NOT THAT I WANT HIM GONE, but when you think of contracts coming up Diggs, Lamb, Micah down the road, can we afford to have him here also???

Coog, the first thing I think needs to be looked at is effectiveness. Not just the stats, but actual game film to see how he is impacting the other team's O and helping our D. If we can get another player that costs significantly less with the same effectiveness, then it becomes time to look at moving on. I don't know all the salary implications regarding this.

I've been wondering if we can upgrade that spot, even though he's good. He's an elite run defender, but if you take away week 3 from last year, then he only had 3 sacks. I know sacks aren't everything, but they're definitely something lol

Great post I agree. He makes a few splash plays it seems every game, is he a game wrecker, does he compliment Micah well, does he benefit often from the attention Micah gets?? So many questions that need to be answered

That's where the big money comes from, really good against the run, but he's being paid a lot to get to the qb

I understand it’s a business, and I certainly understand he put this team in a bind during his negotiations (which is well within his right), but all that being said he’s been nothing but a team player since. He’s played through injury, he’s accepted a pay cut to help support the finances of the team, he’s been the only legitimate body we had trot out on the DL before the Micah era. I hope he retires a Cowboy tbh

Contract is guaranteed for 2023.

He signed a new 3-year contract in March 2022.

His original big contract ended up averaging 21M over 3 years (2019 thru 2021).

The new 3-year contract:
Average 15M if cut after the 2nd year.
Average 13.3M if cut after the 3rd year.

He’s still good I think. Not an issue yet but after this season it’s probably time to part ways.

After this season he can be a June 1st casualty and the Cowboys free up $10MM and eat $10MM in cap space.

That seems to make it quite the toss up with the X factor simply being what his 2023 season looks like. As long as he is healthy and effective it's an easy call to let him play out his contract. If he can't stay on the field or shows regression it's pretty easy to move on.

I have always thought that he is a good player, but he is paid like a great player. Draft his replacement.

With the restructure they just did, you can pretty much assume barring a catastrophic injury that he’s here for at least the next 2 seasons.

If Nolan Smith or a top edge falls to us. You can pretty much consider this his last year. If Sam williams shows out as well. You can do the same. We will definitely miss his help in the run defense though. Really underrated in that regard.

quinn can "make something out of nothing" because guys like Tank are there already. He and Micah allow lesser guys to shine because of the work they're doing and attention they're receiving.
