Didn't say he was perfect. I'm just saying that those that are rooting against him have no real reasoning for doing so.

I think people dislike him for being a cry-baby and being perceived as "holier than thou".

He openly promotes his religion and I don't see the problem with that, but b/c of that he gets a ton of attention. With that, you'll get tons of haters as well. That is natural.

The issue I have with him: People praise him for being such a great leader. He lost 2 games in his career, and he cried during the game both times. If I'm on his team and I look over and see him crying with 2 minutes left in the game, I'm feeling hopeless at that point. I want to look over and see a face of determination, not frustration. I see him as a great leader while winning, but he isn't gonna win his whole life, your going to have bad years. I don't see him as a leader through the bad times. It's one thing to cry AFTER the game, but during the game?

I do see the Romo comparison. Seems like a really laid back, genuinely friendly guy.

It's due to a combination of factors IMO.

He's been the most popular college football player for 2 years running now. It's only natural that that popularity will follow him to the pros.

The nature of his position. He's a QB, and it looks like the top 6 jersey sellers are all QBs too. Everyone looks to the QB in football.

It's also due to socio-economic factors. Whites make up a majority of the population, so it's not a stretch to think that they also make up the majority of football enthusiasts. Also notice how 5 of the of the top 6 sellers are white.

Interesting. BUT to your second factor...the top 6 sellers are all QBs' jerseys. Only McNabb is black. Most staring QBs in the NLF are white (right or wrong). So it this about people demanding white players' jerseys more or QBs' jerseys more?

I would argiue that it's more about the QB position. If McNabb's jersey was not among the top sellers/QBs then I might lean more towards the socio-economic argument you raised.

And by the way, unlike others who accused you of pulling the race card, I disagree. While your socio-economic argument was about race, in no way was it racist which is what "pulling the race card" implies. But like I said, I think these sales have less to do with race and more to do with the players being QBs.

C'mon you have to understand the power and purity of Tebow. When he cried on the field at the SEC championship game, roses grew from the tear drops that hit the ground.

Tebow's roses are being watered by NFL marketing dollars. A lot if "investment" and "promotion" dollars are being pumped into pushig his early jersey sales.

And the Broncos/NFL are smart to do this now to maximize early sales of his jersey, before he has to actually take the field and run the risk of turning Cinderella back into a pumpkin.

I remember a distraught Michael Irvin crying on the sidelines as the season came to an end, I believe in 1998. Were any of you criticizing him then?

In 2 years, you'll be able to buy one of these bad boys at your local K-Mart for about 10 dollars.

I will be buying my Dez Bryant jersey to counter this foolishness of Tebow being number one lol

My initial post was sarcastic because I think Tebow as a QB is garbage. His dedication to his faith might make him appear to be the purest person to hit the NFL in a long time. There's something behind the scenes going on with this guy, I'm just waiting. I understand the huge fan following coming out of college because he comes off as a great human being. But, this whole Tebow walking on water stuff and the whole "you're life is better if you spend 10 mins with him" stuff has got to stop.

Chocolate Lab....that video makes me snicker.

There are a TON of Gators fans in the south. They all became Broncos "fans"/supporters for Tebow.

This.

I've actually noticed that most gator fans aren't NFL fans. You never see a Bucs helmet next to a Gators helmet on the back windshield. It's all Gators, everywhere. And now that their golden boy is a Bronco, they are all "Bronco fans".

I'm a diehard gator fan, but will not purchase a tebow jersey because I'm a cowboys fan. This guy has been the face of college football for past 3 years. He's said and done all the right things and he's a winner. He put the team first during his four years at the university of florida. Goodell is dying for the guy to be the face of the league. It's not suprising at all he leads rookies in jersey sales.

If he does well in Denver they way things are now you have to give it up for him. But with all this hype he will more then likely end up along the lines of Reggie Bush, being on a Superbowl winning team and nailing a Kardashian.....wait..........that didn't come out right. I mean being decent but not a star. At least he didn't join the talent vacuum that is da Raidahs.

I'm rooting for the guy. He's done nothing wrong himself yet I know people who have blind, seething hate for him. He's a leader, he's a winner, and he's a class act. I've met him on several occassions. He has a ton of charisma.

Hope he does well just so I can hear the sound of panties twisting across the country.

Same here! I think my fandom for him really grew when I saw that BSPN Chucky special that included Tebow, Bradford, McCoy, and Claussen. His whole attitude towards the odds of getting drafted was pretty cool... The work he did to improve his arm motion was pretty cool too. You have to have some level of inherent talent to hasten your throwing mechanics while retaining your accuracy. Then to see him get drafted high by Denver... that was a big **** you to all of his detractors. I hope he comes out and lights up the scoreboard in Denver.

He leads ALL players in jersey sales. It's surprising to me, but several posters have given compelling reasons why this might be.
