Teams who may take Austin for a 2nd?

Obviously the Dolphins have been listed as a team who might be willing to take Austin for a 2nd rounder. What other teams might be in the mix?

It looks like that the Dolphins have TWO selections in the second. Pick #44 from the Commanders and their own pick at #56. This gives them the ability to take Austin in the 2nd with their own pick and still have an even higher #2 (#44 overall) from the Commanders.

I would hate to lose Austin, but getting this pick would probably enable us to get two preferred players in return for losing him. It would be very easy for us to package a few late round picks to move up slightly higher in the 2nd (with our 2nd and the Dolphins 2nd) and get two early 2nd round picks, getting two potential impact players (Duke Robinson, Ron Brace, Sean Smith?) or possibly another coveted player if they slide.

I like all this Sean Smith love...keep it up guys

But I'm not sure if I want to lose Austin yet. I'd maybe take the Commanders 2nd rounder but not the Dolphins. It just isn't worth it.

I'm not for or against Smith or Brace at this time, I was just using him as an example. Duke Robinson would seem to be the least risky pick of the 3.

Honestly, Austin is a good wr, but not worth losing out on a second rounder. Besides, with all the vet wrs available in fa, this would the best time someone could come knocking for Austin... even though I don't see it happening.

Pick compensation for a tendered free agent is the team's own pick in according round.

In other words, we would get Miami's pick and would not have a choice on the matter. With all the vet WRs getting released, I find it hard to believe that Miami gives up a 2 for Austin.

Of course I will take it!!!

I could see several teams with late 2nd rd choices willing to part with their 2nd for Austin. Maybe Miami, but teams like the Titans & Jets also come to mind.

Those that think losing Austin and getting a late 2nd rd pick back in return arnt being very smart. And they will be the first one's that complain if Austin does get away and then catches 60 balls for 1000 yds and 7 or 8 tds. If he continues to work hard he can definitely be a #2 for alot of teams. I'd prefer it be here. I'd rather have Austin than TO at this stage.

Not only has Austin shown that he can develop as a real threat receiver, he can also return kicks or punts and go a long way with the rock.

What has Miles done to warrant a team giving up a second and signing him to a starter's contract? Nothing.

Austin won't even get a sniff from any team now! Noone is giving up a 2nd round pick for a WR who really hasn't done anything in 3 years in the league. At most, I can see Parcells and Ireland making a lame attempt to trade for him but thats about it.

Miami got a 2nd and a 7th for Welker from New England... Not saying that Austin is like Welker but teams do pay a premium for young talented WR's..

Don't be so sure of that. Austin being only 24, a speedster, AND 6'3 216lbs tied to the fact that film clearly shows him to be turning a cornor as a WR. A second round pick doesn't look all that bad. All someone has to do is offer him $2M a year. As noted, Miami has two second round picks and the one they give up is the lower of the two picks. They know Austin personally and know what type of kid he is and what he has in the tank. I think there is a VERY real chance that Miami goes after him and could even posion pill the deal.

The question is, if Miami is willing would they offer enough cash to make Austin want to walk away from the Cowboys.

If I was going to draft a unknown WR in the second round, I think I would go after Austin first.

Agree completely. Another characteristic of when Jerry was running things was the giving up on young players in favor of holding on to vets too long. I'm telling you Austin is a definite number 2 easily in this league with great size, good hands and great speed. Good character guy too.

At the one position where it is so hard to draft and get real production and talent? I'm positive this guy will have several teams willing to give up a 2nd.

Austin Miles is young with high potential. Furthermore, he has proven to be a decent option as a kick returner and is pretty good in kick off coverage. Parcell's is a fan of these types of player and with two in the 2nd round I would not be suprised if they made a move for him. At this stage of the game, speed typically cannot be improved and the Cowboy's don't have the cap room to land a receiver that, in my opinion, replaces him completely.

Or course, we do have pressing needs, and I've said myself I would like to see the Cowboys make a play for, at least, another 2nd rounder to shore up some of the vacancies we may have as a result of Canty, Zach, Tank, and Burnett leaving through Free Agency and the likelyhood of Roy Williams (SS) and Brad Johnson being cut.

On the other hand, this draft has some interesting prospects that may still be available deep in the draft to do just that, considering the amount of Draft Picks the Cowboy's have overall. With a few teams converting to the 3-4, I can see quite a few of the projected high draft picks sliding as teams attempt to draft players that fit the 3-4 mold. Furthermore, there are quite a few players who underperformed at the combine, and will slide.

What opportunities has Miles had? I've seen great production on KOs including taking it to the house in a playoff game, great burst and good hands. I've seen increasing production with the opportunities he's received as a receiver.

For a 2nd round draft pick? Please. No debate. And starters money for a WR isn't unmanageable by any means.

This makes me sick! We do all the grooming and somebody can just come swoop him up when he's about to turn the corner?

He has a lot of value. Kick returner, special teams gunner, and wideout.

I'll take him over any 2nd rounder that's unproven.....especially with this vanilla draft class!

I'd gladly give up Austin for a #2 that gives us a shot at a quality Safety and a NT or OL player that we'd like to have.
