Is Terrence Newman this teams version of DeIon Sanders?

He shuts down his side of the field ala DeIon

Seems to need more INTs? but they aint throwing his way... are they?

You are correct sir. There is not a corner in football playing better than Tnew. Should be All Pro.

I see where your coming from. He is playing great and I get very excited when I see him back on punt returns, but...

I just recently rewatched a couple games from the 95 season and Deion was absolutely electric. Even seeing it again all these years later, I would hold my breath every single time he had the ball in his hands. Like him or not, in his prime he was the most dynamic playmaker that I have ever seen.

Champ Bailey is having a monster season.

Not to take anything away from Newman, as he has proved that last year was just a sophomore slump and he is going to be great.

Newman was injured for the majority of last season. I hope people will get rid of the idea that he had a sophomore slump.

Bailey has a lot of picks, but he got abused by Terrell Owens and has allowed at least three touchdowns despite missing several games.

Add to your logic that he played wide receiver last game and the similarities are all there.

Sure he did. He had a sophomore slump... caused by injury.

And I quite like Newman being the next Newman.

Yeah, that and the fact that you cannot cover a WR for 5+ seconds while you have no pass rush... the WR will get open eventually(refering to last year)

What I like most about T-New is how far his tackling has come. I remember him basically dancing around a guy his rookie season, like he didn't know what to do. Now he chases guys down, makes wrap up tackles...I want to see him put a lick on somebody someday.

I'm just glad he isn't afraid to come up and make a tackle. The good thing is Newman's best days are still ahead of him. We got D.Sanders after a few years in the league.

This is just ridiculous!

When it come to Deion Sanders everybody is bashing on him.
"Is he the best CB to play the game?" No, because he wouldn'/couldn't tackle.
He has a questionable character because he is so selfish and he is no team player because of that.

And so on, bla bla bla....

Now TNEW learned how to walk straight without tripping over himself and everybody loves Deion and compares TNEW to Deion. That makes me mad! The only thing about the first post that calms me down a bit is that TNEW is compared to Deion and not vice versa ;).

Here are some points where TNEW has to get better:

  • First of all and IMO the biggest deficit he has as a CB, he doesn't look for the ball and he isn't able to catch. So he is no real threat for the offense. That was a real strenght Deion had.
  • Second everybody says he is a threat everytime he touches the ball. Deion was for sure. But TNEW? Sure he is fast as hell but i never saw him break a big play out of a int or when he returned a punt. He looks more like he is lost on the field. So to me he doesn't look like a threat. I can't even understand why everybody is calling his name when it comes to punt returns.
  • Third when Deion was in the game the Offense chanced it's gameplan and the Defense did too. I never read/heard or saw something alike about TNEW. So to me TNEW is a good player but he is no game changer. But game changers for sure are very rare. Deion was one, Joe Monatana was one too. I think Roy Williams is going to be one if Zimmy uses him right. But right now to me TNEW isn't.

So please don't compare TNEW to Deion. It's just ambarrassing for Deion and not fair to TNEW.

Deion in his prime is still the best cover corner I have seen play this game in the 40 some odd years of watching Pro football. Newman I consider a very good CB in his own right but not at the same level as Sanders

Sanders had no fear - that and his recovery skills were the thing that made him the player he was. If he bit on the out and they threw it , it was an int for a TD.

If he bit on the out and they pump faked, he had the speed and quickness to recover against almost anyone. His physical abilities as a CB were comparable to Sanders and Vicks abilities as a runner.

In essense there is no one who compares to Deion in that, that I have seen.

On punt returns though, Newman looks amazingly like Deion, the way he runs is almost eerily similar and I think he will break one for a TD before the season is over.
