Not really "inside info". I keep close tabs on the college side of things and have some pretty reliable sources of info that I tend to follow. Seems like there is a lot of smoke right now about Al Golden to Penn State and Strong is locked in at Texas.

Cool, looking like you got it. :)

Surprised at this. Interested to see what the UT fans think about it.

Yup it's looking good for Strong. Makes sense for both sides - obviously Strong is in a position to move on at Louisville and he is a realistic candidate for Texas and has more experience than James Franklin. I never saw anyone else leaving the good situations they were in to start over and try to "rebuild" Texas. Jimbo Fisher and Gus Malzahn are 1 win away from winning it all and having years of job security at big-time programs. I doubt they'd give that up to take on Texas, regardless of how much money Texas can pay them.

UT is a better job than Auburn or Fla State. Maybe much better. I wonder what happened to all the Fisher talk.

Yeah but it's not like Malzahn and Fisher are at UAB and Florida International. They've built contenders at two very good programs that can be forces long-term compared to programs that have limited ceilings like Louisville and Vanderbilt. Yes Texas is probably the best job in the country on paper and will have their pick of recruits in the state but when you're doing well at an Auburn/FSU, you'll still get top recruits to compete and you'll get rewarded with enough of a raise.

Hmm...Strong to UT. Not so sure about that hire, think they could have done better. I wonder if they fired Brown prematurely thinking they had Saban?

He is a good coach but I don't think it is a good fit for him, we shall see. This isn't the ACC, a weaker conference.

I LOVE this hire! I'm very excited I'm already trying to make plans to head down to Austin to watch a game next year or go to the cotton bowl for the RRR! Strong will be great!

Solid hire, he'll do well, gonna have to get himself an OC though because this is Big 12 football.

I don't know what type do personality he is but he looks like he takes no bull from anyone.

I guess Mack had kind of a "aw shucks" image. This guy looks the complete opposite.

Well, to be honest, I would have rather seen David Shaw (No Interest), O'Brian (No Chance), Jimbo Fisher (Lots of support from Boosters) but Strong is a good coach. He's just not my first choice.

He'll do fine. He's an excellent defensive coach but he also has experience on the offensive side of the ball. Bedford, his DC, is a former Longhorn so that will help him along the way. He will be a good hire.

David Shaw would be my first choice also. I would not mind seeing him coach the Cowboys either.

Not sure why you guys are so high on Shaw. He is a horrible in game coach. Seems to be a good recruiter, this is the last year of Harbaugh's kids so we will see. The games that Stanford lost this year can be traced back directly to Shaw's poor play calling. Most notably the Utah, SC and the Rose Bowl game are all on Shaw.

I'm really happy with the hire, this defense will be great in no time! Not too worried about the offense, we will be a power run team most likely. Get ready cuz I think 4 or 5 years from now you'll see texas defensive players drafted really high regularly!

Hook em horns!

Well that formula worked out pretty well for the crimson tide..... It's just not right seeing the longhorns being a middle of the PAC team. Time for them to return to the top. Hopefully strong will lead them there.

Coach Strong seems to be an upstanding man which I like. I'm reading he waited for a face to face with the Louisville AD to discuss him leaving and why.

He's got that leadership thing going on which those kids need.

Strong is actually the guy most similar to Saban.
Defensive guy, tough as nails, hates media stuff and glad handling people.

Will be interesting to see what he does on offense at UT.

Bet he doesn't sip any tea.

Changes narrative about UT football.

Mike Sherman might be a descent fit in Texas as the OC. He spent 8 years on and off at A&M and understands recruiting in that area. He recruited Johnny Football, Luke Joeckel, Jake Mathews, Cedric Ogbuehi, and DeMontrae Moore to name a few. His results have been hot and cold, but he'd bring a lot of experience to help a young defensive minded coach. Sherman's coaching tree came from Jackie Sherrill, RC Slocum, Terry Donahue, Mike Holmgren, Gary Kubiak, and Joe Philbin. He's served as a offensive line coach, a tight ends coach, a offensive coordinator, an assistant head coach, a head coach for both the NFL and NCAA, and a NFL GM.

If I were Texas, I might think about going after Mike Norvell. He's an excellent young OC and not a lot of people know about him yet. He has ties to Patterson so I think there could be a natural incentive there.
