Shaw wont be leaving for another college job.

He built a pro style college team and will leave for a Pro job.
Wouldn't surprise me if that happened this off-season.
He's been around pro football most of his life via his Dad.

He's a Garrett clone as a football lifer but one who hot head coaching experience on the college level.

I think Coach Shaw is & will be a much better coach than Jason could ever dream of being.

I would rank them in in this order in probabilty that they would accept the job if offered

1)Franklin and Strong
3) Briles
4 Fisher

All are good choices,imo.
btw, I'm with those who like Shaw. He's really impressive. But yeas, the NFL is probably his next stop, I would assume.

Shaw would be the one I'd be bugging night & day.

Maybe Mora. I still like Fitzgerald from Northwestern. I don't love Strong.

If anyone was sad Mack is leaving, just think of 2 or 3 more years of Trevor Knight, another Texas QB Mack didn't recruit.

If it's really true that Mora is the leading candidate for Texas, then this may be the greatest night in Sooner history.

Mora is not going to Texas. Look for Texas to announce their new coach on Monday though and again it's not Mora.

I doubt it's mora, I have a feeling Patterson is doing his do diligence/keeping donors happy by interviewing "their" guy. Don't be surprised if he interviews gruden at some point also. In the end, it will prob be briles, strong or fisher, hope its strong personally but would be ok with fisher

I thought Fisher & Briles said no to UT?

I guess no doesn't really mean no in this case.

Word is this morning that Horns are looking at Mora, UCLA.
Not as fond of that choice as I would be of Franklin or Strong.
The new AD probably knows him, since both are PAC-12. He is still young, and has had NFL experience, so that may be a major draw.

gee, this idea that Texas homers have that everyone in the world wants to be the coach seems somewhat mistaken.....

Jameis Winston: Fisher's 'my coach'
Associated Press
Updated: January 3, 2014, 2:05 PM ET

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Jameis Winston jokes with Jimbo Fisher about speculation the coach will leave Florida State for Texas and says if it happens he would want to go too.

He added, jokingly: "Even if Coach Fisher goes to Texas, I'm going to ask him, 'Can I go with you?' Yeah, I'm serious. He's my coach."

Not that I believe this would happen but I did find it amusing.

Inside info, jcollins?

Not really "inside info". I keep close tabs on the college side of things and have some pretty reliable sources of info that I tend to follow. Seems like there is a lot of smoke right now about Al Golden to Penn State and Strong is locked in at Texas.

Louisville coach Charlie Strong has not been formally offered the head coaching job at Texas but would accept it if he was, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Friday night.

Another source told McMurphy that Strong said he has not accepted the Texas job, but wants to talk to Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich and university president James Ramsey.

Horns247 reported earlier Friday that Strong would be Texas' next coach.

I would love to get Briles as the Horns coach. But I dont think Texas would publicly ask him because of the public rejection of the offer.

Yup it's looking good for Strong. Makes sense for both sides - obviously Strong is in a position to move on at Louisville and he is a realistic candidate for Texas and has more experience than James Franklin. I never saw anyone else leaving the good situations they were in to start over and try to "rebuild" Texas. Jimbo Fisher and Gus Malzahn are 1 win away from winning it all and having years of job security at big-time programs. I doubt they'd give that up to take on Texas, regardless of how much money Texas can pay them.

Then you look at Jim Mora Jr, David Shaw, and Art Briles. Yes Texas is the better destination but they all have good situations going on right now at their current teams. Mora and Shaw seem to be pretty intent on staying in the west coast too. With Strong though, I think he's done all he can do at Louisville, time to move on.
