Tattoos!

Trying a new forum Sorry if there is already a similar thread, I did a quick scan and didn't see one but I imagine there's one out there somewhere, please post link if there is.

I love tattoos, good ones, bad ones, patriotic, evil, black and gray, traditional, you name it. Many tattoos are personal so I would hope no one makes any negative comments unless the OP says somethimg themselves (I have some "badass" ****** vintage 90's tribal) but I'd love to see what you guys/gals have and if there are any stories behind them you're willing to share. I'd also like to know what styles you like, favorite artists with links provided if possible, etc. Whatever is tattoo related I'd love to hear and see about them.

Here's my latest, just a classic traditional eagle with "Hang strong, Roll on" which is what DimeBag Darrell signed for me, along with his autograph, when my friends ran into him at a bar in the late 90's. It's a motto that I constantly remind myself of and I think goes perfect with the style.

Very cool and despite our "disagreements" in the past and future, thanks for serving. Sounds like each one has some sort of personal meaning. It also sounds like you're pretty covered up, any room left or plans for others?

Also, in reference to the one you did yourself, is tattooing something you ever did or do on a regular basis?

I have all sorts of room. My idea when I first started was to go the route of Dave Navarro, pre-2000, with a cluster of tattoos, but no sleeves. It's kind of what I have now.

I have plans for others, but right now all of that is on the back burner, Aria.

As for the tattoos I did myself (the skull and crossbones, upside down heart, and "chicken scratch"), it was a one time thing. I was on a lot of drugs and one of my best friend's little brother has a gun. I was like, "hey, cool, I can give myself tattoos and they'll be free."

I actually covered up a Tibetan cloud he had on his leg with a solid black Tibetan tribal cloud. No experience. And it came out decent, albeit some infection, as I used a somewhat heavy hand. We went over it again about 3 weeks later and it looks pretty damned good to this day. He has, in fact, asked me to do more.

That's it for personal tattoo experience.

I get what ya mean about the sleeves. I'm almost done with my second sleeve, just need some touch ups, and one calf (including the front and sides) are a solid tattoo. I'm saving my other calf and thigh for a cluster of smaller images that may be random or have personal meaning. It also gives me an opportunity to get different styles but I'm leaning heavily towards a good percentage being traditional and/or neo traditional.

Sounds like you could have a future in tattooing!

Not a very popular forum, here's one of my favorite artists for photo realism, specifically movie characters. Google his name and hit images also shows a lot of his work.

Just noticed, scroll down a bit on the instagram link and The Rock is getting his classic skull covered up! I'm not sure how I feel about that . The video is pretty cool though and ironically enough, there's a tattoo of The Rock in Hercules not too far above the video.

I have had a few tattoos in my head for years but have yet to get them down on paper. Some are fairly involved and would be crazy expensive to get them done.

Im a fan of sleeves and would really like to get at least one.

My problem is I work in an office and I don't want to be forced to wear long sleeve shirts everyday. I'm the guy that's always hot so I prefer to wear short sleeve polos everyday.

I've considered a 1/4 sleeve because it's still covered up with a short sleeve polo but haven't pulled the trigger.

I understand what ya mean but my situation is a little different. Our old chief had a no visible tattoo policy which was ridiculous because more people would ask why we're wearing long sleeves outside in the middle of summer then they would say something about a tattoo.

Our new chief doesn't make us cover them up but I still wear long sleeves during training or calls we go on outside (ie car wrecks, gas leaks, etc) because the sun eats ink up and it's not worth f'in them up. I also have the benefit of wearing a uniform that is paid for so I don't have to buy an entire new wardrobe just to go to work.

If you really want a sleeve and it's something that means a lot to you then if I were you, ****, get it and deal with the long sleeves. You're not getting any younger.

Or...go with a quarter sleeve, like you mentioned, but find an artist, design and style that would allow you to add to it in the future where it will still look cohesive.

Hmmmm...not criticizing you at all so please don't take it that way but a full sleeve (if you go that route) is a pretty big and expensive commitment. Maybe 1/4th would be best but as I said, just my opinion, but if you think you may want a full congruent sleeve at some point I would start off with a "theme" that you like or means something to you and then find a style that fits that theme well. Then do lots and lots of research to find an artist that specializes in that style who you like and is consistent.

Everyone has their own opinion and price range but I'll be more than happy to help you out if you ever get to that point. I've literally spents hours/days/years to find my artists and flown across the country but I understand that's not everyones cup of tea and from 10 feet away the quality isn't as noticeable as if I were to get one locally. But I have a touch of OCD so I pay close attention to line work, shading, etc that most people may not even notice.

Another option is go the Trouty route, instead of one solid sleeve, get clusters of smaller images to take up your arm. There's lots of advantages to that as well, I'm gonna do that with my right leg....eventually.
