It's probably going to go to Lamar Jackson but if Prescott doesn't get any votes then I don't know what to say about the objectivity it all. Statistically, Prescott was just better in 2023. These numbers are not really close. But Prescott, due to the negative narrative that has followed him, is just NOT a sexy pick for MVP.

If it’s stats it’s Dak. The league is infatuated with Lamar Jackson though. I don’t understand it but man they pump that guy up like crazy.

I’ve been dissecting the stats all year. Dak has been statistically the best QB. Purdy’s numbers are very close, but his extremely high YPA seems to inflate his passer rating. That’s the only stat he beats Dak in. Also, given how lights out CeeDee has been, I don’t think it’s fair to penalize Purdy and Tua for having lots of offensive weapons.

Statistically, Dak and Purdy, with Tua slightly behind, have had the best overall numbers all year. Lamar is surprisingly close when you add in his rushing yards/TDs. But also, stats isn’t everything. Kirk Cousins had the best stats before he got injured.

At this point, all Dak, and even Purdy, can do is win big to silence critics.

Winning is what separates QBs. The only modern QB who has won anything is Mahomes, so there’s a lot of room for the next generation of QBs to build their legacies.

Negative narrative? He laid waste to mostly cupcakes and padded his stats against the leagues worst. I mean , we had him in the game in the 4th quarter of a 35-10 game just to pad more stats. Go look at how he played against the best teams on our schedule SF, Buffalo, Miami…… the 2 divisional round playoff losses. Those are the games that forge the narrative and provide context.

Bc he’s the QB of the best team in the league and he does it all. His team was better than Daks. AND He did what Dak could not do…… make SF look like chumps on their home field. So he deserves the regular season glory this year.

Dak has the stats, but Lamar has the bigger performances against the better opponents.

If there was ever a year for Dak to win it it was this year. The QB play had been incredibly weak.
He has also been the media darling since he came in, even in his down seasons.
He will win on popularity. Not because he deserves it.

And it should not be who or what teams they beat. In most of the losses, the defense failed. It is supposed to be about what the players meant to the team.
But we all know it is not about that either.

It is because he is more popular with the NFL and the media.

Dak Big Games

These are the ones they’re thinking about when voting.
  • Both Philly games (rival)
  • SF (rival)
  • Sea-Buf-Mia-Det (toughest schedule in NFL, end of season)
Record: 3-4

Going to be tough to get the votes. Especially since Lamar beat most of these teams.

Still think MVP should go to CeeDee.

Jackson also has another 800 yards rushing. He's been the better complete player, has more wins and in bigger moments. Dak is in the conversation but Lamar has the better case

If it was a popularity contest, Mahomes would win it every year. Lamar and his team were better than anyone else this year.
No he would not. I am saying it is a popularity contest most of the time. Jackson did not have that good of years since he won it the 1st time. But yet he has always been put in the conversation. Mahomes had a down year and was obvious he would not be considered.

The Buffalo and Miami games killed Dak’s chances. He was the clear favorite and probably would have stayed there had those games gone differently. At the same time, Jackson had a monster game and has his team with a better record and sitting as the 1 seed. He deserves it regardless of the numbers. Dak’s season is one for us all to proud of, even those of us labeled as Dak haters, and should give us hope going forward.

As to my responses above. I am not saying Dak should win it over Lamar. As he did have a great season. I am just saying Lamar is pushed by the media to be like a Tom Brady.

Yup.

Such a media darlin they said he was a WR coming out of college. Then when he got to play they called him a RB playing QB.

Lamar has never been a media darling.

One thing will separate Lamar Jackson from his peers in this season's MVP vote. The man has been electric. He was a constant highlight reel when plays broke down, sometimes scrambling 10-15 yards from sideline-to-sideline only to 'impossibly' find an open man for a first down or touchdown. He would routinely run for first downs when he could not find an open man, usually making people miss--and look silly in the process.

The statistics are close but Jackson has Madden cover written all over him this season. Sometimes pizzazz gives you an edge that others cannot match.

Another MVP by Lamar puts pressure on him win the Super Bowl. The media isn’t gonna give him a pass if he comes up short again this year. Multiple MVPs, multiple times as the 1-seed, and a 1-3 playoff record. It’ll especially be interesting if Joe Flacco does well in this playoffs.
