Caught Steve Earle last Sunday here in Corpus, at a tiny joint downtown called House of Rock. My first time seeing him - he put on a great show! Alot of acoustic instruments and just enough electric guitar scattered throughout his set.

He also had The Mastersons as his opening act, and also as part of his band The Dukes. They are a husband & wife team based out of Austin I believe. They're pretty cool too.

Steve puts on a great show, seen him several times over the years. I used to be the bar mgr. at The Executive Surf Club there in downtown Corpus 20 yrs ago, we had a bunch of great acts go through there.

For those born and raised in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. The Bullhole Surfer's lead singer Gibby Haynes is the son of Jerry Haynes who was Kids TV show host "Mr. Peppermint" back in the day.

Gibby Haynes has done a lot of music with different artists. (and actors) Most people don't realize how much he has got around in the music scene. You should checkout his Wikipedia article.

Enjoy

The Surfers were pretty cool, definitely one of the iconic punk bands. I always wanted to see them back in the early days, but never had the chance.

Being a Corpus native, I figure any Texas music thread should include the queen!

I still remember the day we heard the news of her being shot. I remember the moment so vividly and being in my sixth grade classroom and classmates weeping. My mom picked me up early from school and several other parents did the same. Never did I think her popularity would reach the superstardom she reached posthumously.

I probably bought a beer (or two) from you back then lol.

And I agree - used to see alot of musicians come through the Surf Club. James McMurtry stands out for me the most.

Loved the surf club venue for its intimate setting! Remember seeing Eli Young Band, Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen play 10 years ago when I was in college play in front of not very many people.

Thank you, RatisBeast, for posting Selena. She was the first one I thought of when I read the thread title. I remember vividly her murder, too. I'm a little bit older than you I guess, I was holding my second child at the time. lol. But I remember it well. We watched live the crap with that "thing" that killed her. I was so mad at the cops for not letting it blow its head off. I was sick at my stomach that this graceful, talented, classy, and beautiful 23 year old woman, who was so important to us, had just had her life and her dreams stolen from her, by a greedy, short, fat, jealous b**. Anyway, I wanted to post Selena, the OP mentioned Tejano, so here is La Reina de Tejano.

Here is another Texas based group of guys. ZZ Top liked this song so much, they covered it recently. This is a chill and awesome song. RIP Fat Pat, another up and coming Star who was senselessly murdered just trying to make his music, and way too young to die. smdh. :(

Here's another great song from a Texas Born and Bred. Love this song! Cool voice, awesome accent. Who da bowss??:D

Very cool, I was there when we had that huge multiple draft beer system installed. First of its kind in Corpus, it was fun "researching" the beers we were gonna bring in on draft. James MCMurtry is awesome, kind of a serious guy but real nice. It was great getting a chance to meet and sometimes hang out with all the artists.

That was definitely one of the cool things about that place, you could see great acts in a small setting where in bigger towns you would be shoulder to shoulder. One night there was big T-Storm rolling through and we had Butch Hancock that night, shows went on rain or shine. Instead of putting him inside, he insisted on playing under the old tin roof, that thing leaked like a friggin' sieve. Butch couldn't plug in or mic up because of all the water, so he sat on top of one of the picnic tables and played totally acoustic. The few fans that braved the weather got a heck of a show, felt more like a camp out, Butch enjoyed it as well, he ended up playing almost two extra hours. Nights like that aren't good for business, but make for a memorable music night.

I can't express just how great a musician and overall great guy Butch Hancock is, a true Texas treasure
