Tebow jersey is No. 1 in the league

July 07, 2010, 04:20 PM EST
by Aaron Wilson

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Tim Tebow already ranks first in the NFL in a popular category: No. 1 in jersey sales.

Between April 1 to June 30, the first-round draft pick from the University of Florida had more jerseys sold than any other player through NFLShop.com, according to CNBC.com.

Tebow ranks ahead of Washington Commanders quarterback Donovan McNabb, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre.

Other rookies ranking in the top 20: Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh (8th), St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford (9th), Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant (15th) and Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Eric Berry (18th).

I reckon he's a sports and cultural god to the ultra religions. That equals $$ just like anything that appeals to a large group of people. You also have to factor in that every broncos fan has to replace their Crapler and Marshall jerseys with something.

I guess you're right, but I'm still surprised at the popularity.

The NFL wants Tebow to succeed especially with the negative pub it gets from the players getting arrested and what not

Word.

In time if he becomes a decent QB people will be having their kids baptized while wearing his jersey.

I think Tebow is more popular to the casual football fan than a lot of you all think, regardless of religion.

Sure, internet message board posters that dissect every single decimal point on stats hate him and think he's garbage, but to the random folks that just care about the NFL on Sundays and only from September to February, I'm sure it's completely different.

Wow. For whatever reason, ppl just like this guy. I think he's got a career in politics in about 2 years when everybody realizes he has no business playing in the NFL.

There are a TON of Gators fans in the south. They all became Broncos "fans"/supporters for Tebow.

I'm rooting for the guy. He's done nothing wrong himself yet I know people who have blind, seething hate for him. He's a leader, he's a winner, and he's a class act. I've met him on several occassions. He has a ton of charisma.

Hope he does well just so I can hear the sound of panties twisting across the country.

It's due to a combination of factors IMO.

He's been the most popular college football player for 2 years running now. It's only natural that that popularity will follow him to the pros.

The nature of his position. He's a QB, and it looks like the top 6 jersey sellers are all QBs too. Everyone looks to the QB in football.

It's also due to socio-economic factors. Whites make up a majority of the population, so it's not a stretch to think that they also make up the majority of football enthusiasts. Also notice how 5 of the of the top 6 sellers are white.

Insane. Go look up overall jersey sales and count white vs. black players. Let's not pull out the race card.

Give him his due. He has done nothing wrong. He played well in college.

He reminds me of Staubach a little. He's a great leader, plays with heart, loves the game, is a student of the game, and is an all-around nice guy.

Why the hate? I don't get it.

He reminds me of Romo.

Albeit a less-polished passer.

Didn't say he was perfect. I'm just saying that those that are rooting against him have no real reasoning for doing so.

C'mon you have to understand the power and purity of Tebow. When he cried on the field at the SEC championship game, roses grew from the tear drops that hit the ground.
