2013

Games with TDs -- 151 yards, 27 yards, 71 yards, 64 yards, 21 yards

2014

Games with TDs -- 50 yards, 32 yards, 77 yards, 71 yards, 18 yards, 52 yards, 92 yards, 38 yards

So, out of 13 career games in which he has scored a touchdown, he has had at least 50 yards in eight of them. Eight out of 13 is hardly "a couple of games."

2013

Length of TDs -- 82 yards, 15 yards, 9 yards, 60 yards, 21 yards

2014

Length of TDs -- 2 yards, 12 yards, 6 yards, 23 yards, 43 yards, 18 yards, 9 yards, 43 yards, 76 yards, 8 yards, 38 yards

Out of 16 career touchdowns, eight came outside of the red zone. In the past two years, he is tied for eighth in the NFL in TD catches from OUTSIDE the red zone. The only players ahead of him are Demaryius Thomas (12), Antonio Brown (12), DeSean Jackson (11), Dez Bryant (11), Jordy Nelson (10 ), A.J. Green (9) and T.Y. Hilton (9). He is tied with Josh Gordon and ahead of every other player in the NFL.

His six TD catches of at least 38 yards is tied for third in the NFL, behind only Jordy Nelson (9) and DeSean Jackson (8).

So claiming that all he does is catch cheap TDs in the red zone is completely erroneous and, frankly, utterly hilarious.

It's not completely erroneous. He just made the argument poorly. 38% is a significant portion and at least three of TWill's TD were on the clearout/rub play. Your opponent just tied it to the rest of the game performance which gave you a point to discredit and then try and pretend it invalidates the whole thing. That doesn't paint the whole picture but it certainly points to him being a very limited receiver which contributed to him pulling a disappearing act following the AZ game.

He sets up deep routes well and he is on the same page with Romo when the play breaks down or extends. His route running is still poor and his cuts lack explosion. This allows DBs to stay on him through cuts. He also does a very poor job fighting for the ball on contested catches. All of that becomes very clear on his execution of the comeback. His cut is weak allowing the db to comeback on his hip pocket, he does a poor job boxing out the defender despite his size and when the DB fights for the ball, he drops the ball. That last bit annoys me when he doesn't fight for the ball and it leads to interceptions.

I get that Beasley, Witten, and Dez are better targets so it doesn't matter too much but for a guy that plays 500 passing snaps running routes you can certainly improve that production. He needs to get better in year 3.

Well, you did a better Job at explaining and overall getting the point across.

Just like you said in another thread, :lmao: Now making lots of big plays is a negative.

Did you see him in the playoffs?

Our playoff run was touch and go for a while. If the Eagles didn't implode we might not go to the playoffs at all.

The fact that he disappears for stretches worry we. If you don't think that is a valid criticism of the player, by all means you're free to disagree, but I don't think that is in dispute.

He had 8 last year. 3 of them were on that play where two guys in the slot ran flags to clear out the inside and he ran a slant behind it. Another was a deep crosser where he sank between zones. At least 2 other were on post routes.

His game is limited. X needs to be able to run the comeback to make teams pay for rolling coverage to the strongside.

I never said it was a negative. I said that to give credit where credit was due and try to paint the whole picture as opposed to the sophist angle of only showing one side. He is good at setting up deep routes even if he is an inconsistent deep threat. He is a good run blocker and is becoming savvy sitting down on zones. He is not all bad by any stretch.

That being said it's not hard to gameplan him because you don't have to worry about him underneath unless his teammates clear out for him. He's a young player that needs to and can get better but if Dez goes out we are in deep doo doo. Briles WR are decidedly undeveloped coming out. Behind RB, WR is our top offensive need. Third or fourth overall.

DT, RB, S, WR

Just saying that he is young, practically free, makes big plays and can only get better with more experience.

Every single player can improve and can get beat out for a starting spot, but actually complaining and trying actively to replace TWill is ridiculous.

Hey I hope he proves me wrong. I hope game day I get called out. That means he actually improved.

I just don't see it bro. Just by his play style. We will see though.

I'm not going to say he never gets open but if he was 'good at getting wide open' that number of target should be significantly better.

I was being facetious because you were obviously exaggerating.

And if Williams' targets were significantly higher, other receivers' targets would be lower. Whose targets should Williams have taken?

Personally I don't think anything is wrong with him. I just think last season Cole Beasley and Jason Witten ended up being apart of the offense more towards late in the season.

Wasn't he injured last year..something about a broken finger..?

Something about he was working thru it?

Don't know otherwise.

I think towards the end of the year Romo stayed with throws to Dez, Jason and DeMarco to keep the chains moving.

Williams seems to be the middle to deep part of the receiving tree and Romo was clearing getting rid of the ball more to Beasley, also.

So I think it just developed that way as things happened.

Also, you have to think Linehan might have gotten dialed in on his play calling and it just may have not featured throws to his position.

We'll have to see.

If not..Devin Street should be ready to step up.

I'm not discounting his performance in the playoffs, I'm citing a concern in which he has disappeared completely from our offense not only once but twice in his two years here. That isn't the type of reliability that we're going to be looking for if we have to pass more this year.

If we had needed to pass more last year, he likely wouldn't have "disappeared" in a few games.

Look at Williams' stats in the six games when Romo attempted at least 30 passes -- 16 catches, 370 yards and four TDs, with at least two catches in every game and only one game with fewer than 50 yards. (We went 5-1 in those games.) Shall we extrapolate those stats over 16 games if Romo has to pass more than 30 times every week this season? That would be 43 catches for 987 yards and 11 touchdowns, an average of 23.0 yards per catch.

Yeah you are proving my point. Look at some of those yards. You see a couple of games where he has 30+ and not even 100+ I might add, and you get all excited.

I proved that your point has no basis in fact. So much so that you have to hide behind obvious lies.

Exaggerating what? I was using the figures you presented. We did pass the ball 500 times and he was the starting X. I cannot tell you specifically but then again begging the question is not an argument. It's not necessarily a zero sum game. We passed the ball over 500 times and according to STATS we only had 476 targets. We could start with those. I would also look at plays where Romo has to hold onto the ball for over 4 seconds. I would also look to weeks 10-15 where he pulled his disappearing act.

You also aren't arguing the technical difficulty he has with his cuts and physicality at the point of catch. They are readily apparent.
