Mostly, I'm just appalled at the number of crappy threads around here lately.

Maybe I can start one about zone blitzes.

Zone blitzes? Stop making stuff up.

What a bunch of sissys!

These are football players and they tend to be a little rowdy and aggressive.

He had some guns and got in trouble. Its over so lets move on and be glad we signed a quality NT.

I think you just answered your own question. This club sold its soul when it signed TO and today is just more of the same. The mercenary, "win at all costs" 1990's have returned to Valley Ranch. Honor, class and integrity are now subservient to winning. Calvin Hill needn't stick around anymore. This isn't about "redemption" or giving a guy "a second chance." If that were true, he'd a been on the roster before Fergy got hurt. No, this is about naked opportunism. Enjoy the signing if you're inclined to, but spare me the warm and fuzzy spin.

Oh, i think if you really knew all the dirty little secrets of the Landry era you may be surprised.

I can't stand inconsistency in people. So I am appalled. Did I LIKE the fact that people were whining from their high-chairs about the T.O. signing, from a morality standpoint? No. But if you ARE going to hold such principles, don't change your mind 18 months later when we bring in an even worse seed. From those morality pushing clowns, yes. Show the same outrage, or more, than you showed when we brought T.O. in. Otherwise, you're a flip-flopping hypocrite.

If you ripped up your Cowboys Fan Card, by now it should have been tossed into a wood chipper.
All people are inconsistent. I've never met one person who isn't.

Me, I'm glad there's less upheaval and stupidity, but I have to deal with that differently than most here do.

Good luck finding the outrage you crave. Think I'll hope you fail if you don't mind. Personal reasons why that kind of stuff doesn't appeal to me.

I'm not thrilled that Dallas is signing this guy and I just hope that he can keep out of trouble as long as he is with the Cowboys.

I have very limited knowledge of Tank Johnson, I have to say his problems in Chicago certainly indicate he identifies with the gang culture. If he has learned his lesson or not we are about to find out.

He broke Chicago gun laws and he was arrested and he has paid a substantial price for those offenses, And rightfully so those are the laws in Chicago.

However if he had played in Texas or Florida, Arizona and other states he would have never had any kind of criminal offense. His first arrest for a pistol in his SUV is not against the law in Texas, His second arrest for having "unregistered" guns in his house is against the law in very few American cities and it is probably Un-Constitutional to require citizens to register firearms. As a matter of fact some of Washington DCs gun laws were declared illegal just this year. Now he broke those Chicago laws and he served his sentence that is all a man can do under those circumstances.

I'm far less concerned with the gun arrests than I am the thug mentality, Hopefully he's learned his lesson.

Actually, the ratio of pro-TO to anti-TO sentiment on this board prior to his signing was like 80:20. The TO detractors (small, yet vocal) convened in a phone booth. Today is just more of the same. Somehow, a star on the helmet magically erases seedy personal histories and rapsheets.

I was opposed to TO and to an extent still have concerns. Right now everything is great and seldom will you have players having blowups when things are going great. When you hit the bumps in the road of a season and things get rough that is when you find out the true colors of a player. Up to this point I have only seen minor things that have happened and during this off-season I have not seen anything that I would deem as poor behavior on his part. To me wearing the star is not a free ride from being called out when a player is acting like a idiot.

Nice post! Like Jim Brown said about Vick, the off field issues are more important than anything that happens in football. Tank needs to understand that as a dad, he owes ti to his kids o take a hard look at what he's doing in life.

As a model of consistency, I'm greatly offended by this. :)

I get what you're saying... and it's not that I "crave outrage". I just dislike inconsistency. And I disagree that "all people are inconsistent".

Because the sheep have no scruples. I hope I don't see any more threads mocking the Bengals' travails, because we too are now in the criminal coddling business. I support this signing because it fills a need and I want to win. But we're no better than anyone else. That's the point. Indeed, that's the lament.

OMG. This guy is like a broken record.

Well, you are young, so as life goes on, if you are consistant now, as you say, you will eventually find that you really are not! And you can take that to the bank!!

As a 16 year old boy did you want to have sex with a 15 year old girl?

Now, you have a 15 year old daughter, do you want her to have sex with the 16 year old boy who wants to have sex with her?

In some way, all of us are hypocrites. Every single solitary one of us. It's called being human. If my wife were to walk on water I am the last person in the world who would be shocked. I think she's an angel. In 17 years together I have heard her curse 3 times and 2 of them were the word "damn." Even she has inconsistent tendencies.

We all do.

Jerry Calls Audible On Character

September 18, 2007 5:02 PM

You had to know Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones would make the call at some point. When we first told you about rumblings of the club's interest in disgraced ex-Bears defensive tackle Tank Johnson, the Cowboys sounded genuinely hurt.

Director of scouting Jeff Ireland told Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist Randy Galloway that the Cowboys removed Johnson from their 2004 draft board because of his off-field problems at the University of Washington.

"Any interest would be pretty minimal right now," Ireland said. "There were a lot of issues coming out of college with this guy, and now it's been compounded by what went on with the Bears. I don't think we'd be interested at all."

What Ireland, a fellow Baylor alum, didn't realize was that Bill Parcells' philosophy of not offering refuge to criminals and other creeps was no longer in place.

From his palatial estate at Saratoga National Golf Club, you can bet Bill has been keeping close watch on his legacy, and in my mind, it pretty much ends with today's signing of Johnson.

You could find a lot of things to criticize Parcells for during his stay in Dallas, but he was successful at cleaning up the club's tarnished image. Yes, I realize T.O. arrived on his watch, but you can't accuse the mercurial wide receiver of being a criminal.

What's funny is Johnson's rap sheet should've confirmed the Cowboys' draft-day decision in 2004. But now, we'll get to hear Jones talk of redemption and second chances, a number that's not quite accurate if you visit with Bears management.

Jones is by nature a gambler, and he knows how rare it is to find a talented defensive tackle on the street. From a football perspective, Johnson is a perfect fit for coach Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense. His background in a 4-3 defense in Chicago is actually a good foundation because he's familiar with lining up in different spots.

He's a 6-3, 300-pound (pre-prison snacks) man who once ran a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash. He'll have to wait until Nov. 11 to play unless commissioner Roger Goodell gets a wild hair and reduces the suspension to six weeks, according to my pal Todd Archer, but it's a done deal.

A new era has begun in Cowboys football. One that should look really familiar. In this cutthroat league, bothersome details such as wisdom and integrity are pretty low on the depth chart.

32 Teams... watered down teams... not enough players to go around.

Thats part of the reason that players get 2nd and 3rd and 4th chances...

I really had to laugh when people were SOOOO SURE that TO would never play in the NFL again....

Tank will find a home... so will Vick... like it or not....

Thats the way it is...
