There were no credible sources saying Cowboys were going to release Romo.

Mickey says there are 3 sides playing poker, Cowboys, Romo, and interested teams. And says Romo is stirring the pot from both sides. Says Romo goodbye speech was suggesting he had some place to go but views this as trying to drum up interest for himself.

Rob says he think Romo would rather retire then be Daks backup.

Speaking to Jerry on the bus at the combine, never got the feeling he was going to release Romo at the start of FA.

Jerry Quote on Romo situation at the combine
"We are in a situation in indy where we need to see some things happen. We need to read some tea leaves. We dont need to be overtly doing something, We dont need to that for cap room, we dont need to do that for anything."

He said back then that march 9th was never a self imposed deadline for Romo but nobody listened.

He's not going to start in Dallas.

Theres no hurry to get anything done with Romo.

Listen to what Jerry is saying, because when they mention sources, Jerry is usually the source.

Romo is not retiring. Think its easy to write a check back to the Cowboys for 10million Dollars?

Team seems to want kellen Moore on the Team because even SJ said we see us having Moore and Vet or Moore and a Rookie.

Like or not this is good business Dallas is doing.

It's simply stupid to release Romo for nothing.

Trade him or he's the backup. Dak is one bad hit from us having a 2015 season all over.

Plus it's not like saving the cap space means we become players in free agency.

Nobody is really signing anybody for long term deals except for a very few signings. If you look at them most of these deals are basically 2 yr deals.

The idiot in all this is Houston.

They are the only team DIRELY in need of Romo's services. It doesn't matter if they are the favorite or not, they don't have the room for error. John Elway is a god in Denver only 13 months removed from a world championship, and he can afford to play poker. Dallas is under no rush. Rick Smith and Bill O'Brien don't have that luxury.

So you'll offer a No. 2 pick to get rid of a QB, but you won't offer something similar to get the only QB that gives you any chance at a championship this year? Don't you want that guy in your building asap?

Sometimes you're just Houston.

I was cringing through the first 10 minutes of that episode listening to Spags trying to set-up counter arguments to arguments that weren't even being made. He's such a little rodent.

For once, I'd love for Rob to say: "No, Mick. You have no point."

Let him retire and if something happens to Dak or Dak tanks then he would come back out of retirement.

Just hold a QB competition this offseason and let the best player win. I think Romo wins it, but I'm not sure how many games he would end up starting due to his age and recent injuries. I think Dak would handle being Romo's backup fine.

And how are they gonna compete? In practice, where the defense doesn't hit? Or in preseason. When teams go vanilla in offense/defense. I myself think Dak would win. He'll have much better knowledge of the offense and more confidence in his game.

My sentiments exactly. The longer they wait, the price goes up.

I actually think it's stupid to release or trade him. Wake up people (not directed at you SL50, just in general). You have a rookie 4th round comp pick that took the league by storm. RG3 was figured out after he looked like he was going to have this division in his back pocket the next 10 years. I am not saying that Dak is the next RG3, I actually feel that Dak has an amazing future ahead and he is the real deal but it doesn't hurt to have insurance. I think Romo needs to stay on at least half of this season so that Dak can ensure this ball club that he is the real deal. Your not going to get a decent backup QB with a second round pick anyways so why not just wait and see.

Mickey's right on this one, though. Everybody jumped at the two unsubstantiated twitter rumors that the Cowboys were going to release Tony at the start of free agency, and that wasn't the plan. Jerry outright said not to listen to the noise, and that turned out to be the case.

People have been worked up since the start of FA over this, but the reality is, until somebody offers a trade, we have no incentive to release Tony prior to the end of the draft. There's no scenario where Tony doesn't come into training camp and beat out a Tom Savage or a Trevor Siemian or even a Blake Bortles or whichever stiff they expect to trot out in SF or NYJ. In a worst-case scenario, Tony's going to be free to pick his team at that point. Prior to that, there's no reason not to hold out until we get our best offer. Right now, the loser in the Tony-derby still can look to the draft or at a guy like Cutler or Fitzpatrick or Daniels. That might not be the case in May, so, if they want the lock the QB position down for 2017, it's in their interest to do it at the league meetings here in 10 days or whatever.

The only problem is, I think DEN might be serious about sitting tight with Siemian. And I expect Tony only wants one of two teams if he could pick them himself. That means the Texans have to come off the spot, which so far they don't want to do. I'd make them pay for the luxury by sitting through the draft and seeing what they come up with.

Then again, I'd be ok with letting Tony play for his job in Dallas in camp.

I think Denver or Houston would easily ship a 7th for Romo right now. I think Jerry is holding out for a much higher pick.

Like I said, Jerry didn't get to be a billionaire being stupid.

The Texans overplayed their hand. They want Romo and will swoop him up if we release him. They really want to roll with Savage to start the season? :lmao:
Jerry's not letting Romo go for free. A deal is going to happen if we wait long enough. It will either get done during the draft (swapping picks 20 for 28, maybe even swapping picks in the second round) or we'll get a fourth or maybe even a third.

But we'll get something ... I think. I hope.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry actually floated that trial balloon out there to stir the pot and force the Texans to play their hand. They did. Big ... time.

That Jerry. The old coot still got it.
