Jerry has been running things for 18 years, will continue to run things until the day he dies, at which point his son will take over the operation. The Jones family is synonymous with the Dallas Cowboys, and will be for the foreseeable future, like it or not. When you root for the Cowboys, you're rooting for the Jones family. When you buy a Cowboys jersey, you're putting money into Jerry's pockets.Because Jerry is not "the Cowboys." Owners and players come and go, but the team is forever.
So if you really felt this strongly about your anti-Jerry convictions, you'd have jumped ship a long time ago. I don't buy it. Your moral standards aren't enough to change your actions, obviously... so evidently, those standards aren't very strong after all.
Look up "analogy" in the dictionary.I'm a metaphorical ****?? This thread has really gone off the rails. Remind me: you're the guy I was defending, right?
And you defended me because, like 90% of everyone in this thread, you misinterpreted my stance.
What a cop-out.I am not the owner of the Dallas Cowboys. I do not have the power to set an example for the rest of the league.
You still have the power to stop watching. You still have the power to stop buying Cowboys stuff. This affects the Cowboys ownership that you detest so much. To sit there on your computer and complain about Jerry and his integrity, while sporting a Romo jersey with the Cowboys game on your TV is VERY hypocritical of you. Kinda ironic that you were slamming Jerry for his hypocrisy.
You want to know why we love Jerry? Because he'll do whatever it takes to WIN, at any cost. He wants to win as badly as the fans do. If that means bringing in a guy with questionable character, so be it. With great risks come great rewards. After the Irvin fiasco, JJ vowed to build a team with character, not reform ex-cons. And the second a major player goes down, his ethics conveniently go out the window. We now know it was all lip service.
Tell me something... Jerry gave "lip service" when he said he'd only go for high character guys, right? To whom was he giving this "lip service" to... the fans, correct? Well, if Jerry changes his mind and decides to bring in a Tank Johnson... and the majority of the fans are on board with his change of heart... what, exactly, is the problem?
Should Jerry just stick to his original word, even if it means the Cowboys' chances of winning games is smaller, just because a small minority of fans (like you) have a problem with bringing these guys in... all for the sake of sticking to his word?
Owners, GMs, and coaches change their minds all the time. It's only an issue when it's not done in the best interest of WINNING FOOTBALL GAMES.
One of my best friends is a diehard Green Bay fan. He's always telling me how lucky I am that Jerry is the Cowboys' owner... Ted Thompson, the GM of the Packers, turned down a golden opportunity to take Randy Moss for a measly 4th round pick, because he was afraid of hurting the team's image. More than that, Thompson was afraid of being fired at season's end if the Moss signing went awry. He turned down the bold move that could've potentially turned the Packers into a major powerhouse. Jerry the GM can't be fired, so he has no fear of bold moves. We're a lot luckier than you think.
