period sucks, this is easily one of the worst classes I have ever seen. At the rate things are going, Leary may be the best player on the market. Any decent player out there is going to be vastly overpaid because of the limited options on the market. At this point, if I am Jerry, I am trying to use whatever leverage I have to sign my own free agents before I touch that market.

The Giants used the tag to keep the strength of their team together for one more season. They would've been fine if they let JPP walk but they are a better team when he is on the field. The same can be said about Leary...we will likely be better if he is on the roster. He is never getting a long term deal with us but the cap is going up and we still have a couple triggers to create more room.

Leary is a better football player than most options on the market. He is not "elite" at his position but neither was Anthony Spencer and we tagged him twice.

I doubt this happens, I obviously know chances are slim but it's worth a discussion as all free agency options are drying up left and right.

NYG are going to work out a long term deal with JPP or trade him. That's why they used the non-exclusive transition tag. This not a one-year gambit. And Dallas would be foolish IMO to use the tag on Leary, esp with Collins and Cooper in the fold.

Too risky to play for the trade. If we spend $ on OL, it needs to be a real RT.

Collins who is cheaper already took over the left guard spot from Leary last year.....and you can't pay everyone on the offensive line especially with Martin already due a contract after next year....

Leary lost his job due to injury. I'm not condoning paying Leary..paying a player doesn't consist of a one year contract. I don't care who we sign for one year as long as we are under the cap.

The problem with tagging Leary is that Dallas believes it has its starting line (Smith, Collins, Frederick, Martin, Free). Now, I don't necessarily agree with that assessment, but if the team feels Leary is its sixth offensive lineman then there's no way you tag him.

I agree entirely.

If you tag Leary, you move Collins to OT. I don't know who in the organization is so against giving him a fair shot at tackle.

We don't have a player on this team that deserves the tag.

That can be looked at as both good and bad with our huge number of FAs

Id rather save the money for Martin who is up next year if im not mistaken.

Collins I think can replace leary (as he has shown prior to his injury) and play exceptionally well with minimal obvious drop off

We cant pay everyone and I feel Leary will be overpaid as he was a member of our Oline which has been the envy of the league the past few seasons

Good post. Look if I had my say Leary would retire a Dallas Cowboy, but I still think he's pissed off and will end up getting paid(who can blame him)? probably by the Commanders. I really hope he stays out of the conference, let alone the division, I just don't think he will.

Cooper is a FA. He was only signed through the playoffs. Hopefully Dallas saw something that makes them want to try to resign him.
