Tanney Cut

A lot of FANS did watch it and read more into it than they should of. Well if you think he's worth putting on the practice squad for awhile then you obviously don't think he has much potential because another team could sign him off the practice squad.

Ok.

Most didn't think Tanney was a viable alternative to Orton but didn't think he'd get thru waivers. That's the only reason to take up a roster spot. If he gets thru waivers then hooray. But he can still be signed off the PS. Then again Dallas can put him on the roster if anyone really goes after him.

I have a question. If a team wants to claim someone off the PS of another team, do they have to cut someone off their active roster BEFORE claiming said player?

Not if they have room on their roster.

Then they must have room to sign a player off waivers or a PS beforehand??? It does make some difference if they must cut someone before signing. I don't know/

If the roster space is available , they can claim a player with no cuts. If not, somebody has to be cut right away to make room. That has always been my understanding.

He could be the Bills starter by the end of the week.

The season is screwed if Romo goes down. Tanney or Orton, it wouldn't make a difference other than the big money Orton is getting.

Just about every team in the league would be screwed if their starting QB goes down for all or most of the season especially if their starter is a top 10 QB. Orton has been a starting QB in the NFL he's much better than Tanney which is why he has a job with the Cowboys and Tanney doesn't. Orton's starting experience gives the Cowboys a chance if Romo goes down for a few games. If Orton had to take over for an injured Romo the situation won't be too big for him because he's been a starter. Old man Kitna was able to go 5-3 after Romo went down in 2010 with a team that wasn't nearly as talented as this team because he had a lot of starting experience. Tanney wouldn't stand a chance in a regular season game but Orton would give the Cowboys at least a chance to stay in the race until Romo returned.

Orton certainly isn't anything special but he has won some games in the NFL including a win over a 13-0 Packers team in 2011 that was being led by the league MVP Aaron Rodgers so I wouldn't sell him short if he's needed for a few games. If Romo goes down for more than 5 games then the Cowboys are probably done but the same goes for NE, GB, NO, The Giants and several other teams because there's going to be a huge drop off with their backups. It's hard finding a starting QB who can win games consistently much less a backup who can win games. You're just hoping your starting QB isn't out long and your backup can keep you in the hunt until your starter returns.

Tanney is Drew Henson or Chad Hutchinson which ever one you want to pick. He's just a dude people saw on the internet and pray that he can throw a ball through a basket. No more projects at QB. If you're serious about that position, act like it.

If Tanney were to come in, I don't know exactly what would happen. He might go on a surprise winning streak or he might lose every game.

If Orton comes in, I strongly suspect he'd go somehthing like 3-6, not good enough for playoff contention but just good enough to keep us out of the top 5 in the draft. Plus, we would pay him more to do that. Why?

Well, in fairness, Henson would have been a top 5 pick, had he entered the draft normally. But I agree wholeheartedly about no more projects at QB. If you draft a quarterback, go get the best one in the draft. If you bust, go do it again.

I still say he'll be on the level of matt Moore. Which means he's more valuable than the 53rd player.

but we will have to wait and see.

The next starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys will be suiting up for his Junior High football team this year.

That's how I was thinking it worked but I didn't know for certain. That could make it a tad more difficult for clubs to raid a PS. They'd have to cut one of their own. Thanks!

That's way overboard. You didn't hear media and others saying they were all that. And Tanney's only claim to fame was the record for TDs and his ability to throw trick passes. He certainly didn't play like they did. The naysayers immediately jumped on the *snicker* you want Tanney over Orton nonsense. Tanney's not ready to play and may never be. He doesn't belong in the Hutchinson bin just yet. Maybe he will be but he's got more than Hutch ever had and at least the same physical talent as Henson if not more. But he showed some traits that you're looking for some physical and more just how to play the position. And most here said he may never become a starting QB and needed to be developed.

The all or nothing thinking, emotional reasoning, and exaggerated responses on this site are.....well....interesting.

We need to get started on our "*Some-Variation-of-Suck* for Jameis Winston" slogans.
