Dak Prescott has been impressive through five games, but he might not be the best rookie in his own backfield.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott has mowed over defenders, blown past would-be tacklers and plowed through defenses like a brush hog going through an overgrown field.

Elliott is so good he has receivers admitting out loud that it is fun to block for him.

"Zeke is a monster, like a real-life monster," Cowboys receiver Terrance Williams said, via the Dallas Morning News. "Somebody to be that young and to come in here and run the ball like that, it makes me want to block because I know what he's going to do. He's going to finish or just like (Sunday), he can pop it.

"So whenever you have a guy like that, that makes blocking fun. You're not just going out there to block to just catch wind. Now you're going out there to block because you have a guy who can take over a game."

Elliott took over Sunday's romp over the Cincinnati Bengals, taking 15 carries for 134 rushing yards, two touchdowns and 8.9 yards per tote.

Behind a road-grading offensive line, the rookie runner has seen his yards per carry increase each week:

Week 1: 2.6
Week 2: 4.0
Week 3: 4.7
Week 4: 6.0
Week 5: 8.9

After a slow start to the season, Elliott has become a more patient runner, waiting for the hole to open, then blasting into the open field.

Zeke's 546 yards rushing are the fourth-most by a rookie through the first five games of the season. Each of the three players above him on the list won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors (Eric Dickerson, 645 yards; Adrian Peterson, 607 yards; Billy Sims, 560 yards).

There was no better player at #4 than Zeke. He was BPA and I am totally justified in my support for him months before the draft. I told everyone he was going to be the pick and yet most of you ridiculed me.
Hes obviously a great player, but people that didnt want a rb at 4(im in that group) arent being proven wrong by his success. And you arent being proven right.

If Dallas passed on him in your view how far would Zeke have dropped in the draft?

Zeke was not my 1st choice at #4 but I knew when Dallas pulled the trigger that Dallas was getting an awesome player who could help this team win.

He would've been taken by the Ravens

Im not real worried about where he would have dropped to. Im just pointing out that the argument in the post i quoted is empty, since the people that didnt want a rb thought that anyone could produce behind this line.

The draft is about getting the best player for your team. Hard to argue any other player at 4 would have had as big of an impact. And I wasn't so hot in taking him. I wanted a qb
But we got an elite RB at 4 and a qb in the 4th
4's was very good to us

I'm not claiming wrong or right. Again my pick was not Zeke at 4 all I can say is once the Cowboys made the pick I knew we had a hell of a player not just a RB but an all around RB with great speed and toughness. I also felt in my view he was the closest thing to a sure bet in terms of having success.

I agree on the sure bet of having success for sure. Never a doubt in my mind hed be an immediate candidate to go to the pro bowl. I guess i was just marvelling at the pathetic attempt at an "i told you so". I try not to look at the username when responding most of the time, but i should have in this case.

I know one thing the Cowboys could not afford a player to go bust with that #4 so for me it took a bit of sting out taking a RB. I'm very happy with what we have in Zeke.

It is real nice knowing they have a qb with or without romo...the need to go defense with that pick is now mitigated because the window isnt measured by the health of romo's back. If i would have known at the time that they would get a competent qb this offseason as well, i would not have been as against rb as i was.

I wanted Joey Bosa because of the need to help this defense, but after he was gone, I had no issues with Elliott. Of course, some fans have to choose sides so I saw plenty of ridicule for Zeke supporters and plenty for Ramsey supporters.

No one ridiculed my call, though, to select Dak Prescott with the fourth overall pick. (Of course, I didn't say it out loud.)

I wanted Carson Wentz. But Dak working out makes getting Zeke at #4 look like a stroke of genius. For the record...I think had we gotten Carson Wentz at #4 we would have been ok as well. Probably would have gone RB in the 2nd.
