You inferred it was bizarre,,, what's bizarre about that?

Read it closer. I said the method at which they went about fixing one of their stated big needs was bizarre. It's bigger than just Tapper.

They claimed in Feb that pass rush was a problem and they had to fix it. 6 months later, as they head into August camp, they built a DE depth chart that included ONLY ONE PROVEN NFL DE, and he was a known 4 game suspension back in April. They had chances to sign some key vets early, they passed. They had a chance to grab a situational DE in Freeney that would have definitely helped the pass rush. They passed. They put faith in Randy Gregory knowing that was arguably one of the riskiest decisions they could have made. They signed a two time cast off and tried to sell him as this uber talented, diamond in the rough guy.

And here we sit, Week 3, and our DE depth chart is a mess. The rookie we were counting on is likely done for the season. The savior, that everyone keeps claiming will fix everything, Lawrence, apparently also has some sort of physical issue that Jerry claimed today will need monitoring. Let's also note he had surgery in February and it was reported at that time his back was worse off than they thought. So they had advanced info on this and still chose to do what they did at DE.

They have a 3 Tech in Irving trying to play DE. They just had to move Crawford back to DE. And at this point, the real hope at getting any production out of the DE spot now rests in the hands of a guy the Jags cut a few weeks ago.

So yeah, the front office's plan to fix their biggest need on defense according to them was beyond bizarre.

Is George Selvie available? How about Jeremy Mincey?

Not sure if serious, but Selvie is a free agent and Mincey has retired. Said he would have played for the Cowboys for one more year but they didn't make an offer.

Is D Law injured? Please advise.

Not "injured" but Jones said today that he has some physical limitation that they are monitoring. Given he had back surgery in February and it was reported his back injury was worse than thought, most people are assuming he's got some issue with his back again.

Again, just IR him at this point.

The DE position is a total cluster bomb and it all leads back to the front office and their bizarre method at addressing one of their stated biggest needs this offseason.
So injuries to DLaw and Tapper, along with suspensions are the fault of the front office? I'll admit I wish they'd done more, but suppose they'd drafted one of the DEs they targeted in round two or Even Noah Spense, would those injuries and lack of rookie production also be the fault of the front office?

Remember Lawrence had the same back surgery Romo had at the end of the 2013 season. Of course, he's a lot younger, but that's worrisome.

Okay, fine, but in the context of this thread I took your statement as being anti-Tapper, a player that could have successfully manned that DE spot.

Actually, in Lawrence's case, yeah.

Lawrence had back surgery in Feb and it was reported the back was worse off when they got in there. So the team had information that their top returning DE would be coming off back surgery. Now I suspect some smart front offices would have tried to insure themselves in that situation by adding some vet talent and depth. This front office did the exact opposite. They went with nothing but projects and retreads.

You can't blame them for Tapper (and by the way, I loved the Tapper pick) but you can absolutely blame them for the fact we sit here Week 4 and the defensive end position is in total flux and looks like it's going to be a major, major problem the entire season. Which is even more damning when you take into account Jones SAID BACK IN FEBRUARY, the pass rush was something that definitely needed fixing as it wasn't good enough in 2015.

To be fair, nobody knew Tapper had what's called a "Pars Defect" until his back locked up on him at camp. It was a condition he was born with and it wasn't discovered until the Cowboys did an MRI. Tapper said he had a couple spasms at Oklahoma but it was never a problem for him previously.

So he admitted having a history of spasms and Dallas shouldn't be blamed for not performing an MRI which could've easily detected this issue?

Nothing I said would lead someone to think I was being anti-Tapper.

I was being anti-front office. They botched the defensive end position this offseason. Some bad luck (Tapper), some stupidity (banking on Gregory), some lack of foresight (understanding Lawrence would be coming off major back surgery), some cheapness (letting some solid, but admittedly unspectacular vet DEs sign elsewhere).
