I hope they do well, I'd like to see them do well, unfortunately I imagine they'll simply tank as the season goes on as they've been known to do.

They will be overtaken by the Angels, but I think they will break .500 this season. The pickup of Mike Maddox and Nolan's emphasis on the pitchers not being fat out of shape slobs will help them pitch longer and be less injury prone. Those two alone should add a few Ws to the win column.

The interior defense is looking better with Elvus at short and Young at 3rd. Our 3rd base defense is hideous last year. All four infielders I think defensive wise have the ability to be gold glovers. That too, should land a coupld of Ws. (Elvus has already saved at least one loss)

Millwood may pull the remainder of his hair out if he doesn't get some support come June.

We're almost half way trough May and they're not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs picture yet, that has to be considered improvement no matter how the season unfolds :laugh2:

Josh Hamilton back tonight for Det.

Love this quote:

The Rangers have 131 games left and Hamilton doesn't plan on missing any of them. He said he'll be in manager Ron Washington's office right away tomorrow night if he's not in the starting lineup.

"I'm done taking off," Hamilton said. "If Cal [Ripken] can play however many games he played in a row, I can play in 140 games. I just need to stop running into walls."

:bang2:

Hamilton goes yard to put the Rangers up 3-2. Welcome back, dude.:)

It a shame that the Rangers have such a hard time giving run support to the starting pitchers. I didn't finish the game last night as I was wiped out tired. I did stay up watching it till they blew the doors off in the 7th. Maybe I will crank up the MLB.tv here at work and listen to the last innings while I work. :)

Couple of thoughts about recent games.

Great extra innings comeback win last night!

Chris Davis:
Chris looks like he is starting to try and hit for contact at times. Before it was as if he was swinging for the fences every time. This is very good. He should strikeout less (even though he still gets fooled quite a bit), but he should be much more productive overall. The guys defense is top notch too. He got screwed twice in the last two games by the umps. (see below)

CJ Wilson:
This kid has the arm and the physical tools to be a very good pitcher. I think he lacks the mentality to be consistently a dominate pitcher. He suffers from what a lot of failed professional athletes suffer from. Mentally, he cannot handle the pressure. He cannot let mistakes go. He stresses out and you can see his body physically tighten up and it disrupts his mechanics.

Last night, he basically had what amounted to two errors and three wild pitches in two innings. (most of it in his first inning) Salty (who was known to have defensive deficiencies) was an all-star defensive catcher last night while CJ was pitching.

I think the Rangers should get him a psychologist. He has way to much talent to let his inability to control his mental state ruin his career.

Seattle series Umpires:
What is up with these guys? Their strike zone varies up to 5 inches. I saw them call balls that were two inches over the plate and call strikes that were out/inside three inches! The only thing I give them is that they were consistent with it, the team, pitcher, batter. It didn't matter, they were always all over the place.

Also, Chris Davis got screwed twice. Once they said he came off the base while catching a throw to first. He clearly didn't till well after the ball arrived. There is no way that mistake should have ever been called. The other was last night when he tagged the runner when he had to jump for the ball. Granted that would be harder to call than the foot off the bag, but I think he clearly tagged him on the back side of the shoulder

Rangers Hitting:
The Rangers are hitting, but whats with the horrible average with peple in scoring position. They have been stinking for the most part. The load the bases with no outs and get nothing. Get guys on second and third with one out and walk away with nothing. Guys on first and second and the next three guys proceed to pop or strikeout on the next 5 pitches. :bang2:

Ummm...the Rangers are 4th in the MLB in runs at 5.69/game. If that is having a hard time getting run support, they need to find a better pitching staff. :)

Good pts, all.

Re: CJ Wilson- the most intriguing personal figure on the team- he's a head case and I've been studying the guy since last yr as they tried him out the closer, the man. What's funny about his character is that he's has such outward cool confidence. But the guy melts like a snowflake on an Addsion sidewalk in August nearly every time. And it's unfortuante as he has maybe the best arm on the staff...oh well, maybe he'll get it together upastairs as he matures emotionally. I'd hoped Nolan would work with him and be able to produce better results than the pc.

BTW, gave up on them last night a bit early. I was shocked about the win. Sucks. They really have some heart this yr and can overcome some of their weaknesses with good coaching and maybe an addtion here and there. I wonder if another top teir starting pticher can be aquired if this deal looks real as the season moves along.

Obviously, you haven't been watching the starting pitching over the last 14ish games. The Rangers starters have been quite good lately. There is even an article on ESPN about the Rangers pitching of late.

  • Padilla: Two straight 1 hit games
  • Harrison: 19 straight scoreless innings
  • Millwood: Always pitches at least 7 innings and has been the Rangers best starting pitcher overall.
  • Feldman: As a starter, I believe he has a sub 3.00 ERA. (his prior relief appearances have been an issue)

The other starter is McCarthy. He is the only one that has been a bit questionable. Last night he pitched well overall, but did give up three HRs, but did finally reach seven innings pitched which is something he has been working on.

what a finish, this game makes up for the loss in chicago where milwood pitched a great game only to have that looney wilson blow it.

what a great win for the rangers and harrison.

bring on the angels, a thorn in the rangers side for the last 4 years.

Yeah his 8 inning gem last month in chicago, 4-0 and it becomes 6-4 without recording an out!!

These last two have made up for it. I need to get out there tomorrow night.

All I know is that Elvis Andrus may have the best range of any SS in the game, he's made some phenomenal plays against Seattle in the two series so far.
