Not a good idea. Not at all!
I'm sure if this went down, Phillips can sneak him the playbook, and a video tape of his duties in this scheme, and instructions on how his position is interpreted in this scheme - Basically he should be able to walk into practice when his suspension is over, and go straight to playing with no problems.superpunk;1653239 said:Tank Johnson said Monday night he expects to play for the Dallas Cowboys upon returning from his eight-game NFL suspension.
"I'm here to work some things out. I'm looking here for a fresh start," Johnson said when reached in his room at the hotel where the Cowboys stay before home games.
Earlier on Monday, a high-ranking team source said there have been lengthy discussions among members of the team's coaching staff and owner Jerry Jones about Johnson's off-field problems and his playing ability.
The Cowboys or any team would be able to sign Johnson during his suspension but he cannot work out or have contact with a team until he serves his suspension in its entirety.
Although Johnson has never played nose tackle, Phillips has extolled the flexibility of his 3-4 defensive scheme to accommodate players of different sizes and styles. The Cowboys lost starter Jason Ferguson for the season when the nose tackle suffered a torn right biceps tendon in Dallas' season-opening win against the Giants.
Johnson was waived by the Chicago Bears on June 25, three days after he was stopped by police in Arizona driving 40 mph in a 25-mph zone. Johnson was not charged with any crime. He was suspended by the league for violating probation on a gun charge that stemmed from a raid on his home. Johnson served a two-month jail term in the spring.

I stated months ago, that Ratliff should backup Ferguson at NT and eventually take over. He'll only get better with this early oppurtunity and will save us a high draft pick next year...mark my words. Also, I liked what I saw from Ayodele in preseason and I think he's a very good backup.
I'm happy with Ratliff...it's Spears that continues to piss me off.

hey we could always use another linemen with the crappy ones we already have. maybe he will do well in big Dcobra;1653995 said:I think some of our fans have over-valued Tank Johnson. Yeah, he was on a great Bears D-line. But the talent there wasn't Tank. The talent there was Tommie Harris. If we were going to be signing Tommie Harris, this would be a HUGE signing. Tank Johnson was just supporting cast. I'm not sure Tank is any better than Jay Ratliff. Just more known because of the fact he was on that Bears dominate defense (and his off-the-field issues). If Tank had been released by Kansas City, no one here would be clamouring for him.
