Terence Steele at RT again

I can't believe we are going to be paying him $18,125,000 for being one of the worst RT's in the NFL. Dude really had 1 good year (contract year) and Jerry Jones overpaid for him. With how bad our offensive line was last year I am very surprised we didn't attempt to address that in FA.
He played better down the stretch last season but I'm with you, we're paying a lot of money for a guy who's probably not better than average. He is the 11th highest paid RT which isn't terrible, but he probably should be closer to the 8-9 million a season range.

He always looks as dumbfounded as Dak most games. Heck by the time he gets off the snap his guy is usually in our backfield.
I didn't realize they were paying 18m......dam shocking head scratcher for sure.

Our thing is to see if the NEW coaching staff can get him to play better, we shall see. If we draft a OT high in the draft, that has to mean something for the left or right side, I don't think they're ready to give up on Guyton yet after having only 1 year in
One Cowboys employee I won't miss is freeze-dried Mike Solari, former offensive line coach of our team.

Supposedly, Riley's dilemma is getting the 2 best tackles out of Steele, Guyton and Richards.

If Steele genuinely wins his spot at RT that would leave Richards and Guyton competing for the LT spot.

Then I am of that minority which says take the best tackle on the team who's been playing guard and put him at LT. That's Tyler Smith.

This is why Riley gets the big bucks.
Hopefully he will improve the line by putting the best player in the best position for team success and scheme.
In Riley we trust.

OR draft another left tackle, lol.
Steele and Guyton are gonna start.

Money plays in the NFL.

Steele's talent as a pass protector may or may not ever match his ability to block for the run. With that said, he'll be observed in TC to determine if his pass protection has improved or not. Perhaps, if he's able to improve in pass protection, he'll be allowed to retain his spot at RT. We'll see about that.

Nevertheless, there will possibly be a candidate to show better talent in pass protection. If that's the case, a change might be considered. Here's hoping it's a need that eventually gets resolved.

I am pretty sure the Kansas State OL coach will turn Steelers into Erik Williams. I feel bad for the rest of the league.

I understand the frustration but let's accurately describe the situation.

  • He isn't the worst RT in the league
  • Pre Injury his lateral movement was marginal when facing the speedier rushers. So yes, any injury that takes away lateral movement really hurts his pass pro abilities.
  • He was a good young player when they gave him the contract. Agree or disagree with the specifics, he would have gotten similar contract from any team. Guys get hurt. Just a fact of life in the NFL. Doesn't make the contract bad.
  • He seemed to be playing better second half of the season. Let's see how this year shakes out.
  • If they truly plan to run it more, could play into his strengths.

Bingo...I'd love to see an upgrade at RT, but Steele is far from the biggest issue on this roster. Steele is a guy you can have a solid OL with. The issue is that most of the OL is suspect as well.

I have no idea how this is going to play out. But please give this new coaching staff a chance to work with these guys because they've been working under crap for the last few years.

good stuff.

It does feel like this is his last shot with us.

Ill take Doug free,

Who by the way was also a much criticized by our fan base, and really after he left it took forever to find another right tackle to even come close to him...

I'm not giving my seal of approval to Terence Steele, but somebody on the team thinks he improved last year, and I think his run blocking improved a lot which is also ironic as after Martin went out and put Hoffman next to him ,but his past protection still needs work..

SO, he may be ready to turn that corner after the injury that's what everyone's saying, and we realize your sarcasm you like to be the smarty pants of the group thinking he can't be fixed, but sometimes scheme and coaching can absolutely help a guy when he's just right on the edge of turning that corner...

You remember that time that the Dallas Cowboys gave up on Jimmy Smith because of his injuries and look what happened another team benefited also nobody likes that cornerback, Ward, that went to Kansas City on a trade everybody thinks was a mistake, but at the time he was just an undrafted rookie in training camp doing things we've seen lots of rookies do then not do it in a regular season..

but again another player we allowed to walk and maybe in this instance we want to make sure steel who's already been paid has a shock to make this team this year and keep his starting job Before we give up on him and then he goes somewhere else and plays better.

I should say from keeping the guy on the other side from turning his corner, boom drum roll , top hat!!! :muttley:

Jerry paid him based off a good year prior to his ACL injury

- What's surprising was Steele still mending from that very injury, when the Jones decide to resign a new deal, maybe in fear that he'll walk to another nfl team in FA.

- I didn't care for sorry Solari as OL coach, so who knows how much he added to the woes of an ACL recovering Steele.

- Apparently cowboys gonna gamble on one more deciding Steele before they are forced to make him a casualty cut.

- Best to have a Plan B in case Steele has his struggles again.(asim Richard's, etc)
Some thought Terrence gradually got better at seasons end.
Maybe the club saw it the same way and hope it continues into 2025 season.

They have used their limit of 2 June 1st designations for this season. 2nd season of Gallup and 1st season Martins!
admittedly i don't follow how all the logistics on that work. So Gallup unretiring and signing with Washington doesn't impact that? I guess I didn't realize retirements impacted June 1 designations

How would Gallup unretiring have anything to do with the signing bonus and guaranteed money Dallas gave him?
For Dallas to get any relief on that he would have had to been picked up on waivers, with that team assuming the rest of the contract. I can’t remember if he was waiver eligible!
Even if he hadn’t retired Dallas was still responsible for the dead cap because he wasn’t picked up on waivers by anyone so it was a completely different contract he signed with the Raiders!
