And I'm saying I don't buy that for one second. I don't for one minute believe that you think all 255 Draft picks and 100 udfa players are on 100% equal ground and have the same potential and expectations.

This is the exact flaw that draft graders have when they make their evaluations on Monday following the draft. There's very unreliable information to use when setting expectations of players - all you have is their college body of work. The old phrase "The draft is a crapshoot" summarizes it perfectly. It's kind of like a company hiring you - they look at your resume and focus almost exclusively on what you've done lately. They may make some new hires based on college GPA, but after that it becomes a criteria that matters less and less to them.

I think history has proven that players from all backgrounds can succeed in the NFL. They can be drafted first overall or undrafted. I'm sure a statistical study would show that first round picks on average turn out to be better than later round picks, but to say that a team will be good because it has a lot of first round picks is to ignore the rest of more valuable info - i.e. what the player has done IN the pros.

Make your same original post for an all-rookie team and then it makes more sense to me. All we can go on is the player hype out of college. Make it with veterans and I say I don't care where they were picked. Believe it or not.

Offense is obviously different in that if you have a great QB, you'll have a good offense regardless of the other players around him, simply because so much of the offense depends solely on his play.

With defense you can have the best DE or corner or whoever in the game, but if the rest of the defense sucks, it doesn't matter how good that player is, the defense will suck.

If we didn't have Tony, but had a Jason Campbell or someone else, we probably wouldn't think the offense was that much better than the defense, if at all.

How about you assemble a team of 3rd rounders in the current NFL. Anybody you want as long as they were 3rd rounders at the time of their Draft. I'll assemble a team of 1st rounders. Which one do you figure will garner more votes about higher expectations?

The best TE in the game (in my opinion) is Jason Witten. Ironically enough, a third rounder. The player who might get more votes as the best TE is an undrafted free agent. That's not going to be true for every position, but it illustrates the point of a player's draft position not mattering much after their rookie training camp (players kept on the roster for salary cap debt aside).

When you fill out that roster of first round picks, are you going to be picking them from the list based on what they have done as pros? If so, you've made my point. Otherwise why not just limit yourself to picking from a list of the top players picked at their position each draft. A player like David Terrell over Reggie Wayne. Or Kevin Dyson over Randy Moss. Those should be the best based on the original draft position premise.

I believe you don't care, I don't believe that you don't have expectations. Maybe you don't. If you truly don't you're a better man than I am Gunga Din.

Personally I'm disappointed in the Defense. I expect better than we've gotten.

We can do either. Limit it to this year, or their career. I don't care which, although it is near impossible to create a team from just this year since there aren't 22 positions picked per round. I think people would expect more of the team of 1st rounders. Make it 5 years. Doesn't matter. We expect more of players who are drafted higher. Make your team of 3rd rounders and let me make 5th rounders. It won't tell you the same thing?

Maybe because we don't all see things exactly the same?

I don't know just saying.
