I still think Dallas is 1 draft away from picking a QB. I'm not knocking Tanney I'm saying that I think Dallas at this juncture is happy with what they have and will look in the 2015 draft for a young promising QB

This is my thought as well. I ike Tanney but I do not think he is the one. My post was mainly to emphasize that age does not matter if the player has talent and can be coached to improve.

Doesn't mean squat. There's countless stories of players that were on 4 teams or more before they finally stuck.

You claimed he has "potential" what kind of potential are you talking about? There maybe countless stories of "players" that were on 4 or more teams before they finally stuck and secured a roster spot but I can't think of any QB's that have been looked at by 4 or more teams and went on to amount to anything special. Not even Kurt Warner was passed up by 4 different NFL teams early in his career. NFL teams are very careful when releasing a young QB especially after what happened with Kurt Warner. Teams take a good hard look at these QB's because the last thing they want to do is release one and have them go off and become the next Kurt Warner. The Packers looked at Warner in 94 but they had Favre and several other real good QB's unlike the current KC and Buffalo teams that looked at Tanney.

If you read my posts over the past few weeks I didn't see a whole lot in Tanney. A lot of FANS got caught up with his trick shot video and the one good preseason game he had vs AZ in which he was far from terrific. Some of the comments FANS made about Tanney after his performance vs AZ were pretty hilarious. I've said it many times there's not a fan base in the NFL that lives in the moment like Cowboys FANS. Tanney never had a passer rating higher than 88.9 during the preseason. He has the potential possibly of being a backup but that's the best he can hope for in the NFL.

I never watched his trick shot video. He's worth keeping on the PS for awhile.

He is not worth worrying about. There are QBs available every year in the 5th-7th rounds as good or better than Tanney. If he is ever the starting QB, the team will be in line for a top 3 pick and will take a franchise QB. He is not going to another team and setting the NFL on fire so nobody should be worried about him at all.

I think we can conclusively say that video was pretty much fake. Yeah, he made those throws but not in the fashion the video made it seem. He couldn't hit the goalpost from the 20 in practice so there's no way he did it in the video without a ton of chances and there is no way he made those five throws from 50 yards that were within 2 inches of each other all in a row. He probably threw the ball 20-30 times to get those 5 that close together. Nothing he has done in camp or in the games shows that he is that accurate with the ball.

A lot of FANS did watch it and read more into it than they should of. Well if you think he's worth putting on the practice squad for awhile then you obviously don't think he has much potential because another team could sign him off the practice squad.

I think Tanney has some potential. He needs to develop but he seems to understand the game. Situationally he doesn't seem to be lost. A little time getting a better feel for the defense and actually playing with some NFL quality players will probably do him some good.

I disagree that guys like him are a dime a dozen but I'll eat my crow as I didn't think they would try to get him on the PS thru waivers. Maybe the mental aspect of his game is not on par with the rest. Maybe they're too married to Romo and Orton to take up a roster spot at this time. I'll take my crow medium rare with a side of gravy. Put some Splenda and a little sweet soy sauce with some xiang gu mushrooms in the gravy. Thanks.

Not surprised. I think between this and Armstrong being cut, it opens the door for a fifth TE; Andre Smith.

Thanks for posting this, it saves me the time. Lol

I had previously been hoping Tanney would be retained in some manner, either the PS or active roster. After seeing his performance last night, it won't be difficult to accept his fate, no matter what it is. I had hoped he'd show better capability to respond to pressure somewhat better but he appeared to freeze too often when the pressure came. Then again, perhaps I've simply been spoiled by Romo's escapability. It's a tough act to follow, no doubt. In all fairness, though, the OL didn't do much of anything to render Tanney's job doable.

Hey, if all else fails, I'm pretty confident the Jets are going to be cutting Garrett's pet cat McElroy.

So much for those who wanted to trade/cut Orton for Tanney.

The season is screwed if Romo goes down. Tanney or Orton, it wouldn't make a difference other than the big money Orton is getting.

Most didn't think Tanney was a viable alternative to Orton but didn't think he'd get thru waivers. That's the only reason to take up a roster spot. If he gets thru waivers then hooray. But he can still be signed off the PS. Then again Dallas can put him on the roster if anyone really goes after him.

I have a question. If a team wants to claim someone off the PS of another team, do they have to cut someone off their active roster BEFORE claiming said player?
