Texas vs. UCLA

Not that surprised to see a large UCLA fanbase there tonight. There are thousands of transplants from California all over Texas. It's slowly starting to build like a New York-Florida type of thing.

nahhhh Florida's weather is better than NY's...Cali's is WAY better than Texas..

It's not the same...

As Catch was hinting, UT just doesn't have the talent this year.

OU doesn't, either. Nebraska is going to stomp the winner of the South.

And not that I like UCLA, but I love that offense. Pretty much the wishbone reborn. What did they run today, 90% of the time?

It certainly would be nice to play the games first, but....... *shrug*

Someone call OU and TX and say don't show up, it's been foreseen already.

This is what I don't get. Texas has a top 5 recruiting class every year. Oklahoma is usually right up there, too.

Don't be so sensitive. I think they'll probably still play it despite my post. ;)

What's up with OU? They looked so good against Fla St. But a lot of inconsistency around that one.

Honestly, with a different coach I'd probably like OU. I spend a lot of time in Oklahoma and like the area... I just can't stand Stoops.

And to Chief... Aren't they just young still? I don't know, I don't keep up with either. Looks to me like they may have more talent than most teams, but just not all the future NFLers like they have had.

I don't think its a talent issue at all. I think Texas has the talent, they just aren't putting it all together on the field.

Same w/ Oklahoma.

At least I respect Mack Brown's comments in the press conference. That's EXACTLY the type of accountability I want from Wade Phillips. Mack Brown admitted it was 100% on him because it's his job to get everyone on the team prepared, from the players to the coaches to the trainers.

LOL. Not to let Wade infect a college thread, but that's exactly what Wade does do -- but then people claim he doesn't hold any players accountable.

Back to the NCAA...

Im not really sure whats going on at Oklahoma. The corners are young and green and Quinton Carter gets caught out of position a LOT. The fundamentals arent there. The backers aren't making tackles and the DL isn't getting the rush like they used to.

Im no fan of Venerables and I also question Kevin Wilson the OC a lot w/ some of his play calling. Im just hoping Oklahoma can just hold on long enough for thing to start clicking. I just don't see a sense of urgency w/ this team.

They just have a lot of problems across the board. The OL is new. They can pass protect pretty good but they can't run block to save their lives.

Now I ALMOST don't feel so bad about UCLA romping over Houston last week....

almost. :(

Yeah, I thought they probably didn't like their OL too much when I heard they were rotating guys in.

I absolutely detest that offense they run. They should've kidnapped Troy Calhoun when he was in town. ;)

I think Texas has talented players on Offense but like Dallas they just have never established a rhythm.

I thought we finally saw Gilbert start to improvise more in this game and I liked what I saw.

Their O-line isn't that good and their running game is terrible.

But you can win with a team like Texas has if you protect the football which they didn't do.

I imagine next week we see a lot more of the Classic Spread Offense that Texas has ran in the past.

UT puts two field goals on the board, AT HOME, against a lowly UCLA team and you like what you saw from Gilbert?

You could see in all the games before the UCLA game that Texas was overrated this year. They lost way to much talent in the draft.

That said, you can see that TCU has lost a step too. :(

Texas dropped to 21 in the poll which is about where they should have started.

I figured it was going to be a down year for the Horns but I didn't think UCLA would beat them. Yuck.

I think Texas has some guys on offense who have talent but who have not taken the next step to become big playmakers. I expect Texas will have problems but I think these young guys will continue to grow and learn over the course of the season. Many of us Texas fans did not expect this Texas team to be great this season but I do think the talent in there but it is just very raw right now.

They played a real nice game against Tech. I missed most of the UCLA game but I know there were turnovers which will kill any team at any level.

They sure have some work to do.

And the next step would be stepping outside of the system and making plays.

Greg Davis isn't the greatest playcaller and the guys who have had the ultimate success with him have been guys who can improvise and buy time.

I think Gilbert was forced to get this mentality last week and I hope it carries over into this week.
