Despite the win last Sunday, I don’t think the Cowboys have to make an EFFORT to tank - and McCarthy wouldn’t allow it anyway. The Cowboys will probably move up the draft board via Darwinism and natural selection. They’re just a bad team… and with a lot of key injuries.

If your team quits, that's just bad mgmt. Not tanking.

Right, that's what I was trying to say. My initial post in this thread had nothing to do with management. I want a high draft pick. At that same time, I'm proud of the way the players performed against Washington.

Nope. It's a form of strategy.
Yeah, but it’s a strategy that’s not right, and you’ll never make me agree with you on this and that’s OK. You’re welcome to your opinion. I call it cheating. Getting something because you don’t playing so good is one thing. But getting something because you all right lose on purpose no

All teams employ this strategy. No one is telling the players not to try, that's not tanking. Trading away Herschel Walker was tanking.

Then all super bowl titles are tainted.

The world is not this honest gracious place filled w/ integrity that you're thinking.
Tom Brady and inflate gate. Wouldn’t want that on my back even though it’s not true. And Jimmy admit to cheating for draft picks to make the team better. Yes that’s tainted.

No trading Herschel Walker was smart. Refusing to play train players that you got was the cheating. Because now you got more players through the draft. Come on you know this you’re not stupid.

A lot of hope here for losing out to secure the highest possible draft pick. I can certainly see the reasoning for that and the potential value in it. Wouldn't bother me in the least if that is the way it plays out. It provides no guarantees, but it does bring at least some hope. The downside is, it also fosters a 'give up' attitude in the locker room. The goals can be come personally motivated. Stay healthy. Put good tape on the record. What's left to play for after that? Why play for the guy next to you in that situation?

Compare that to playing to win and scratching out a few more wins that could have easily gone the other way. For that to happen there has to be a strong desire to win coming out of the locker room, from everyone, every week. You can't draft, trade for, or buy that intangible. It germinates and grows organically. Teams either have it, or they don't. IMO it is one of the most significant factors in achieving great success. It doesn't come easy. It doesn't happen overnight. You can't turn it on and off. It can be built on season to season, once the seed sprouts.

You hold the magic wand. What do you choose? Full blown, bag wearing tankathon, or sacrificing draft position with a few unexpected and hard fought victories that galvanize the locker room and lights the fire of desire to keep taking the next step as a team towards reaching the top.

No guarantees either way. Advantages and disadvantages to both.
Nothing is guaranteed but one undeniable fact is the higher you pick the better chance of hitting on a player. I don’t want players to quit. But I’d be getting everyone snaps. You can’t lessen your chances of winning a meaningless game very easy

This exact scenario was a staple during the Garrett era. Everyone talked about how hard they played, yet won absolutely nothing. For a team that only utilizes the draft every year, that pick becomes more vital than a win when you have zero shot at any postseason success. It's become a vicious cycle here and there should definitely be a higher significance on that pick than these wins. Only then might we actually see a real change that we haven't seen in quite some time.

from 2000 to 2019 New England had FOUR top-20 picks (#6-2001, #13-2003, #10-2008, #17-2011) and SIX Super Bowl wins in 10 appearances

GM and coaching matter. Dallas is likely to have a new HC, OC, & DC next year

but Jerry still has the last word on every pick...so doesn't really matter if they draft high or not.

I get that the players and coaches will always want to win. But as an organization that has legitimately no chance at all of winning a championship, or likely even making the postseason, you have to look at what is actually best long term for the team.

A 8-9 season lands you somewhere in the later middle parts of the draft. Having a top 5 picks gives you a much better chance of landing that blue chip talent that your team needs, or if you are riddled with holes and have to have as many cheap players as possible because you've mangled the cap, you can trade that pick for a plethora of picks and try to reshape the future of your team.

One bad season can turn your team on a dime with a smart draft and a few quality free agents. There's a reason so many teams go from worst to first within a season or two.
dallas pretty much gave up their chance at a top 5 pick beating washington, at this point you’re holding out hope for a top 10 pick.

I am for running this season all the way off the cliff. In the ditch. It’s a high draft pick all the way for me.

You guys KNOW that we have hitched our wagon to a $60M per year average QB and Jerry doesn’t want to pay free agents. How could anyone NOT want to TANK with that in mind?
