Let’s leave the personal insults out of here. This isn’t an eagles forum.
Georgia, behind riding a backup quarterback, the momentum from a daring fake punt and a wave of Texas penalties held off the Longhorns 22-19 to win the championship. Penalties can still turn games. Not prepaed for a surprise can turn a game as well ... football.

Can you tell us the story about the Boy and Girl Scouts also? Do they play football?
I know about The Order of Arrow and the local Karankawa Lodge. You can tell all about Girl Scouts....now grow up and tell all about the Cav Scouts Out.

I'm not about to start crying when plenty can still be used already on the plate of Dallas. Prove that wrong without use of personal insult. There are various made up basis that have to be walked through, not proven by griping. Cry baby isn't what this fan learned through life. Insult as a social stance will be thrown right back.

I don't bend my knee to insults from who amount to little back yard bully cry babies. I paid to have the opinions about football. Respect is still an element in what I see...

How creative, insult by poetry...

A warrior's focus but you were tripped up by lost focus.
Weapon....45 cal pistol and kills.
Gun ,,, shoots joy and kills joy as a result.

A lot of football history is lost using your guns  No, not boxing. Boxing was a required sport at the Academy. I was required to box heavy weight, unlimited, because I was a linebacker. Sorry that isn't a wrongly cherished stat.

Know what used by a military guard for an air field? In the Cav, a 12 gauge. We played football in service as well.
RAT fighting...I'm glad I don't do that anymore.

I was just having some fun. No insult intended. You had shared a rhyme so I did too. Just having a hard time following your points.

As former Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells famously once said, “You are what your record says you are.” The Cowboys are 5-7, 3rd in the NFC East and by a thread still mathematically in the playoff race, but they have a putrid -91 point differential. I’m not one who sees this team as anything beyond a below average team. And the team‘s stats bear that out.

As we all know, stats can tell us a lot but can also mislead. But looking at the Cowboys through 12 games, these team stats seem to be a fairly accurate tale of what this team is. Here are the offensive and defensive TEAM stats and how they rank in the NFL this year:

OFFENSE
  • Total yards per game: 322 yards per game. Ranked 22nd.
  • Total points per game: 20.7 Ppg. Ranked 21st.
  • Passing yards per game: 236 yards per game. Ranked 12th.
  • Rushing yards per game: 86 yards per game. Ranked 31st.
  • 3rd down conversions: 35.44%. Ranked 24th.
  • Time of possession: 28:48. Ranked 29th.
  • Turnover differential: -7. Ranked 27th.
  • Point differential: -91. Ranked 27th.
DEFENSE
  • Total yards per game: 360 yards per game. Ranked 26th.
  • Total allowed points per game: 28.3 ppg. Ranked 29th.
  • Passing yards per game: 212 yards per game. Ranked 13th.
  • Rushing yards per game: 148 yards per game. Ranked 31st.
  • 3rd down conversion rate: 34.88 %. Ranked 6th. (Surprising. But it also shows that teams are making big plays on 1st and 2nd down)
  • Time of possession: 31:12. Ranked 29th.
  • Interceptions: 9. Ranked 12th.
  • Sacks: 33. Ranked 10th.
It’s fairly clear this is a team with problems on both sides of the ball. But it is also more accurate to say this team’s defense (when healthy) is better than the offense. And while the defense STILL has major problems stopping the run, its sack and interception numbers are above average. To me the message is clear: This offense is really bad. Averaging 20 points a game will get you beat most of the time.
Devastating picture of the downfall of a once-competitive team.

Detroit's injuries are primarily to the defense. Dallas has had their injuries spread out amongst defense and offense
+1 and I think only one or two were starters. I just did a thread ......I think the Cowboys and 49ers have had the most starters miss games so far this season.

Marist Liufau

Third Round
Liufau played in only eight snaps on defense last week. What was interesting, however, was how he being deployed. He played more as an outside linebacker, either in coverage or used as an extra rusher on the outside. He managed to force Drew Lock into two hurries last week, adding to the pressure he was under during Thanksgiving. The way this Bengals offense plays, Liufau could return to that style of utilization or be made to play in coverage where he’s done better this year.

Cooper Beebe
Third Round
Beebe had some trouble establishing blocks in the run game last week. He should find an easier day this week as he heads up against a defensive line that struggles against the run and is 31st in total sacks this year. With the majority of the Bengals limited pass rush coming from around the edge, Beebe is facing a relatively easy day in pass blocking. That means his efforts can be more concentrated on getting his run blocking perfected.

Marshawn Kneeland

Second Round
Kneeland didn’t play last week after getting some reps the game before. It’s unknown whether he will suit up so watch the inactive list on game day. When available and healthy, he provides a solid rotation piece on defense.

Brevyn Spann-Ford

UDFA
Last week saw Ford play over 30 snaps on offense as the TE2. He was used mostly as an extra run blocker and was targeted zero times in the passing game. Luke Schoonmaker took the targets at tight end. This week we should see the return of Jake Ferguson, which could change things for the group. Other than that, Ford will keep his dual role on special teams where he’s proving to be a standout player there.

