Temper expectations

The same thing was said by the team and the fans about the Saints game, and after the Cowboys won easily, the Saints suddenly aren't very good. Even if the Cowboys beat the Seahawks, people will say the Seahawks are not as good as last year.

Personally, I don't care. I hope we play the worst team in the league every week if it means a win because all that matters is winning games. Teams are judged by what they do or don't do in the playoffs, but you have to get to the playoffs first and you do that by winning as many games as you can during the season. It doesn't matter how easy/hard the games are as long as you win enough of them. If the Cowboys lose to the Seahawks by 30 points or 1 point, it's all the same to me because it's a loss, which in the end, is all that counts or matters.

I just don't agree with the logic that losing by 1 point or losing by 30 points is the same thing. Yes, the L counts the same but it is all the intangibles that you cant quantify that come into play.

If you play the defending world champions in their home stadium and you lose by 1 single point...................your entire psyche is totally different going forward. Like I said, when the Giants lost by just a couple of points to the undefeated Patriots back in the day it showed them that they did belong on the same field as the Patriots and that confidence lead them through the playoffs and in their rematch in the SB with them.

If Dallas loses by 30 points tomorrow, they do not belong on the same field with the Seahawks and the team, coaches, fans, and even ownership will know it. So it does matter when it comes to the intangibles, which by the way is what is pointed to when it comes to Garrett. Folks say the intangibles like attention to detail, professionalism, culture change, being your best every day, ect....are all signs that he and his program are turning the team around even though the results have not been there.

So yes, if you want to go by just pure results of win vs. loses then losing by 30 points is the same as losing by 1 point and Garrett and Campo are equal in coaching ability since neither coach has ever seen the playoffs. But if you want to include the intangibles, then you can make a distinction, that is my point.

Well, to be honest, Garrett can give the most emotional Vince Lombardi speech in his life, but the players are the ones that have to execute on the field. Garret is not on the field. So, I don't understand your mistrust.

Not talking about speeches....I'm talking about putting your players in the best possible position on every play and making the right decisions before and during the game. If you don't think coaching is extremely important in the NFL then I don't know what to tell you....

There is no "trusting" involved. The Saints are #2 in offensive yards. Indy is #1.

Yardage is the same metric used to ranking the Cowboys defense last in 2013.

And the media pundits readily pounced on that fact because that is the easiest way they know to quantify how good or bad a team is. The Cowboys defense was not last the entire year...only with time and injuries did it settle to its worse point. FO had Dallas as the 30th ranked defense at the end of last year. Only San Diego and Green Bay were worse. 30 is pretty close to 32. Either way, the Saints are not what they have been. They are not as prolific against good defenses as they once were. They are suffering from delusions currently, as are their fans. They lit up Atlanta, Tampa...two not great defenses. All other wins saw them scoring 24 points or less...they only scored 20 at home, which is stupefying, considering their home field advantage. There offense has less speed and versatility than it once did.

Temper expectations? Nah, I don't think so. I expect us to go to Seattle and ride that big strong aggressive nasty oline to another victory. That's exactly what I expect.

It was 4. And SF defense essentially scored twice on those.

My only question is this. What are the scores in the games we won if we don't get the defensive turnovers we have got. Turnovers are caused by defenses, regardless of how they occur. In'ts, fumbles, strips, drops, whatever they may be. Some guys can't handle the pressure. Some guys can't play fundamental football. Some guys force the issue. We can't say we gave a game away unless we admit other teams do the same.

Do you also like the kid leagues where everyone gets a trophy? :)

Coult back in the last days of Landry, the team was so boring I promised to try and watch the game like a coach or
someone interested in the mechanics of the game. I'm still not very knowledgeable truthfully but I look at the team
the way maybe the coach does. What was executed right ,what was not.Toward the end of the game if its tight
it doesn't mean I'm not excited but if we loss the game it doesn't mean I dont get the blues a little. What I don't
do is elaborate a lot of nonsense about the ownership and staff or lash out at stuff that happens.

This is a continuation of my childhood into old age and its for fun and games.

Temper what? Go into hiding and temper your own expectations. This is a good football team that is getting better and stronger each week. A team that others will not want to play.
