Talent For Trade?

It looks like we might have "too much" talent at a few positions like WR, Safety/Corner and maybe tight end, as we may have more quality players than roster spots available. I think that barring injury we might be able to trade away a few players in exchange for next years draft picks.

Unless we go "long" at WR, a pretty good receiver is going to be cut. It looks like Hannah is probably not going to make the 53 man roster. Moreover, it looks like there is a glut of talent at corner/safety, although those guys might slide through to the practice squad.

Thoughts?

Each teams going to cut like 25+ guys. Your not getting picks for Hannah, Manny Johnson, Pat Watkins etc.

unless we move a guy like Barber, we aren't getting crap.

How could we have too much talent if we're barely going to achieve 9-7 again?

The "talent" you speak of at WR looks mighty thin if you remove RW from the lot.
The same is true if you remove Hamlin from S or Newman from CB.
Remove Witten... from a 2 TE offense?

We're not loaded at any position so much as we merely have some quality depth. All it takes is one key injury at any position to make you reevaluate how "talented" you think the depth is.

I'm not sure that I agree with an abundance of talent at any of those positions. Particularly receiver and safety.

Looks like we're thinking along the same lines here.

Can't wait for the Pre-Season games but from what we've heard it is going to be really hard to let go of rookies like Mickens, Ogletree, Johnson, Smith and Hamlin so far..especially considering the impact of the rookie LBs on the roster numbers.

for months theres been threads concerning trading for/bringing in quality receivers eg boldin, holt and now marshall and how we need more talent so i admire your optimism. i wouldn't necesarilly agree with those either but i definately wouldn't say we are loaded at WR.

The only position we might be loaded at is RB and I think they still have a lot to prove.

The only guys we have that teams would trade for are the ones that are going to make our team, and we need to keep those around. =) All the other guys we're just going to cut anyway so if another team wants them all they have to do is wait for that.

Is it really possible for any team to have too much WR talent. That's one position that an abundance is definitely a blessing. (coming from a Skins fan who understands how hard it is to find good help these days :))

should trade barber and/or witten for young, healthy, starting level OL.

For me I guess it would really depend on who we would be trading for. I never turn down an offer until I hear what the deal is. For me to give up a Witten or a Barber that player your after better be damn good because both of these players are good and important part of this team

to me this "too much talent" assesment is based on training camp reports....well guess what....I am sure EVERY team has the same stories coming out of training camp

How can we be deep at WR when we only have ONE wr that has ever caught over 50 balls in a season?

How can we be deep at Safety we we only have ONE who has ever played at an above average level in the NFL (Ken Hamlin)

What I hope we don't do...is cut a really good player to keep one of these sorry *** OL just for numbers sake

Since all of our starters are one injury away from not playing, I am sure that the league will let us carry 73 players on our roster instead of the usual 53.

It is a numbers game .... for example we probably will not be able to carry more than say 5 receivers without going short at another position. Ogletree seems to be impressing, so if he does anything at all in the preseason, it is unlikely that he makes it to the practice squad. Stanback has potential, but he can't seem to stay healthy. I'm sure we would like to keep BOTH of these guys, but the odds are we won't unless we short another position.

This is one example of the numbers game that I'm talking about.
