Tapper has pars defect

It's not good, but it's certainly manageable. I don't anticipate Tapper playing anytime soon though. Hopefully there's not a spondylolisthesis, where an anterior slippage of the vertebral body occurs, which leads to instability and neurological symptoms. Assuming it's only spondylosis and not spondylolisthesis, they'll brace him in order to avoid extension movements (opposite of Romo), have him do stabilization exercises, and activity modification. However, with the amount of repetitive strain that's required for his line of work, this will most likely be a career and lifelong condition.

Exactly what I was about to say...

So what is exactly his status......is he done? Which it sounds like

Question! When the Cowboys bring someone in for a pre-draft visit, why not put them on the table and do a full body scan first thing?

Why do I get the feeling the Cowboys got the wool pulled over their eyes on draft day?

I'm not buying that Tapper didn't know of this condition.
It's not easily picked up by standard imaging techniques. It can essentially only be seen on an oblique view on a CT scan, which is not normally performed due to the amount of radiation involved.

nobody is saying this but I will,it looks like his career is in jeopardy.

My wife was just diagnosed with this with a simple xray, and then follow up MRI. The best course is an epidural, PT, and basic advil.
If that doesn't work, surgery is an option. This is very prevalent in teenagers in sports, particularly females.

I'm surprised he felt parylized since it is in the lower lumbar vertebrae area in which the spinal cord does not run, meaning no risk for being parylized.

My wife continues Camp Gladiator daily so Tapper needs to suck it up!

I wouldn't say that just yet. If he does his stabilization exercises and improves the "stiffness" of the surrounding musculature to his lumbar spine, then there's a good chance he can manage the condition, even as an NFL player.

Sounds like he believes he will play soon. It's weird a guy can play 4 years at an OU, go through Combine stuff basically start an NFL camp and not find out a back defect so late.

. The spine doc I went to last year said he could tell I broke my back some 30 years ago by the length of the bone spurs growing off my spine. Said it would take 3 decades for them to get that big.

Dude that's disgusting.

Well some studies show after about 2-6 months of bracing, he can show improvement. Now that is the average athlete, not a football player. The question is if this was just diagnosed or at the begin of of camp. My guess is he is done this year.

Bad luck?

Drafting injured and drug addicted players is not bad luck ........

Relying on a 36 year old QB with a twice broke back and a thrice broke collarbone is not bad luck ......

This is bad team management ........ luck has nothing do do with it.

Jerry Jones loves to spit into the wind and then acts surprised when his plastic face gets wet.

Yep. The fact that they weren't able to find something "since childhood" before drafting is huge. Signing and drafting 2 DE's with big off the field issues and NOT paying a guy that helped win a super bowl 2 years after he left....Management. My hatred for Jerry Jones grows year after year, to the point where I wish he'd just ******* die. "Gasp! Surely you don't mean that, do you?" .....I do.
