Technically we're picking 9th

Guys we want will be pushed down the board due to us not targeting certain positions.. This happens every draft. I got your point and many others did. It's a good discussion. It helps you plan your likely scenarios and not waste time on deciding what to do if Luck is there because he won't be.

Some people will slide so you have to gameplan what you do if someone you like but didn't expect out of the top 10 slides to 12. You also have to be ready to see someone trade in front of you and ruin your day.

Luck, Claiborne, RG III, Blackmon and Kalil are top 10 locks They are on our board, but we aren't looking at scebarios where they slide.

Other guys we have to do scenarios on.... If Richardson slides to us do we take him, try to take advantage and get someone to tradeup for him or just take our guy.

it makes it easier for our guys to prepare for the draft.

I think it would be a good year to trade back if the value is there.

I disagree... I think this is a good year to move up! We have one of the top 10 QB's in NFL despite widespread public opinion. I like what Atlanta did last year. Our window of operatunity is right now with Romo. We are close to being able to get a world Class/Blue chip prospect... It is by far much cheaper to get great players in the draft rather than shell out mega bucks thru FA. I think we should try to get into the top 10. I would take either Poe, Melvin Ingram, or Richardson... I don't know why many of us feel that a RB is out of the question. The honest truth is that we don't have a back on the roster that has proven the ability to stay healthy. If Murray had not had durabilty concerns at OU he wouldn't have fallen to round 3. Felix wasn't even the bell cow at Arkansas... But we expect him to be just that in the pros. Lets get a great player who is likely to be a top 5 player at his position.

Yes... Take him. We passed on Rashard Mendenhall because we had MBIII. It was stupid then, Its still stupid to pass on good players now! Always take the best player available reguardless of position.

I think you are making some pretty good points kowboyMarlon.

However, the way the contracts are set up lets say Andrew Luck fell to 14. The Cowboys would indeed have to draft him, and pay him. And then probably move someone else to another team, or to the waiver wire because of the guaranteed money. Good thing is with this new CBA you can move one of those first round picks, much easier.

I will say that BPA only works if you have cap money, lock up your good depth players cheaper, and actually could use that player. Some thinking that there would be no need for a RB are silly, in that case the Cowboys would be stupid not to take Trent if available.

It didn't work for Detroit in the past, the Raiders, Vikings, or Cardinals to name a few.

I understand what you are saying, but for those players.. we may as well stay at 14. One of them will be available when we pick there if that's who we think is the BPA, imo.

I think its a good draft to trade down and aquire another high round pick because its a very deep draft for the positions we need the most. If we could move down a few spots and pick up another second rounder or even a late first, we'd be in a great spot. We still have alot of holes to fill.

I'm sorry But there is no way in the world that you can depend on getting Poe, Ingram or Richardson at #14 overall in this draft. All 3 are likely top 10 picks... Even if only 2 are top 10... All 3 will be gone by pick 14.

I don't think Poe is as highly regarded as you do i guess. I've seen him from top 10 in some circles to late first round pick. I think he'll go somewhere in the teens.

Coples is a top 10 lock also. No way a 6'5" 285lbs pass rushing 4-3 end falls out of the top 10 with the senior bowl and combine he had.

If richardson does fall to 14 then i hope a team desperate for playmakers, like the browns, call to trade. Would like to have there picks at 22 and 37
The trade would have to be our 1st and 3rd for their 1st and 2nd.
If the right players fall, I could do that. But you don't want to drop so low that you fall another tier. And all the way to 22 would probably do that.

If they had a player they were targeting at that spot, i doubt we'd have to give up our 3rd. I know according to the trade value chart that would have to be thrown in to make it even, but if they are looking to move up, we have the leverage and they are the ones that need to find a partner to get their guy.

Ok, good point, maybe we get the better end of it.

So maybe our 1st and 4th (or 5th?) for their 1st and 2nd. The value would be way of whack if they didn't get something. Most would say it would be our 3rd, but we could get lucky and only have to part with a 4th.

It would only be 200 off if we didn't give up anything. I think if they had a player that dropped and they desperately wanted to move up to get him, i can def see them giving up their 22 and 37 just to move up.
