Tension between Red & Romo

garrett is the type of person who is out to make sure that he looks good in all situations tony was not done right about the qb situation in my mind last season but its over and done with so its time for him and the rest of us to move on

Instead of trying to treat T.O. like he did every other high profile FA that he ever brought in at various teams he coached....this was a different situation and required a different tact. If he would have just said to the effect 'I know Owens has been involved in a very volatile situation over the past year, but when he became available he was a player that *I* wanted on this team because I felt he would be a tremendous contributor to our offense and I excited to be coaching him.'

That would have taken the hysteria and cut it right down at the knees. Instead he tried to handle it like he always has and it was nothing but a headache for a year. And when Wade came along the next season and basically said what I stated...the hysteria was no more in 2007.

Unfortunately, Wade had no clue how to handle the Dallas media and by 2008 he allowed new hysterical nonsense on T.O. to start up.

i agree didnt see anything wrong with it. But i can see it in Garretts view too, and that pc wasnt needed. Just kinda came out weird.

Agree if true. I do not believe it to be though.
 
I guess if any of this were true, the next question would be "why on earth would Garrett or anyone have issue with that speech occurring?"

My only guesses (just throwing it out there) would be:
1) Garrett liked the possible fire it was lighting under Dak
2) by "conceding" Romo was making it harder for Garrett replace Dak if he felt the need later in the season
 
Sounds like more fake news. I seriously doubt Garrett would make up having conversations with Tony regarding this subject if they hadn't been speaking. He talked about their conversations in other interviews as well.



“We certainly want the best for him,” Garrett said, “whether he is here or whether he is somewhere else.”

Garrett also talked at length about his own decision to stick with Prescott once Romo recovered from fractures in his back.

“Well, it was a challenging situation for everybody,” Garrett said. “Tony and I talked about this. He said very eloquently in his press conference [Nov. 15] that it’s a meritocracy and Dak has earned this opportunity. In my visits with Tony after that, I said, ‘I agree with you, but I actually think you’ve misused the word meritocracy,’ because if you look at what he [Romo] has done in his last [21] starts as a Cowboy, won [16] games and lost five of them. So when he had his opportunities based on the merits, there’s a compelling argument to be made that that guy should be your quarterback.

1) I can get behind that view

2) I don't see it that way at all but more along the lines of "what did he(tony) know and when did he know it" ,like, your the backup now tony and no ,I'm not gonna allow you the chance to even compete for your job back because I feel we need to ride this streak and field the hot hand,,,, you know that had to come straight from Garrett's lips to Tony's ears way before he took preemptive action (jerry approved) and gave that presser.

(I've mentioned my views on Garrett harboring envy and feelings of inadequacy on a personal level over Romo's Superior capability compared to his)

Another article earlier said Tony and Jerry had a lengthy discussion about all options around the superbowl and that tony and red havent talked in "months"

Yeah. It'll be Jerry's call on if they trade, keep, or release Romo. Not really Garrett's unless it's indirect and tells Jones he doesn't want him in the team--which would be unlikely.
So the only pressing person Romo needed to talk to was Jerry.

But seriously, it's not something Romo does without approval from the organization, and that includes Jason Garrett.
 
I wAnna try....Garrett said he didn't agree with Romo's statement. Because "if you go by the merits" romo is now and was then the better QB. Romo makes the speech and completely gives the keys to dak the rest of the season. Garrett didn't like thyle fact that Romo went down so quietly...I feel like Romo should have really spoke his mind and said hey you know what *** that I want MY job back and MY team back that I gave everything for. Maybe garrett felt a certain way that Romo didn't wanna "fight" for his job back..

He could have accomplished the same thing with a simple answer to a reporters question without some grandiose press conference that put all the spotlight on him for 2-3 days. His stance was classy but the press conference was not. If it's true that Garrett didn't want him to do it, I feel this is the most likely reason. The spotlight belonged to the team, Dak, and Zeke. He didn't need to try and grab any of it.
 
as Stephen said in the end jerry will make the final decision and every one will move on

It wouldn't be a simple answer to one reporter's question. It would never end. It would be the topic of discussion even after every win and a brewing QB controversy after a loss. Romo explained his thought process completely and pretty much answered every primary question the media would ask.
 
Something is obviously up between them. They're not on their usual basketball bro travelling tour this offseason.

Romo attended the Mavs game last night with Zeke. They watched Dirk break the 30K point mark together. Reports are that Zeke did indeed wear a shirt.
