Tank... am I the only one appalled at the double-standard?

I guess I don't understand, you'd like to see a lot more outrage?
I'd like to see consistency from people.

If you were outraged by the T.O. signing because of how atrocious of a human being you thought he was, you should be twice as outraged at the Tank signing.

It's an absurd double-standard.

One guy has a big mouth/ego, and he's worse than Hitler... another guy is an actual thug who has been in trouble with the law several times, and those same people welcome him with open arms.

Like I said... I was for BOTH signings. I'm pumped about getting Tank.

But if you were one of the cry-babies whining about how you won't root for the team as long as T.O. is here, or that Jerry is "selling his soul to the Devil", you are a complete hypocrite if you are in favor of the Tank signing... or if you just aren't strongly opposed to it.
You don't have to be consistent for the sake of being consistent. Life is about living and learning.
This is about principles people held only 18 months ago. Moralities they claimed to have, and at times rubbed in other peoples' faces.

It is not about winning football games. It is not about the smart thing to do from a salary cap standpoint. If THOSE were the only reasons you were against the T.O. signing, this thread is not directed at you. This is about those morality pushers who poo-poo'd those of us who wanted T.O. because of the type of person that T.O. is/was.

Much of the outrage at T.O.'s signing was because they felt that he was just an awful human being, and they wanted NO part of him as a Cowboy, WIN OR LOSE.

How many people against the T.O. signing said a Super Bowl win with T.O. would be an "empty victory"?

So, no... the "well, T.O. hasn't blown up yet and we're winning football games!" contrition does not hold much weight.

Seriously?

One that has a military caliber and is not considered a hunting weapon. For example, an SKS.

I know, but I thought I'd keep it simple. I love the 10/22 BTW. Wish I had one. I did have an SKS for a while. I was lethal with it on the range.

Don't post what you have on the web! I love the Patriot Act, but you have to at take some precautions against those red flag words. Wouldn't want the FBI computers to lock on accidently. ;)

Whatever you say, don't repeat the ominuous phrase., "Durka, Durka, Mohammed Jihad!"

Que??? I'm actually confused if the Cowboys were interested in signing Tank, why didnt they pursue Randy Moss? A Moss/T.O. combination would be deadly for opposing defenses. This is where the hypocracy lies.

So what you are saying is T.O could screw up and get cut by the team and you would not care one way or the other.

Excuse me. I am opening my window to scream BS.

You can't put Tank and T.O in the same debate. They are 2 different caliber of players. One is a workhorse and the other is a game changing WR.
That's exactly what I mean. I wouldn't care. I don't have strong emotions tied to either guy. Both guys are major talents and can produce on their respective side of the ball. But they come with a plane full of baggage.

If they're signed, you want them to play well and not bring any of the BS with them. And if they do something that made them end up on the street in the first place, I would hope they would quickly be escorted out the door.

As a fan, what else am I supposed to do? Howl at the moon in outrage?

I would certainly howl if T.O was an idiot and got suspended.

There goes half our offense. Bye Bye!!

Call me emotional.

If you think somebody is an idiot, why get mad when they do idiotic things? You already knew they were an idiot.

Jerry is selling his soul to the DEVIL!

He is signed to an absolute minimum, (plus performance incentives) that means the Cowboys can cut him on a whim. That wasn't the case with Owens. This guy so much as looks at someone the wrong way, the Cowboys can release him. He wants to play and the Cowboys have a need. If he acts like an alter boy but doesn't perform, the Cowboys can cut him.

So basically people should develop opinions (which you call principles) and never change them because you say so.

Gotcha.

It is my christian upbringing. I hope and honestly feel people can change. Sometimes you have to hit them over the head w/ a skillet, but they can change.

I hope Tank understands the opportunity Dallas is giving him. I saw some interviews w/ him a few weeks ago. He had his family w/ him. He appeared sincere about wanting to get another shot to play and to show everyone he is not a bad person.

I am pulling for him to do better in his life. He needs to and his family needs him to.

T.O is doing and saying the right things. It also appears he is older and wiser than his younger days. He may make me eat these words later. For now tho he seems genuine. Who knows.

So all it took was a Cowboys-friendly deal to make you happy?

I was for T.O and I am for Tank, but do agree with your point though. Personally I really don't think TJ is all that bad a person...and the gun charge was way overblown in my books.

I completely understand your position. Certainly not a bad one to have.

I guess I have a expect the worst, hope for the best mentality with knuckleheads. I've seen too many in my lifetime. You want to see them change and improve, but they always seem to fail you. With these guys, is you gotta actually see it first before you start removing any doubts.

Let me add that I was strongly in favor of the T.O. signing. I knew there was a chance he could be a problem, but the potential reward outweighed the risks for me. Besides, we were not a Super Bowl contender with Keyshawn and Terry Glenn... perhaps T.O. could help elevate us to that level.

I think you just answered your own question. This club sold its soul when it signed TO and today is just more of the same. The mercenary, "win at all costs" 1990's have returned to Valley Ranch. Honor, class and integrity are now subservient to winning. Calvin Hill needn't stick around anymore. This isn't about "redemption" or giving a guy "a second chance." If that were true, he'd a been on the roster before Fergy got hurt. No, this is about naked opportunism. Enjoy the signing if you're inclined to, but spare me the warm and fuzzy spin.

Yes. I was against signing Tank, but with Ferg down, we could use someone else. I'm not saying he is a great fit for the Cowboys, but with the deal we got we have the option to find out. We are getting this guy next to nothing and as I noted, if the wind changes we can cut him without causing much of a ripple in the water. How often can you sign a guy that obviously has quite abit of talent for next to nothing? How many times can you do it with the ability to drop him like a brick? We didn't have that option with TO. TO got a $25M deal.

Without question, this is a steal for the Cowboys. The only better steal was Moss to New England for a fourth round pick and Moss cutting his salary from $9.75M to $3M.

I've read many a story about the antics of players from the 70s to think that this organization "winning at all costs" began when Jerry took over.

It's one thing to hate the signing for moral reasons or whatever, but don't act like this team didn't have its fair share of questionable characters in the past.

I guess it's hard for me to equate your happiness with the original post declaring outrage over people not declaring outrage over the possible signing. Guess it's not for me to understand.
