Its a long time off so lets discuss the game here.

I think the key matchup in this game will be the Bama Dline vs the Texas Oline.

Bama's Dline is so much better than the Texas Oline and it may be where the game is decided

As good as Nebraskas defense is they have nothing on Alabamas.

Texas should run the ball early but that really doesn't fit Greg Davis's style but I think Balance will be the key for the Texas Offense.

Texas has a good defense as well but im a little worried about how their undersized front 7 will stop the physical run game of the Crimson Tide.

With that said Colt McCoy is magical and there is no team in the Nation better than Texas when it comes to playing the underdog role.

One intangible that bears mentioning is that Mack Brown teams tend to be very good in bowl games... seems that he can work up a pretty good game plan if you give him a few weeks to prep for you...

Cody isn't going to make all the plays in the backfield like Suh will but Cody can play the run as good or better than Suh.

But the Horns move the ball with their passing game...

I actually think the key to the game will be the Horns run defense against Mark Ingram... if they can control him (and they are currently the number one ranked rush defense in the nation), then the Horns win...

As always, turnovers are the wild card...

But when you talk about the big 12 you're looking at a conference that has been terrible on Defense.

And yet, Texas is 3rd in the NCAA in total defense, less than 10 yards behind Alabama... but when you look at yards per play, the Horns are first in the nation, at 3.82 yards per play...

And who leads the nation in run defense?? Why, that would be Texas... they've given up 808 yards rushing in 13 games, no other team has given up less than 950... they allow an average of less than 2 yards per carry (1.99)... the next best team (Central Florida) gives up 2.58 ypc...

And of course, Alabama's bread and butter is running the football...

Again, the key to the game will be the Horns' run defense against Mark Ingram, and the Tides' pass defense against the high-powered Horns' passing attack... whichever is more successful will win the game...

Remember also that the Horns led the nation in scoring by means other than offense... they've scored on 3 kickoff returns, 2 punt returns, 2 blocked punts, 3 interception returns and a safety...

The kickoff returns may prove to be a factor in this game, as Alabama ranks 117th in kickoff return defense, and gave up 2 kickoff returns for TDs... meanwhile, Texas ranks 4th in kickoff returns...

In games like this though balance is key.

Thats why the Texas Techs over the world can never get over the hump.

When you play teams with a lot of talent you cant be one demensional and expect to have success.

Especially against a defense like Bamas.

With that said though if there is any player in college football that could overcome being 1 demensional against Bama it would be Colt.

Dont get me wrong I think Texas has a really good defense.

Im just talking about the big 12 as a whole.

Usually Oklahoma, and Texas just have so much talent that they are the only teams that can put out a decent defense and even OU's defense has been extremely overrated until this year but they still had enough talent to make it a difference vs other big 12 teams who just had no talent on the defensive side of the ball.

With that said Texas secondary > Bama Secondary - Texas front 7 < Bama front 7

The worst thing that could happen for Alabama is Texas playing with a lead. Especially an early lead.

Make Alabama have to abandon the run and use the Texas speed to your advantage.

Based on What? The Big 12, as I clearly stated earlier, has 3 of the top 10 defenses in the nation.

Offensively, I think it's a real stretch to say that the defenses in the SEC are that much better. Offensively, only Florida and Arkansas put up numbers and really, only Florida scores. The offenses in the SEC are horrid to be honest. You can say it's because they all play such good defense but if that's the case, why can a team like Arkansas, who is not really all that great put up numbers and why does a team like Florida, who really is not all that great offensively also put up numbers?

Its really just my opinion but just watching the 2 conferences I can tell when teams just play bad defense.

I thought the big 12 was better in 2009 defensively than 2008 but that isn't saying much.

The 2008 Sooners aren't putting up all those big #'s in the SEC.

With that said I think the SEC is on a down year but the Big 12 is on an even worse down year and they aren't even the 2nd best conference this year like they were a year ago.

But screw all that. Texas is legit and thats all anyone needs to know.

Regardless of what conference the Horns play in they can match up talent with anyone and they play great team football.

In a complete defensive struggle, Colt is able to drive the Horns just barely into FG range in the closing seconds of the game. Lawrence kicks a 53 yd FG for the win and Championship.

At which point this diabetic does TERRIBLE things to his blood sugar with an as-yet unopened bottle of Patron anejo... I have vowed that I wouldn't crack that bottle (50 bucks a fifth, and that was a few years ago) until a) the Cowboys won the Super Bowl, or b) the Orioles won the World Series, or c) the Horns won another national championship-- either in football or baseball...

Here's hoping I have a coupla reasons to get into it in the not-too-distant future... I'm not talking about getting falling-down drunk, just a celebratory shot or two or three...

:D

Hunter to the rescue? :laugh2:

I'm all for it

'Bama's a hell of a good team, I'll certainly take a one point victory...

I'll be rooting for the Horns, of course, but I just can't call this one...

Does Colt get bailed out and 1 second get put back on the clock again? :D

Don't see how Texas does anything, but lose with their paper mache offensive line and lack of a running game. And this is coming from someone who kinda resents SEC football.

I'd say it's more a question of not getting home towned by the time keeper. ;)

I could just see a game where both teams can move the ball some, just enough to get into field goal range. And two good kickers..so plenty of field goals is possible.

From top to bottom I think that Bama simply has the better team and will win.