(Now let's just see some of the future)

Not really that's not an excuse those are facts app absolutely you are on the wrong side of this argument they're not trying to make excuses but the reason we have been worse the reasons we could have been better was because of injuries therefore it's not an excuse it's a fact it's a statement of fact the Dallas Cowboys would have been better had they not had all these injuries the San Francisco 49ers would have been better this year had it not been for major injuries if you can't say that without it sounded like an excuse that's on you literally it's the real reasons why teams struggle is when they lose not only their starters but they lose the depth behind those starters it's impossible in any sport to make up for that there's no way to do it especially in football with a hard cap you might be able to cover that up in baseball because you can buy so muchlike LA and NY do but no one's trying to make excuses they're stating facts the Cowboys season was derailed in 2020 why a rash of injuries it's called attrition when you're losing a lot of your best players and their backups it's hard to function as a coaching staff you literally are asking third string players to play against first stringers when you go into games and that is not an excuse that is an almost an impossibility you can occasionally step up like we did in the Washington game but on a consistent basis you're going to lose when you lose that many players this isn't losing one or two players this is losing like 18 different players some of them multiple times and some for multiple weeks it happens and few Out for the season.

Whenever someone brings it up and you come back with oh you can't say it's an excuse no we're going to say it's a statement of fact literally teams do not get better when they lose their starters that's a fact a handful of starters you might be able to cover that up but you aren't covering up what's happened to the Cowboys which is far worse than I think anybody in the league right now if you count every player and what they meant to this team I mean I know San Francisco has lost quite a few but most of the teams right now that are upright and considered the top teams they're also winning attrition...
San Francisco would have been better; Dallas, not so sure. They stink and the stench has permeated the fanbase.

The current fate of this version of the Cowboys is largely a result of the FO to see fit to do nothing to help this team in the offseason. They have nothing to blame but themselves for allowing that to happen. Using injuries this season was a predictable excuse, but a pretty lame one, too.

So here and now you support Syria and are non-commital on Russia...right? Jerry owns the team and I'm still watching roles of just drafted or signed players.

The receiver group isn't a nursing home hanging on. Sorry, am not buying into just surrender, Cowboys.

Serious question. If you start the season with a functional offensive line like we have seen the last few weeks & an above average QB

1) what do you think our record is?

2) Do the stats say below average, average or above average?

Here is what this fan is paying attention to and not Puff the Magic Dragon in a football setting...

https://www.nfl.com/news/2024-nfl-s...ngs-to-watch-for-bengals-cowboys-monday-night

The Cowboys, who lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott earlier this season to a hamstring injury, nevertheless are riding a two-game win streak behind Cooper Rush. The Bengals, in contrast, have lost four of their last five, including last week's divisional defeat to the Steelers in a barnburner of a game.

Dallas D trying to build on last week against No. 1 offense. The Cowboys have dealt with their own defensive woes this season, actually ranking just above the Bengals in points allowed by giving up 28.3 points per game, tied for 29th in the league. However, Dallas’ most recent performance could be a signal of better things on the horizon. The Cowboys held the Giants to 247 yards and 20 points on Thanksgiving, the first time they’ve limited an opponent to fewer than 21 points since Week 5. They had six sacks -- led by Micah Parsons' 1.5 takedowns -- and two takeaways, including Demarvion Overshown’s 23-yard pick-six. That was the Drew Lock-captained Giants, of course, and this week they’ll be trying to replicate that success against Joe Burrow, which is a whole different ball game. But the Cowboys will be hoping the possible return of some key players could help in this endeavor. Cornerback Trevon Diggs (questionable; knee) hasn’t played the last two weeks, but he’s participated in a limited capacity in each of this week’s practices, leaving the door open for him to return this week. If he does, it will be the first time that Diggs and cornerback DaRon Bland take the field together this season, as the latter returned two weeks ago from a foot injury that had sidelined him since August.

Storylines aplenty for star wideouts. With the passing attack standing as the strength of each team’s offense -- the Bengals rank No. 1 and the Cowboys No. 7 in passing yards -- you can expect all eyes to be on the teams’ star receivers this week.

Ground game a struggle on both sides. While stars at the top of their game are the story for each team’s passing offense, the running games, in comparison, have been a letdown. The Bengals and Cowboys rank 27th and 31st, respectively, in rushing yards per game, making this a possible area for separation between two otherwise potent offenses.

Before anyone chimes in with the injury excuse, what were the rankings before the injuries started piling up? My guess is they were very similar, maybe even worse.
Right. This wasn’t going to be a very good offense with everyone healthy.

No running game without a legit starting RB. No legit 2nd WR. And rookies starting on OL unproven . Holes and question marks throughout.

But that 7 point difference per game adds up and is critical. All NFL teams have an occasional bad game offensively but in our case we never seem capable of an offensive breakout game where the offense racks up points in bunches. We just don’t have the weapons even when healthy.

Averaging only about 20 pts per game in today’s NFL makes you a non-playoff team.
