FA isnt the answer to the Cowboys problems. Drafting and spending their money wisely is.
What is this about?
And thanks for the summary!
I have no problems with any moves the Cowboys have made thus far inthe offseason.
• Teams are learning Anthony Spencer is not football ready
• Crawford already at VR working out and running
• Dallas made 4 smart moves with Melton, Weeden, McClain, and Mincey.
Sign Spencer to a 2 year vet min deal and IR him this year?
Good news about Crawford. Needs to be a major contributor.
After all the CZ hand wringing about Weeden, McClain and Mincey it's good to see some kind words. Hopefully it's not just lip service.
Even if McClain was a little soft vs the (and the PFF ratings do not support him being either good or bad vs the run) he's got to be a better overall #1 technique DT than Hayden.
Nick was about equally awful vs the run and the pass.
Again, put a DT out there who ranks say 40th rather than 68th... and you've improved your defense.
im still not sure he will ever play again. Karma..
Karma for what?
They used their connections with the jags to speak to the trainer with the jags who was formerly emplyed with the bears and worked with Melton in Rehab to get a better perspective then just dr check on how Melton was doing and how he was progressing with his movements.
McClain isn't soft against the run and he's an upgrade over Hayden. I really think he has the chance to be a significant piece for Dallas and surprise a lot of people, not as a star but an effective one-tech in a rotation. People are wanting guys like Tony McDaniel and Pat Sims but neither of those guys did squat until they got into there mid-late twenties, and now people pretend like they've been good players all along. Sometimes it's all about the right time, right scheme, right coaches and opportunity to play...I think he's a great fit as a one-tech and will be a good rotational player for Maranelli.
Seconded!
I could see the Cowboys not drafting a DT. I wouldnt really like that idea but it could happen. I think Dallas has plans for Mincey to play more then just DE but that 3tech too. You're right.
I threw out the name of Pat Sims previously, but in McClain the Cowboys could already have their "Pat Sims".
The Cowboys may not even draft a #1 DT until the 7th round.
Crawford, Bass and McClain are probably going to be the 1techs. Dallas will probably draft another 3tech. I think Hayden gets released at some point

RD1 Dallas i think has a play at BPA, even if its WR or QB.
If one of the top QBs fall i think they would jump on him.
If Evans fell i think they would get alot of calls to trade with BAL right behind DAL.
A player like Zack Martin would further solidify a up and coming OL and allow Bernadeau to go back to backup, and even backup C.
Mosely or Barr would be a pick Dallas could really use to improve.
Even in a trade down i could see them picking up a LBer in Shazier. Or a DE in Ealy or Crichton.
I really think DT is off the books for DAL in RD1.
Oh I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys do not draft a DT in the first round.
If I had to vote, I'd go with a trade down and a DE chosen in round 1.
me too. I'd want Dee Ford over any DE in this draft. Even over Clowney. Ford has everything you want in a DE. Clowney is awsome on some plays and average when he doesnt win with speed. Ford has the technique to beat you in different ways
I'd be pleased with Ford.
Hayden was arguably the worst starting defensive lineman in the NFL last year.
